...emerges after the deadly private jet crash in Florida,
where the investigation stands tonight.
And caught on camera, a large fight
with dozens of teens in northern Virginia.
What we're learning about the large Halloween gathering.
Fox 5 News at 11 starts now.
The balance of power up for grabs with a number of tight races.
We're watching candidates across the country
and the president making that final pitch to voters.
Fox 5's Sydney Persing is live on Capitol Hill.
Just over 24 hours now until Election Day,
and all eyes, they are right here on Washington.
Will Republicans keep control of Congress,
or will Democrats get it back?
Early voting wrapped up Sunday in Washington,
and voters echoed what the polls predict.
Affordability is the issue driving voters.
It was important to come out today
because we're having a hard time making ends meet.
We've been having a hard time making ends meet just because...
Because...
Everything has exploded in price.
I'm a single parent, and it was really difficult
at one point to find a two-bedroom place that was affordable
because we didn't have two income generators.
With the balance of power in Congress on the line,
polls have widely favored Democrats to retake control of the House.
The Senate polling is less decisive.
There are a handful of very tight races in battleground states.
Some traditionally ruby-red districts won handily
by President Trump, now up for grabs.
Thank you. What a grab.
The president campaigned tonight in Iowa and Kansas,
reversing course after canceling those rallies earlier this week.
And as he got off Air Force One,
the president signaled he'll now make his closing pitch
of the midterms here at home at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Why are you holding the Reflecting Pool
on the last day of the campaign?
Just to show how beautiful it is.
It's been finished. It was vandalized badly.
We have cameras all over the place now for the vandals.
But we're going to be holding, I don't know,
we might hold it tomorrow or something.
The chances of a physical problem,
physical security problem at one of these stations, very, very slim.
Retired FBI agent Richard Kolko said voters should feel safe Tuesday
with a low likelihood of security issues at polling stations.
But with threats against the president and the government way up,
he noted, security in Washington Tuesday will no doubt.
Be very tight.
All the law enforcement entities, Capitol Police,
Park Police, Secret Service, they've
been operating at full speed for months now.
And they're going to continue because the
threats, unfortunately, aren't going to go
away.
This, by the way, is the most expensive election cycle on record,
even surpassing presidential
elections with more than $11 billion in ads.
Katie.
D.C. Councilmember Robert White says
he will officially resign tomorrow.
This will clear the way for him to serve
as the city's next delegate to Congress.
It also comes after a legal dispute over
whether he can hold both jobs at the same time
because an obscure federal law from 1970 says that a D.C. delegate
cannot hold another paid public office on the date of the election.
White tells Fox 5's On the Hill his interpretation of the law
was that he would have to step down on the day the votes get certified.
This was a law passed before the D.C. Council existed,
wasn't intended to apply to the D.C.
Council, and it speaks to the date of election,
which would be December 2nd.
So it wasn't something I expected on the general election day,
but I want to remove any doubt
or concern from residents, and so I'm going to resign on Monday.
White is expected to deliver remarks about
his resignation tomorrow afternoon outside
the Wilson Building.
The D.C. Democratic Party will select an interim replacement
who will serve until a special
election can be held.
And remember, we're going to have special election coverage
for you all day on Tuesday.
That special coverage begins at 7 p.m. on Fox 5 and Fox Local.
Turning now to weather with a live look
from our Fox 5 Skycam in Arlington overlooking the
monuments and a little bit of the water this evening.
Jennifer Delgado, our meteorologist,
is here now with a check on our forecast.
How are you feeling with that extra hour of sleep?
I actually feel better. You do?
But I think that, you know, parents are just starved and
will take it. Take anything you can get, right?
Especially coming off of Halloween and the kids
It's like hyped up on sugar.
Yes.
It was a win for parents.
All right, a win for you.
Now, if you are not a fan of the early sunsets,
you're really not going to like how things are going.
As we go into the rest of the month,
we're going to have those sunsets in the 4 o'clock hour.
Of course, it's going to get earlier and earlier,
and we won't get the 5 p.m. sunsets back until we get
into January the 5th.
So we've got a while to suffer with these early sunsets.
But what we know is we do have a warm-up on the way for this week.
We do have clouds around right now,
and they'll be out there tomorrow morning.
We checked the airports.
Guess what?
It is cloudy.
43 degrees right now out at BWI,
and then 53 degrees in D.C., Dulles, 49.
As we look at our temperatures,
we're in the 40s for a good chunk of the area,
including Frederick, as well as into Manassas and Culpeper.
But as we look at the temperatures,
they're running pretty close to where they were this time yesterday.
Now, we look at our satellite and our radar, we remain dry.
This big ridge that we have been talking about for the last 15 days,
it is blocking us from any rainfall.
Not just us, the Northeast,
as well as even into New England, some very light rainfall.
Right now, showing up across parts of West Virginia,
and if you're wondering if it's
going to be here in the morning,
it won't be because the air is just too dry.
That rainfall wouldn't make it over the mountains.
Very light, it will continue to weaken.
Now, as we look at our plan ahead,
we're going to start off with the clouds set in the morning,
and then as we go into the afternoon,
we'll see more sunshine returning.
Tomorrow afternoon, you're high of 66 degrees.
Just be patient.
The sunshine comes back.
And then, of course, Katie, we're going to take
a look at the election day forecast coming
up and rain chance.
in just a few minutes. All right.
Thanks, Jen. We'll check back in then.
A developing story out of Brambleton in Loudoun County.
Police break up a large Halloween
gathering overnight.
We're told dozens of teens were involved at some point. A fight erupts.
Officers showed up. People scrambled from the scene.
It's not clear whether any arrests were
made. We're working on reaching to police for any updates.
A man considered armed and dangerous
in Loudoun County has been located,
but it's still unclear whether he's
been arrested or taken into custody.
The sheriff's office confirming deputies found
a 30-year-old man and questioned him.
Fox 5's Regina Ureta has more with what we know tonight.
Well, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office
is searching for a man considered to be armed
and dangerous. He was last seen in Aldine near Conejo Way
and North Star Boulevard. That is very
close to John Champ High School.
Now, a short time ago, the Sheriff's Office posted on social media
saying that because of digital evidence,
it indicates that this suspect is no longer in the
county, but the investigation is far from over.
I want you to take a look at this picture. This is
the man that authorities have been searching for.
The Sheriff's Office identified him as a 30-year-old
Christian de Jesus Santiago.
We're tracking more top stories tonight,
starting in Prince George's County.
A man is dead after a shooting in Landover.
Police found the man inside a building on 75th Avenue.
This happened around 1 p.m. this afternoon.
Detectives still working on a motive and tracking down any suspects.
Police believe the man may have been targeted.
An 82-year-old man from Fairfax Station died
in a three-car crash in Burke.
Police say Daniel Luck Jr. made several lane changes.
...before striking a traffic pole, then causing a chain reaction.
This happened Saturday, shortly before 6
p.m. on Fairfax County Parkway and Berg Lake Road.
Detectives say speed was a factor, but ruling out alcohol.
No one else was hurt in the other car.
...
Terrifying moments after a private jet crashed in Florida,
killing all nine people on board.
Investigators say the Learjet 60 left from Austin,
Texas, and was headed to the Bahamas
when it went down in West Palm Beach.
New dash cam video emerging from the scene.
A warning, some people may consider this footage disturbing.
It shows the jet nosediving before bursting into flames upon impact.
The Associated Press reporting
that the pilots reported turbulence and weather issues
during the distress calls.
The National Weather Service said a flood watch is in effect until
Monday afternoon.
Right now, our priority is evacuating
the adjacent community right behind.
So we have about 600 people that we have
to make sure that they have a shelter tonight, food.
We've got the Red Cross in standby to make sure
that we provide just initial services for them.
So I think that's our worry right now, making sure
that those folks have somewhere to go to stay safe for the night.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says the FAA is sending
a team to the scene to support the NTSB's investigation.
Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy is receiving treatment
at Johns Hopkins after having a stroke.
His office says he started experiencing numbness
in his arm yesterday while at his son's hockey
game. The 53-year-old Democrat has
been on the road campaigning for other Dems before Election
Day. Senator Murphy was elected to the Senate in 2012.
His seat is not on the ballot this year.
Many insiders believe he could
be a potential 2028 presidential contender.
The Commanders putting pressure
on the Philadelphia Eagles over at Northwest Stadium.
Washington managing to claw away at Philly.
Fourth quarter still winding down.
Our Chad Ricardo joins us live in Landover.
Hey, Chad.
Hey, Chad.
Hey, Chad.
Hey, Chad.
Okay, I tell you,
Commanders.
The Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 19 to 10 right now
with just over three minutes remaining in this ball game.
These Washington Commanders fans, they have been spirited.
They have been excited all game long.
One of the biggest and baddest that are here, the Commanders,
after a tough start, they seem to have found their footing here today.
Absolutely.
Listen, we're back.
Listen, bye week.
We rested.
We're back.
Go from here.
All wins, undefeated, J.D. Favre is back,
J.D. Favre is back, you see it.
And to that point, we've seen a great showing by the defense today,
allowing a total of 10 points.
The Eagles may not have had all of their guys,
but still this commander's defense played strong.
Listen, bad season, but we beat the Eagles,
I hate the Eagles, forget the Eagles.
Forget the Eagles, we appreciate that, we appreciate that.
And now you, sir, we've seen Stefan D.
We've seen Nick Cross,
a few of the hometown young men who have come out here and made plays.
It feels like the Washington Commanders could use what looks like
is going to be a victory.
We've got more good things happening here at Northwest Stadium.
They could use this to elevate from the rest of the year.
Yeah, we could.
You know, we're missing Scary Terry,
but Diggs, he's going to be that guy for us.
He's really going to be that guy.
He's going to make a difference, and I promise you.
You watch JD5, it's Stephon Diggs, hometown,
and we're going to make a difference.
Well, there you go, Katie.
You see it here from Northwest Stadium.
This team coming into this ballgame, 1-4-1 on the season,
but with a great home team who is behind them,
this Washington Commanders team looking to close out this game
and get back on track.
Three minutes remaining.
We'll have more highlights for you coming up.
Katie?
All right.
Thanks, Chad.
Coming up, more drama in a battleground
state just days before the midterms,
plus a new resort set to open up in the Commonwealth.
What to expect with a ribbon-cutting just days away.
Police and protesters clash in Portugal,
demonstrators camping out in Lisbon,
taking a stand over housing costs and proposed measures.
Other European cities have seen similar
rallies, including Paris,
where tens of thousands of officers were deployed this weekend.
And the economy is center stage in that fight
for control of Congress. The number
is the numbers are a mixed picture.
The economy grew at 3.4 percent in the third quarter, but
Many people say they're still feeling the squeeze.
Inflation is still up.
Consumers are facing higher prices
at the gas pump and the grocery store.
But if the GOP loses the majority over the economy,
experts say Democrats will face immediate pressure to deliver results.
You could call it the affordability election,
you know, inflation, top of mind, you mentioned
those economic growth numbers and the inflation numbers.
It's a bit of a paradox.
You have high gas prices, high food prices,
in other words, high inflation, and yet you
have growth at the same time.
A few research group poll found 84%
of registered voters say the economy is very important to
their midterm vote.
Meantime, a stunning
and sudden endorsement in the Michigan Senate race.
Today, Democratic candidate Abdul Al-Sayed's former opponent, Haley
Stevens, announcing that she is backing the Republican Mike Rogers.
She recently called out Al-Sayed's position on Israel.
His campaign has asked Stevens now to stay away from a planned rally.
This tight Senate race is one of many that will determine
which party controls Congress.
Now let's turn to the weather with a live look
from our Fox 5 Sky Cam in Frederick this evening.
And Jennifer Delgado joins us now with one final check on the forecast.
And everybody is in need of a little bit more sleep,
even with that extra hour last night, right, Jen?
I miss my extra hour of sleep.
I do it every time.
The insomnia from getting off late always gets to you.
But what we're looking at tomorrow, Katie,
early sunrise happening at 6.36 a.m.
And as Katie was saying, people who go out walking and running,
they're really going to be happy.
We're going to talk about those early sunrise.
Our winds are going to be light in the
morning, and they're light right now.
We checked the airports.
Our temperatures are in the 50s and the 40s.
So we're cooling down out of Dulles,
43 degrees out of BWI, and then 53 degrees here in D.C.
As we look at our temperatures, we've got 40s all across parts
of these suburbs as well as areas to the north and south,
46 degrees in Fredericksburg, and then 44 in Martinsburg.
So tomorrow morning, you're going to see
those temperatures starting off in the 40s.
A couple degrees cooler than we were this morning.
And then we look ahead, unfortunately,
your satellite and your radar, we've got high pressure.
I mean, it has been so incredibly quiet.
Today we started off with the clouds and then that sunshine came back.
Tomorrow we'll start off with the clouds
and the sunshine will come back once again.
Some light rain down across parts of the southwest.
We widen up the view.
But that is where that rainfall is going to stay.
We will not see it making it over to the east.
It is just going to be too dry.
That rainfall wouldn't make it over the mountains.
High pressure is just too strong.
And it's going to block us.
By the way, today marks day 15 since we've had any rainfall.
And it looks like we're going to go all
the way through potentially late Wednesday and
Thursday before we see any rainfall.
So here's your plan or ahead for tonight into tomorrow.
40s around.
And then tomorrow afternoon, we should make it up to 66 degrees.
If we get that sunshine out there,
our winds will be from the south about 5 to 10 miles
per hour.
Now we look ahead and we look at our future cast
and we look at our European model.
This is a tomorrow.
High pressure.
It's shifting to the east.
Eventually, we're going to get our winds coming
in out of the south, and that's what's going
to warm us back up into the 70s.
Yeah, the 70s return Tuesday for Election Day.
It'll be around Wednesday and Thursday,
and then we look ahead, and we go into late Wednesday
and Thursday, rain ahead of a strong cold front.
We bring us a chance for wet weather to return.
We actually need it because things are pretty dusty outside,
and then we go into the end
of the week.
So there's Friday.
There's even into Saturday, and then we should dry.
things out by the time we head into your Sunday,
but we want to give you the very latest from the
Drought Monitor. This is from the report
from the U.S. Drought Monitor from last week. It's
shown mainly just abnormal,
and then a few spots to the north are moderate, but overall,
we're doing pretty good because we've had
so much rainfall that came down in September as well as
into October. Now, these are your lows for tonight,
40s around, 44 for Dulles, 48 in Quantico,
Keeping it very close to average for this time of the year.
Tomorrow afternoon, there's your high 66 in D.C.,
63 in Martinsburg, and then 61 in Leonardtown.
Your seven-day forecast, it looks good.
I tell you what, one thing I would suggest doing is getting out
this week and next week to see the fall foliage.
Here's your seven-day, 72 for a high on Election Day,
74 on Wednesday, partly sunny skies,
and then rain returns Thursday and Friday,
and then we cool things off behind that front, Katie,
with those temperatures returning to the 60s.
All right. Thanks, Jen. Go get some rest.
You too.
