While the 76ers are showing immense promise and dominance early in the season, the Eagles are struggling with underperforming stars and injuries. Meanwhile, the Flyers are hindered by a lack of elite, star-level talent to drive consistent success.
Well, listen, you know what's also nice?
It's those 76ers.
Now, I wouldn't normally start with Eagles talk,
but we all know what's going on over there.
So we're going to start talking about those 76ers first.
And you know who we got to bring in?
Mr. Tyrone.
He is here joining us.
And Tyrone, like I said, we want to start this off on some good vibes.
And so let's talk about those 76ers because they're hot right now.
Yeah, they are, and they're not even scratching
the surface of what they're going to be.
The entire NBA should be very concerned about
this Sixers team being 6-1,
despite the fact that the offense right now
is at level maybe 1 out of 100.
So, really good win last night.
They know how to ratchet it up late.
15-3 run to close the game.
They're down 7.
Just like that, they win by 5, and you're on to the next one.
It's very special early.
How about these wins, though, against the New York Knicks?
Because the last win was an NBA Cup championship.
And we saw last year the Knicks won the NBA Cup,
and then they went on to win the championship.
So, I mean, should we be fighting just
as hard to try to win this NBA Cup?
No, no, because imagine if you win that,
you don't win the championship.
Like, you only worry about the parade.
But along the way, it's good
to see how well they're already playing against established teams.
You see, the Knicks play a certain kind of way, which is...
Generally good, but it's a problem against the Sixers
because the Sixers have just another gear.
There's more under the hood of the Sixers car than everybody else.
And that includes the Knicks because
the Knicks really can only play one way.
So I'm not saying they're going to sweep them all season, although
they've already beat them twice in the first two weeks of the year.
But they're clearly better than the Knicks.
And we're going to find out along the way they're better than everybody
else, too, because they just have more horsepower as far as roster.
Of course, it's early on in the season,
but as we're talking about, they're looking really good.
Who's a player in particular that's really just,
you know, you know, really surprising?
Well, I don't want to say surprise, but Tyrese Maxey is the man.
Like, Tyrese Maxey is the guy.
And when you have a bunch of guys where you're not quite sure yet
where they want to play on offense especially,
that guy has the ball in his hands the most.
He never gets tired, and he just attacks nonstop.
In the fourth quarter, on the second of a back-to-back last night,
he had the freshest legs on the floor because he's that guy.
So I don't want to say surprise,
but Tyrese Maxey has taken another step in his development.
He doesn't care who else is on the squad.
He's going to go get his,
and other teams can't do a damn thing to stop it.
And also, V.J. Edgecombe being so clutch as a young player
is also just incredible to see that young backcourt.
All right, so now we got to jump on over to those Philadelphia Eagles.
Thank you very much.
That was kind of rough.
Not kind of.
It was rough versus the Dallas Cowboys.
But you get another NFC East team that they're playing today,
Sunday night matchup.
How are you liking their odds against the Washington Commanders?
Now, I know a lot of fans have checked out, okay, and what we saw.
It was horrible.
Okay, you mentioned it.
It was horrible against the Cowboys.
But if the defense shows up, they have a shot.
They have been decimated by injuries on the offensive side of the ball.
But they're relatively healthy.
I mean, the NFL is always injured.
But they're relatively healthy on the defensive side of the ball.
There's no excuse for the defense to not step up
and have a performance on Sunday Night Football.
And if they do, the Eagles can win.
The problem I'm having is...
Howie Roseman's high-priced defensive line
and some other guys that have been highly
touted like Cooper DeJean,
they're all having a bad season at the same time, and that cannot
happen.
Those guys who got their money
and Cooper DeJean have to be better tonight, and if they
are, they can win the game.
The fact that, yes, we've seen that, you know,
there's some folks that have kind of checked out on this Eagles team,
but you are talking about the NFC East and the NFC East is just
a shaky division. So, I mean, is it too early to give up on the birds?
Because, I mean, they can still make, I guess, a turnaround.
I mean, is it too early?
If they lose tonight, it's not.
They should have beat, if they had beaten Dallas,
it would have absolutely not been too early.
You still get to play the Giants twice,
so you don't worry about them.
But now you need help.
Before, if you beat Dallas,
you still got two games against the Giants,
you still control everything.
Now they're going to need help,
but I don't believe the Giants are great.
I know Dallas isn't any good,
and I know the Washington team that they're playing stinks.
But the problem is, perhaps the Eagles do too.
At some point, these players have to actually play well
and not just go by reputation.
And so far, their star players on the defensive side,
outside of Quinyon Mitchell, have been far more reputation
than player to this point.
All right, we're going to head on over, back over to Xfinity Mobile
because we've got to talk about the Flyers.
They're on a three-game losing skid.
What do you think is going on with the team right now?
This is the problem when you don't have a star.
We're talking about the Sixers who have so many stars.
Or the Eagles stars underperforming.
The Flyers don't have any star players.
And night to night, when you're trying
to do it collectively, it's cute.
It sounds very Philadelphia, but it's not real life.
Like when the Flyers have historically won.
Bobby Clark was a star.
He won an MVP.
Just because you see the pictures with him
not having teeth, you think, oh, he wasn't
great.
No, he was a great player.
Like the Flyers, to be great, you need great players.
The Flyers have good players.
They don't have any great players.
And you're seeing it night to night.
It's so hard for them to win
because they don't have that line or that player
they can rely on night to night.
And it's been...
Over a decade plus since they've had that,
and that's what you're seeing night to night.
They just don't have that top-flight star that can lift everybody else,
and that's been an issue for the Flyers
for a long time, and you're seeing it again.
A good collection of young players, a good coach, but nothing great,
and great is what you need.
Good is never going to be consistent enough.
Gotcha.
Tyrone, thank you very much for allowing us
to pick your brain as always.
We always love your takes.
We love your information that you bring forth.
Thank you very much, brother.
Thank you.
All right.
