One more time for your 2026 WNBA champions,
the Golden State Valkyries.
The celebration continues after last
night's magical Game 7 win at Chase Center.
The Golden State Valkyries are champs
in just their second season as a franchise.
This is KTVU Fox 2 News at 6.
And good evening, everyone.
I'm Mike Kneback.
It was a thrilling end to an incredible season for the Valkyries,
coming from behind to beat the Atlanta Dream 68-63
to become the 2026 WNBA champions.
Gabby Williams won the finals MVP.
She led the Valks with 30 points, 28 of those in the second half.
And with that, Williams set a finals record for most points
in a half in the WNBA finals.
Owner Joe Lacob, emotional,
celebrating with his team after the game during the trophy ceremony.
And now, a Valkyries victory parade is being planned
for later this week in the city by the bay.
For more on that parade, perhaps,
let's get right to KTVU's Zach Sauce, live tonight in San Francisco.
Zach?
Yeah, certainly a lot of excitement for that event.
They already have the banners hung here along the Embarcadero,
where the Vals will be featured Wednesday,
as you mentioned, with a championship parade.
It all starts, though, across the bay in Oakland's Jack London Square,
where a private celebration will be held for the team.
They're expected to then hop a ferry and arrive here in San Francisco
at the ferry building for the start of this historic parade around noon
that day, joining the team on the route.
Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie,
and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan.
They'll wind their way down the Embarcadero,
wrapping up a few blocks from Valhalla at King
and 2nd Street should be quite a spectacle
with fans lining the street congratulating the team
as you mentioned on their first WNBA championship
in just their second year in existence and fans
we spoke to, they can't wait.
I'm going to be there. I'm going to be there for sure.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm going to wear the merch, man.
That was a great game. Really great game.
Clutch shooting, three-pointers.
I think it was Gabby that hit those threes. It was awesome.
WNBA Finals most valuable player Gabby Williams will bang
the GSB drum along with SF Mayor Daniel Lurie to kick things off.
Wednesday should be quite the turnout.
Again, things kick off on Wednesday at noon here at the Ferry Building
with things expected to wrap up around 2 p.m. Mike?
It's going to be a big party Wednesday afternoon. Can't wait.
Zach, appreciate it. Thank you. And we will have live coverage.
of the Golden State Valkyries Championship Parade,
hosted by KTVU's Garcia Mikaelian and Bailey O'Carroll.
Coverage begins Wednesday morning, 10 o'clock,
right here on KTVU Fox 2
and on Fox Local, San Francisco, TikTok, and YouTube.
We're going to hear from the team
as they celebrate history in the making.
