Seattle Reign clinch NWSL playoff spot

It is decision day in the NWSL and the Seattle Reign FC could secure a playoff spot with a win at home. A loss or tie means Seattle needs help. Fox 13 sports anchor Lauren Helmreich has been at Lumen Field since the opening kick. Lauren. David, that's right, all 16 clubs in the NWSL took the pitch at the exact same time today to try and determine the final eight teams that make the playoffs. The Reign were one of three teams vying for the eighth and final postseason spot. And this game had a little extra Welsh flair. That is because veteran Jess Fishlock took the pitch for her final regular season game. She is the last inaugural player from the Seattle Reign squad when they opened the season 14 years ago. And all 14 seasons spent right here in Seattle. But just because it was her last regular season game, didn't mean it had to be her last game overall. That's because the Reign's path to the post season was simple, like you said, David, win and they are in. A well deserved standing ovation for Fishlock as she takes the pitch. She was an MVP, she is a three time shield winner and she had a chance to help this team push their spot into the post season. Jordan Bug though is the next generation for the Reign and she is the goal scorer in this one in the 68th minute. Off the corner kick a bug finds the back of the net. Seattle takes a one nothing lead and that is the final. Seattle makes it to the postseason up next for the Reign after celebrating all of what Fishlock has been able to accomplish is a quarterfinal matchup with the 2023 Shield winners, the Gotham FC. That game will take place on November 8th at 930 a.m. David, back to you.
