Jeffery Simmons Trade Makes Chicago Bears NFC Contenders

Meanwhile, one trade that did happen,
the best defensive tackle in the NFL and future
Hall of Famer, Jeffrey Simmons, is now a member of the Chicago Bears.
And I think, Joe, of all the trades that I've seen thus far,
this is the most impactful
one.
I don't know that he's going to completely change
the Bears' defense, but you talk about
a team all in, two first-round picks,
Simmons, the best player in his position.
Earlier in the week, I sort of equated it to 15 years ago.
It's almost like...
You know, a team getting Warren Sapp in the middle of the year,
a guy who's going to get sacks and stop the run.
I mean, Bears playing a little dangerous here,
but I think the Bears look at that NFC, Joe, and say, why not us?
It could be anybody in the NFC right now.
Yeah, we got a huge matchup this week, too,
or it's a test for them on the road against Seattle on Monday night.
That's going to be a must-see TV kind of game.
And I think you're looking at this, too, and you're saying,
look, the Bears' defense so far has been pretty mid.
The offense has been very exciting.
But the deficit for them is really the secondary.
Now, there's ways you can improve the secondary.
One of them is actually by improving up front, as you mentioned,
putting pressure on the quarterback, being able to be strong up front.
And I think that's obviously what Simmons does for you.
So that's a way of improving the deficit by getting a player
who is up there in the trenches.
And we all know when you get to these playoff games, especially,
you win and lose these games there in the trenches.
So this is a great move for the Bears.
I think they should be all in.
I don't think the Bears are done.
I think they will add some more help.
As well to that secondary, maybe specifically to the safety position.
But, you know, they lost year over year the turnovers that Byard
created, and that was a huge swing for the Bears.
Even though defense wasn't great,
it created so many turnovers,
so their plus-minus differential was so good.
So maybe Simmons and the pressure he can put up front
helps kind of reborn that or begin again
that opportunity for the Bears to be a little bit better
in the turnover ratio there.
But I'm dying to see what Caleb Williams can do
in this matchup this week against the Seahawks.
I think this is a real test.
The last test was against Minnesota,
but the weather was such a...
Such a factor in that game.
I don't know if you can take too much away from that.
So instead, I want to see what this one brings,
especially with Seattle coming off a huge game
where they just completely stopped
Ken Walker and the Chiefs last week.
