On this final weekend before the midterms,
there's a high-profile divide in the Democratic
Party. It stems from this controversial ad.
You're going to have to put those eggs back.
They don't like eggs anymore?
No, they like eggs, but we have to set that $7 aside
for killing Palestinians. What?
I mean, don't we give Israel $4 billion a year anyways? Yeah,
and now we're giving them another $26 billion.
You know how much?
So that ad is from a super PAC.
It's not from any political candidate.
It's been called anti-Semitic.
Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens,
who you see here, who calls herself a proud Zionist,
is calling on Senate nominee for the Democratic Party,
Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, to condemn it.
He has not.
In fact, he's firing back at Stevens, saying that she's, quote,
relitigating the campaign going back to the primary in August.
In August, El Sayed won a narrow victory over Stevens.
For the Senate nomination back in August,
it was a race where the outside spending of groups like
AIPAC became a major issue.
And it's a tough topic for El-Sayed to avoid just three days
before voters head to the polls.
He spent much of the day around Metro Detroit. Our Fox 2's
Camille Amiri is live at one of those events
in Sterling Heights. Camille.
Yeah, Dave. Well, during a press gaggle, he did condemn that ad.
He said he had nothing to do with that ad.
But he really did not want to talk about any rift between him
and Haley. He really wanted to talk about gas, groceries, health care,
the issues that matter to him and to his voters. But he did talk
a little bit about what was going on with him and Haley. Take a listen.
Do you want Haley Stevens to come to church with you tomorrow?
I've been very clear that I would rather
not distract from the key issues of this campaign.
And those are getting money out of politics,
putting money in your pocket, passing Medicare for all.
So what does that mean?
Again, I don't want any distractions.
It's not a yes or no answer?
It seems as though other folks are more interested
in making this race about things that it's not about.
So we're really focused on talking about Trump's agenda.
Why Mike Rogers seems to be, wants to be a rubber stamp for it?
We are out here having conversation after conversation.
I just really don't think any of this matters.
That's why I told you it's not really of relevance to Michigan voters.
Most people don't care about this.
Most people are worried right now about
who is going to bring down their prices.
Okay, so as far as this whole Haley Stevens goes, obviously,
you know, he beat her in the primary, and then now, the last minute,
they were going to come together on the campaign trail,
but now he's saying he doesn't want her to be there.
He said it's going to be a distraction.
He just wants to focus on beating Mike Rogers on Tuesday.
And one of the things he said to his supporters today is to,
he knows all of them have already voted.
He said, I want you to reach out to the 10 people
that you know that are least likely to vote
and tell them why you voted
and why it's important to you that they vote.
So really trying to get to those people
who just say that they don't care about politics.
And trust me, there are people out there
who do not vote during the primary
and do not even vote during the presidential election.
We always find these people the day after,
and I am always shocked that people just don't vote.
So that is the story for now.
We are live in Sterling Heights.
I'll send it back to you.
Yeah, Camille, so much for her.
I guess you could call this an October surprise.
Maybe there will be another one before Halloween is over.
Let me ask you this. You know,
you look at the timing of this and Congresswoman Stevens, her fiance,
came out just days ago against Abdul El-Sayed in talking to TMZ,
I believe, and that went viral. And now you have this situation.
So you really have to look at question the timing of all of this.
Yeah, and you know, it was one of the things, obviously,
a lot of national media here covering this race
and everybody wanted to ask these questions.
And Dr. El-Sayed basically said, look, flat out, he said,
the next reporter who asks me a question about Haley Stevens, he goes,
I'm leaving and I'm going to go talk to the voters about the issues
because that's, he says, what matters.
He said it's not a big deal.
He just wants to focus on his race.
And actually, today is his birthday, too.
So he said he's looking forward to spending some time
with his daughters later tonight.
But as far as him and Haley goes and her husband, I mean, you know,
we always see things like this happen when it comes to politics,
especially when it comes to races like this one in Michigan.
Yep, and the whole country watching, the whole world for that matter.
BBC was here last week talking about it.
All right, Fox News, Camila Miri live in Sterling Heights.
Thank you so much.
