Well, two Detroit police officers are recovering after
a suspect allegedly rammed them with a vehicle
before taking off. One suspect is in custody.
The driver still out there. Fox 2's Scott Wolchek
joins us live from the city's west side.
Scott, fill us in. What happened?
Hey, Jess. Yeah, you know what? Last night on this street here,
this is Wyoming right by Eaton over here on the west side.
Police, they had their commercial vehicle theft unit out there.
They had eyes on what they believe to be a stolen vehicle.
Happened last night around 1030.
Basically, they get the traffic stopped. More officers come in.
Everything's going swimmingly. It's all going fine.
And then that is when basically they say this suspect throws
the car into reverse. Boom, crashes into a patrol car.

We'll be right back.
Taking off, a person in that car got out and took off on foot.
Take a listen to the 10th Precinct over here.
How are your officers doing? Were they hurt?
Well, one officer was more injured than the other.
He was struck in the midsection by the front bumper of the vehicle.
Luckily, he was able to tumble out of the direction
and not physically run over by the car.
But he suffered some minor injuries.
And my other officer was grazed by the vehicle,
and he also suffered some minor injuries.
Obviously, it could have been so much worse in a scenario like this.
But as a commanding officer, when you hear something like this happens,
To your guys, what goes through your mind?
Safety. Safety for my officers, safety for the community,
and really, our officers
are out here every day putting their lives on the line.
It was terrible. You know people need
to be more conscientious of what they're doing.
That's a good one.
To hit a police officer is unacceptable.
We want to make sure our officers are safe doing their job.
If you've got any information, DPD are looking for a few tips.
If you could throw them their way,
give them a call or call Crime Stoppers.
I'm Scott Wolchek, live here on Detroit's West Side.
Jess, I'll send it back to you.
