Griffin Bears put 28-25-1 series lead on the line

Welcome to what many call the scariest night in high school football, Halloween Eve High Five Sports. And only two weeks to go in the regular season for high school football, now that is scary. But we're thinking more thriller than horror flick in our High Five Game of the Week. Let's go live to Lexi Bowden at LaGrange High School, where the visiting Griffin Bears are looking for a not-so-spooky win. Yeah, Justin, I'm already feeling the Halloween spirit tonight. A lot of the band for LaGrange wearing their costumes and a lot on the line for both teams. LaGrange and Griffin had a really storied rivalry in the 20th century. Griffin leading the all-time series 28-25-1. And I'm here with second-year head coach of the Griffin Bears, Bernard Goodrum. And just talking about the history between these two teams, if LaGrange wins tonight, they win the region title. And for you, a win would mean... mean to keep the region hopes alive. What do you think this game is going to come down to tonight with all that pressure on the line? Pressure is a privilege. So it's exciting for us to play this caliber of a game. That means that both teams have done their job previously. So for us it's going to come down to stopping the run and running the ball. They're very good at doing both and we're going to try to do the same thing tonight. And the second year for you as head coach, before you came here in 2025, four straight losing seasons for the Bears. Last year, your team record was 7-4. This year, you're 6-2. What can you say about the success the team has had since you've come here? My staff. I have a great admin. Ms. Duggs is amazing, allowing us to hire really good coaches. I've got a really good staff, really good kids. It's all going to do a great job. And let's quickly talk about your starting quarterback, 6'5", 230 pounds, KJ. Calvin Johnson, just tell me what you like about your quarterback and the success. What's the best he's had this year, too? Everything, man. The kid is just a kid who's always reliable. He's always there. He loves football. He's a He's a great leader for our football team. He trains on the weekend. He wants to be really, really good, and we're excited he's on our side. Awesome. Well, thanks so much, Coach. Best of luck tonight. We're going to have much more coming from our High Five Game of the Week at Calloway Stadium. For now, Lexi Bowden for Fox 5 Sports.
