Now both murder suspects accused of beating
a four-year-old until he died and beating his
five-year-old brother are now in the Fulton County Jail.
The details of the abuse are so gruesome
it's difficult to relay them.
Atlanta police have charged both Jasmine Smoke and Jasmine
Jenkins with murder, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children.
Fox 5's Angelique Proctor
has been following the story and has the latest.
Angelique, this is just really tough to hear about.
Really tough. Now, the suspects in this case were actually taking care
of these two brothers because their mother was in jail.
She had been arrested for shoplifting.
We learned earlier this week that several people in the boys' lives
thought they might be in trouble and were trying to get them help.
It came from a friend of mine who...
Reported to defects last year that the kids were being abused
when we discovered the abuse.
Destiny Acuna says mom Amanda Malone Walker,
her two boys, Kobe, now deceased, and Kayden,
now in Augusta Hospital, and murder suspect Jasmine Smoke,
all lived with her in the summer of 2025.
When they moved out of my house and they got in their own house,
that's when the abuse started.
The abuse towards Amanda, the abuse towards all the kids in the house.
The arrest warrants detailed unthinkable injuries
and called Kobe's wounds,
which include multiple blunt force injuries from the head to the legs
and a burn to the buttock,
abuse. The warrant
also indicates murder suspects Jasmine Jenkins and Jasmine Smoke
left four children at the Cardinal Drive
townhome Sunday evening to go out.
After Colby had suffered injuries and was presumably dead,
Atlanta police investigators
also located a DoorDash bag that Jenkins ordered.
Acuna says she and her friends were aware of the abuse,
and she claims several people
reached out to authorities.
The children's father called DFACS
because he was at my house two or three days prior
to me seeing Caden and the conditions that he was in.
When Caden got to me, I was there with my friend Jessica,
who made the report to DFACS.
Her sister made a report and
the child's father made a report.
When the report was made- When
were all these reports made
to DFACS?
They were made last year, I would say, September,
October, or November through December.
I know December, Jessica,
that was the last report that was made that I know of.
One of the arrest warrants says five-year-old Kayden was malnourished.
Acuna says suspect Jasmine Smoke made her aware of that, too.
Supposedly, he would wake up while everyone was asleep
and ransacked the kitchen because he was being starved.
So Jasmine would force abuse and trauma onto the kids
and punish him because he was so hungry.
Now we reached out to DFACS,
which is now the Department of Human Services, to get a
statement from them.
They shared with us that, quote,
we are devastated to hear of the loss of this little boy and
extend our deepest condolences to those who loved him.
We will fully cooperate
and partner with the law enforcement as they investigate this tragedy.
And we should also mention that the two women waived
their first court appearance in magistrate
court today here at the Fulton County Jail.
We are live in northwest Atlanta.
Angelique Proctor, Fox 5 News.
Yeah, the accusations against these children,
just really difficult to wrap your arms around.
Angelique, thanks.
