We want to hear from you.

Hashtag Fox 5 Lion.
Weigh on in.
Thank you so much for joining us.
Happy Halloween.
Happy Halloween.
One more spell.
Let's go.
Spell us to break.
Good night.
It is 7.30 on this Halloween Eve, Friday, October 30th.
That means it's time to find out if you like it or not.
Thank you so much to everyone out there
streaming with us here on Fox Local
or on Fox 5 DC's YouTube page.
I'm Ted Lasso.
You can just call me Coach, though, for the duration of this show.
Coming up tonight, why Halloween could be the new Valentine's Day.
And why it could work in your favor
if you are currently on dating apps.
Plus, whether or not sports bars are dead.
Then later, we're talking about the t-skirt takeover.
Not the t-shirt, the t-skirt.
So those are just some of the stories we
are talking about over the course of the next 30 minutes.
So let's talk about how you can weigh in on all of them and more.
And join us live in the Zoom room.
The easiest way, just by scanning one
of those two QR codes on the screen right now.
Either one of them should work.
The one in the bottom left-hand corner,
that's going to stay up for the full 30 minutes.
If you are watching us, a two-screen experience, you can...
Join the Zoom room on your phone.
Watch us on your connected TV.
If you are watching us on your phone or your tablet,
your mobile device, and you can't scan the QR code, that's all right.
You can just go to Zoom, type in the meeting ID, 892-0982-4674,
or you can go to my Instagram page, Fox 5 Producer Chris.
I have a link pinned to my bio.
It's right at the top.
One click, it'll bring you right in.
You can go to Fox 5 DC's Instagram page.
Same deal.
We have a broadcast channel.
It's called Do You Like It or Not?
A link to the Zoom room there as well.
We're streaming live on YouTube, like I mentioned,
and the comments section is open.
You can leave your...
Thoughts there or you can go to Fox 5 DC's TikTok page.
We've got a live stream coming
there as well and the comment section is open.
We'll say hello to everyone in the Zoom room
in costume or not. You're all welcome in just a minute.
First though we have to say hello to our
in-studio guest host and she
who must not be named is how I'm introducing her tonight or
Or in this case, we may be calling her Tom Ridley.
Or even just Lord Voldemort would work, I believe.
As long as he is not Harry Potter.
Yeah, I avoided that tonight.
But you also know her as our Friday BFF, Bisma.
Bisma, thanks so much for being here.
Thank you.
Are you a big Harry Potter fan?
Well, obviously not in this costume.
Oh, no, no.
We hate Harry.
Yes.
But, yes, we love Harry.
I'm a recent convert to the Harry Potter world.
Really?
Just recently?
Yeah, when I started dating my wife.
So that was actually five years ago now.
But admittedly, before that, I had never read a single one.
I had never seen a single movie.
And now I have read every single one.
And I have seen every single movie.
And I have been to Universal Studios to Harry Potter World.
Oh, my God.
Isn't it awesome?
It was amazing.
I want to go back now that I've read all
of the books and seen all of the movies.
Are you going out for Halloween?
You know what? I have to now.
Yeah, you do. Exactly.
Is there going to be a wardrobe change?
Yeah, so we're probably going
to do a little bit more dramatic of makeup.
I tried to do it, and it was horrible.
You sent me a picture today, and I wasn't sure if it was you,
and you had dressed up for another event early.
I was very close to that.
It was very close, and then it kind of started melting,
and I was like, we can't do this.
We're going to have to redo it.
All right. Well, you ready to dive in? Yes. Let's do it. Let's do it.
And first up, we're talking about good news for any fans of Halloween
who may or may not be single out there
because new data shows incorporating Halloween
into your dating app profile increases your chance of finding a boo.
Data from Hailey's dating app says 62% of women
and 79% of men said they were more likely to swipe
right on someone wearing a funny or sexy Halloween costume.
Hailey also found that more than 90% of
daters would actually love to go on a Halloween-themed date.
So, Bismuth, the idea of swiping
right on a Halloween boot, do you like this or not?
I mean, 100%. You can go to Markovs with them.
Like, I feel like that's such a cute date.
You get scared. You can latch onto them. It's like
Yeah, it's fun. I love Halloween.
If you can't be silly and just, you know, play around
a little bit like you're just not fun, then you're just not fun.
Yeah, we know one person who is fun and enjoys Halloween
and they appear to be a sparkly cat on this Halloween Eve.
Allison joining us now live. Allison, the idea of swiping right
on a dating app and finding your Halloween booty like this or not.
Well, Chris, tell Pepper I said.
And your cat, too, Bisma, tell them I said, oh, yes, but no, Chris,
I don't like this because sometimes I will say with my culture,
with the black people.
A lot of times we look at Halloween as the devil.
I don't.
That's for the judgmental, like, Christian black people.
But people will make assumptions because,
oh, this person likes Halloween.
The next thing you know, you missed out on a good person
because you didn't understand.
I've seen a lot of people, like,
disregard people because they like to do certain activities.
So I say get to know the person first.
Once you know them, then if you find out that's what they like,
it'll be even better for you.
Okay, so don't necessarily lead with, like,
the Halloween picture in the dating bio.
Chad and Laura in the Zoom room on this Halloween Eve,
thanks so much for joining us.
I see a skeleton shirt back there.
The idea of, like, include—oh, do I also see devil horns?
I do.
Yeah.
Speak of the devil.
A little scary.
Do you guys like the idea of including, you know,
a look like this on one of your dating apps, for example?
Well, we're both active on the dating apps.
Yeah, absolutely.
I definitely have.
No, we're not. We're not. No, you really are.
We don't want to give that impression.
And we're not we're not we're not those people.
No, I feel like Halloween, you're going to rot in hell.
That's all there is to it. Really.
If you hate Halloween, you're a person from the devil's mouth.
Yeah. If you hate Halloween, you're a terrible person.
You should just like just not participate in life.
Just go be a hermit.
Harsh, but fair, harsh, but fair.
The one thing that would give me like caution is if like
Halloween is the one night a year you let loose,
but then you lead with that on your profile and
it's nothing like what you're like the rest of the time.
I can see how it could potentially
give a false impression.
Wesley is in the zoom room on this Halloween Eve. Wesley appears to be
I'm going to be traveling currently, so...
Stay safe if you're driving, eyes on the road, two hands on the wheel.
But Wesley, do you like the idea of kind of including
your Halloween personality on a dating app?
I'm kind of with them.
Like, if this is your night to, well, was it you or them?
But I think it was you.
Like, if this is how you lead and this is your night to get crazy
and the rest of the time you're, you know, stale.
With Saltine, then no, I wouldn't really go with it.
I'm not really big into Halloween, but if my person was,
I could definitely kind of slide in and do it with them.
I am on the dating apps now.
I don't know if I told you that,
but I'm back out in the streets trying to find my person.
Yeah, I mean...
I am on the market, ladies, so.
But no, I wouldn't leave with it unless
that's my personality year-round.
All right, well, how would you feel about a couple's costume?
If you matched with someone, they said, let's go to a party,
I would love to do a couple's costume.
Is that a little aggressive too soon?
As long as it's the couple's costume where it's like Macaulay Culkin
and the bumblebee, if you get my reference.
Yeah, I do. I do. And that movie traumatized my entire generation.
So thank you, Jim.
Yeah, thank you. Quicksilver is in the Zoom room
on this Friday night Halloween with his silver
hair as well. Thank you, Rain King.
Do you like the idea of including your Halloween personality
in your dating app?
I mean, I would just, you know, you know me about dating apps.
Delete your dating app. Dress up in costume every day.
Go to Whole Foods and just run amok.
Dress up, paint yourself green
and get hulky with everybody in the grocery store.
Go to Whole Foods, bump into some carts.
Oh, my God. Can I say, may I slither in?
I'm
Do it, Jim.
starting
I'm sorry.
There it was. Yes, you deserve a symbol crash on that one.
Congratulations, sir. That was smooth.
Just like Quicksilver. All right. We're going to stay on
to
the idea of Halloween and romance and dating
speak
because some experts say Halloween is actually
turning into the new Valentine's Day.
Unlike Valentine's Day, though, Halloween comes with
now.
less pressure and more opportunities to have fun
and make connections. Plus, the excitement of a
good scare can actually heighten physical attraction.
That's what you were implying a
little earlier, thanks to that racing heart
and adrenaline rush. But beyond attraction,
Halloween can also help you figure out if you're compatible.
Giving you a chance to see each other's sense of humor,
shared interests, and personalities.
And if you're single, experts suggest
attending events that you genuinely enjoy
and using costumes or favorite candy as conversation starters.
So, making Halloween a more romantic holiday.
Do you like that idea?
Oh, I love it.
Let's watch the scariest movies, like The Exorcist, this and that.
Let's go to Markov's, like I said.
Let's do all of them.
Let's paint pumpkins.
Oh, my God.
All of it is so fun.
I just wish it was longer.
OK, so you so like this is actually this is a less ideal year
because since there's a it's on a Saturday
and you have the Friday night before for some people,
it might feel weird to hold like a Halloween party the week before.
Yeah. So like this, this admittedly
is an odd year. Yeah. In that sense.
Now, going back to kind of combine these two stories,
if you do have like a Halloween costume on your dating profile
or if you go out to celebrate Halloween with someone new.
You can tell a lot about that person's, like,
sense of humor based on the Halloween costume that they wear.
If you've ever seen any of the memes about,
like, what do you mean it's gay Halloween?
And it's, like, a really niche meme or, like,
one picture that went incredibly viral.
Like, you can tell just, like, someone's sense of humor,
whether you like that or you don't.
Allison, the idea of making Halloween a more romantic holiday,
do you like this or not?
It's original, Chris.
It's something different.
And especially because to me, fall is a very romantic time of year.
So anything you do outside with like leaves
and fire and bonfires and, you know, just
smelling the crisp air.
I think that could be very romantic.
I agree wholeheartedly.
And that's spoken as an October baby.
Melissa in the Zoom room on this Friday night.
Melissa, do you like the idea of turning Halloween
into a more romantic holiday than just necessarily a scary one?
No, I do not.
No, I don't like scary movies.
I didn't grow up watching them.
I don't need a scary movie for a man.
I hope we and, you know, if I want to get dressed up,
I got plenty of outfits that I can dress up.
And, and any day of the year.
So no, I don't, I don't like this. It's a hell no for me.
It's a hell no for Malika. It's not romantic.
Katalea, Katalea is in the Zoom room on this Halloween Eve. Katalea,
are you a fan of Halloween? Are you a fan of dressing up?
Oh, I'm a huge fan of dressing up. In fact, at work,
we had to dress up today in order to leave work early.
Oh, I like that.
Love that.
I love what you dress up as.
The live-action version.
Oh, very nice. Very nice.
Well, in the presence of our majesty,
do you like the idea of making Halloween more of a romantic holiday?
No, not as a romantic holiday.
Like, okay, I understand
if you're meeting someone to hook up with them,
because let's just say the costumes out here nowadays,
they're getting skimpier and skimpier.
And it's not saying romance.
It is saying you want to meet me in the back of my Chevy.
So, but no, I don't like it.
Well, Bisma went the opposite route.
She went head to toe, full cover.
I appreciate it.
And we actually did do a story about how there's
been a backlash this year
to the sexy version of everything.
I haven't seen any really great, ridiculous, sexy anything this year.
I should have been a sexy Voldemort.
A sexy Voldemort, exactly.
Billy's in the Zoom room on this Friday night, this Halloween Eve.
Billy, do you like the idea of making Halloween a romantic holiday?
I got to go with the beers.
Nobody beats the beers.
That's a good idea, beers,
for you to do some different type of activities on a date.
You know what I'm saying?
Like you say, carve the pumpkin, do a little, you know.
That's a very good idea.
I think I'm going to try that.
All right.
Well, Halloween is Saturday.
On Sunday night, we've got the commanders taking on the Eagles.
A lot of people may watch at home.
A lot of people may want to go out and watch at a bar.
Cheer on the Burgundy and Gold,
but they may not be going to a traditional sports bar anymore
because the sports bar is dead.
You'll see the headline right there,
at least according to one sports host and content creator.
Jessica Black says the traditional sports bar
is being replaced with a more upscale experience.
She says the game is still the main event,
but everything around it is changing.
She says people aren't just paying to watch the game,
they're paying for the experience around it.
And more bars and restaurants are elevating everything
from the food to the drinks to the game-watching experience
to make it worth people's while.
She also says the smartest ones aren't just catering the men.
Some upscale sports bars have even added their own suites,
turning a premium viewing experience that's normally reserved
for a stadium into that upscale night out.
So, Bismuth, the idea of sports bars changing
the game on us, do you like this or not?
Absolutely.
I'm about anything upscale.
Right. So, yeah, let's do it up.
And also the ladies are going to come out, even if they don't want
to watch basketball or football or whatever it is.
If it's a vibe, if it's a vibe,
so if it's a vibe, the people will come out.
It's good for business. I agree with that entirely.
Melissa in the Zoom room, Melissa, the sports fan,
Melissa, the idea of the traditional sports bar,
the ones with the sticky floors
and the crappy food and the small TVs dying out
and being replaced with these more upscale sorts of sports bars.
Do you like this or not?
So I do not like this because with anything that is upgraded,
people are going to raise the prices bad enough
that we can hardly afford to hang out.
I love my dive bars.
I like the sticky floors and the little, you know, hole in the walls
with the bar foods and to watch games, you know, with the locals.
But to upscale everything, no,
leave that to the rich neighborhoods where all the other, you know,
upscale folks that make one hundred thousand plus can afford it.
I love my dive bar, sticky floors,
local people, good food, and cheap drinks.
Yeah.
Ooh.
I'm with you with the dive bar.
Yeah.
Cool.
I love myself a good dive bar.
And I do have a pretty strict rule that if the night out watching
the game at a bar ends up costing more than it would to go
to the game itself, then I've done it completely wrong.
And I've had those sorts of nights, I'll be honest with you.
Chad and Laura in the Zoom room.
Chad and Laura, the Upscale Sports Bar.
Do you like this or not?
I mean, what could possibly be more upscale than Chad
and I staying home in our awesomely decorated apartment watching sports
on our big screen TV with drinks that Chad got at Total Wine
or the local beverage mart?
I mean, come on.
You can't beat that.
You can't beat it.
Also, I thought we were all not drinking.
People weren't drinking anymore.
I thought it was too poor to go out.
Now we're doing an upscale sports bar.
This sounds like it's going to close in six months.
Don't worry about it.
This is a non-starter.
There is no upscale sports bar.
Nobody wants that except for Bisma.
I know, go there.
So I will say, you know,
some of the ones that were highlighted in this post were in
like New York and L.A. and like there's
a lot of things that are tested there.
I will just say that.
Yeah.
Possibly in Vegas as well.
And we know one person who loves to spend some time in Vegas
and that is our resident
Quicksilver.
Pinky Ring King, do you like the idea?
You like everything upscale.
Oh, for sure.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Really?
Oh, my God.
Let's make this quick.
But, I'm just kidding.
But, yeah, I do.
Actually, I love it.
I'm all for Team Bismarck, upscale.
But I don't watch, like, TV,
so it'd be the best way for me to get out
and maybe hover towards the television.
Maybe be, you know, a big seafood tower
while you're watching a halftime show.
That sounds wonderful, actually.
And, you know, you've got to treat yourself well
because you're watching millionaires
play football and basketball.
So you got to, like, embody that while you're watching them.
So it's like the Hunger Games, baby.
Maybe.
You got to make it.
You got to make it.
You got to treat yourself.
Forget the game for a second.
Treat yourself, baby.
All right.
That's a good rule of thumb as well.
Catalina, some of these bars and restaurants are even adding,
like, theater-level screens and seating just for sporting events.
Do you like this or not?
Okay, so I got to agree with Pinky Rinking.
I love an upscale bar or upscale lounge.
I love it.
You know, I had to change into my gown.
You know, my fairy godmother came.
But as far as doing it, like, on an everyday basis, no.
Like, if I want, look, if I want to meet me a commander, I'm good.
But no.
Now.
Yeah, and I think that's key.
Like, that sounds great for, like, the occasional Saturday night.
If I'm going to a bar on a Tuesday night to watch a game,
that's not where I'm going.
I'm going to the place with the sticky floor and the cheap drinks.
All right. A lot of debate online about exercise equipment,
a story tailor-made. I saw Chad,
his ears and horns perked up immediately.
Gym goers are calling out high-end fitness studios
for handing clients disinfectant wipes
to clean sweaty equipment between classes.
This was specifically targeted at a Pilates class.
Studios say wiping down is good etiquette,
but business shouldn't luxury service include
a little cleaning service as well?
Well, okay.
They can have the cleaning service,
but why is it a big deal if we're wiping down things?
If you're sweating on the equipment,
why would you not wipe it down when you're done?
I don't feel like, I just feel better doing that, right?
Like, I go to SolidCore,
and they hand you a wipe every time you're done, and it's like,
okay, wipe it down, okay, bye.
It feels like...
It feels nice because you want the person before you using it
to do the same. Right. And so this
is sort of like a pay it forward honor system type of a thing.
Chad, you're in the fitness
industry. The idea of having clients wipe down their own stuff.
I think what's being missed here
is that most places still do have cleaning crews come
in and work throughout the day. It's just
when you're done and you have just sweat on that equipment,
just clean up after yourself. Yeah.
I think I'm misreading this.
I work at the St. James in Bethesda,
and we're kind of a high-end gym.
We do have an amazing cleaning staff.
They do clean after every single class,
but I can't imagine using a piece of equipment
and then leaving and having somebody clean this for me.
Yeah, I mean, I'm sweaty,
so I usually have to clean things
because I'm embarrassed that I would leave sweat behind.
Are people not embarrassed?
Do people not have shame?
Yeah, I've worked in that.
I mean, this is not an issue.
Everybody's really actually pretty respectful.
Except one guy.
That takes his class. He was disgusting and sweats everywhere.
Interesting. Now, going back to that point.
Yes, you're right. Shame needs to be brought back. And
I have said that before on this show.
Melissa, also in the fitness industry, is it really too
much to ask for people to just wipe down
the equipment when they're done?
First of all, shout out to the LA Fitness cleaning crew,
every LA Fitness that I go
to. These people are always busting
their behinds to clean up after these nasty ass
members that come in and don't clean up after themselves.
You want high pricey places to go and work out,
then you'll pay the price for somebody to come
and clean up after you. But it's only fair.
Me personally, when I finished teaching a group
fitness class, I personally grabbed a bag of wipes
and I hand out five or six wipes to each
member so they can wipe off the equipment.
They even wipe the floor or the mats or whatever the
The case may be, but be responsible for your own bodily fluids.
I wouldn't want somebody to come and clean after me.
Like, Laura, I do sweat a lot,
and I refuse to have somebody come and clean after me.
I'm going to take that responsibility and clean after myself.
But if you want a high-end gym where you want people to come after you
with a dustpan and wipes and a mat,
then you go play those high prices and go to an upscale gym.
Or, yeah, I mean, or have them come to your place
and just have your own equipment there.
If you're using shared stuff,
Have some courtesy for the next person.
Keep the comments coming on all the stories we've talked about so far.
Coming up next, we're talking about the T-skirt takeover.
The T-skirt takeover.
We'll be right back.
Do
you
like
it
or
not
on
this
Halloween
Eve
alongside
Tom
Ridley,
a.k.a. Voldemort, a.k.a. She Who Shall Not Be Named?
Coach Lasso as well.
Shout out to West Virginia Ben in our TikTok chat
who says he likes upscale, but his wallet does not.
All right, just a reminder,
we do want to see your Halloween costumes, though.
Send them to us via our Instashare.
You can go on to our website, box5dc.com.
Just click on the right-hand side, find it.
Send your pictures, send your kids pictures, send your pet pictures.
We also, we've got some new costumes in the Zoom room.
We'll show off here in just a second.
All right, next up, Halloween, just a day away.
If you don't have a costume yet,
you're obviously running out of time.
But the question we want to know is,
is it okay to reuse a costume?
For example, I have worn this one for about four years straight.
It works.
And Ted Lasso just came out again, so it seemed relevant again.
But environmentalists support this approach,
saying most costumes are fast fashion, made
cheaply from plastic materials.
The EPA said back in 2018,
Americans discarded about 11.3 million tons in textiles.
So many people could re-wear the same costume,
including I do it once each year.
But if you have four Halloween parties in one month,
is it OK to re-wear the same costume?
Well, now you make me feel bad because the environmentalists are...
Or are you doing a different one?
Are you going full Kim Kardashian and doing a different one every time?
Yeah, every day is a different fashion show.
I know the pinky ring king will agree to this.
But yeah, but the environmentalists now, like, obviously feel bad.
But yes, come on.
We got to switch it up here and there.
We do.
Yeah.
All right.
Walter White has joined us in the Zoom room on this Halloween Eve.
Walter White, are you wearing
the same Halloween costume more than once?
Yes, I wore this a couple of years ago, Jesse,
and I'm good with it because I'm not buying
another one.
I don't celebrate Halloween like that.
So yeah, and it won't stick because I lost the sticky stuff on it.
So because you had worn it more than once,
because you just have all of this.
Did you have all of this just in your closet?
I did. I had it. I had the hat, the glasses,
this apron is like my actual cooking apron.
So, yeah, and this used to have sticky on it,
but it's unsticky, so I can't find duct tape.
So we're just going to improvise.
Damn it, John.
That was quick.
Sparkly Catwoman, I feel like you have a new costume every single time.
I keep costumes. I collect them.
I keep different pieces where I can make up something else.
Like this was a last minute plan. I didn't even.
I didn't plan on dressing up at all.
It was just like a last minute thing
and collecting things around the house.
So yeah, you can definitely reuse them
and you can repurpose.
You can share with a family member.
Maybe somebody wants to be part of what you were last year.
So share them and repurpose.
Yeah, that's a great plan.
You can also shop at thrift stores
and find all the things that you need all the time.
Who else we got?
Chad and Laura, do you guys re-wear costumes?
I just got third place in a costume contest wearing
a costume that I first wore in 2020.
So, yeah, I'm all for it.
We went through Clive.
What was it?
It was Tina.
She was Tina from Bob's Burgers
because she looks just like Tina from Bob's Burgers.
Yeah, when I put on the costume, yeah.
Did you hit on with one of these
like shaking moves as well from the GIF?
That's literally the only thing I know about Tina
solely from that GIF
and that my friends send me all the time.
Pinky Rain King, have you worn Quicksilver before
or is this a first time?
Oh, it's a first time.
And Chris, you have inspired me.
And I think next year,
I will be a naughty producer, Chris.
Bring it on.
That's just the normal producer, Chris.
Yes.
A very, very, very naughty producer, Chris.
You know how you wear a blazer
and like three of your buttons are missing from your dresser?
Yeah, just ditch the shirt entirely.
Ditch the shirt entirely.
Just the blazer.
Trust me, if I could, I would.
Just the blazer.
Do it, Chris.
Do it for all of us.
I got to do a few more reps in the gym first.
A few more reps in the gym first, maybe.
All right, we got to get this one in because I teased it.
Speaking of fashion, the New York Times style section wants to know
if you have seen the T-skirt.
And you have, all of you have,
because I am basically rocking it right now.
It's not a t-shirt.
This is when the shirt you wear under a sweater,
sweatshirt, or jacket peeks out a little.
Fashion reporter Jacob Gallagher says they have seen
a styling trick over and over again
in campaign shoots, fall lookbooks,
for brands like Madewell, Corridor, and even Nike.
They say it's a simple way
to make something basic appear a little spicier,
or in the Pinky Ring Kings case, naughtier.
Bisma, the t-skirt.
Showing a little, showing a little.
Do you like it or not?
It's stupid.
What a dumb branding for an untucked shirt.
I'm sorry, this is not cute.
This isn't doing it for me.
Allison, the t-skirt.
Do you like this or not?
The picture that you showed of the gentleman, I don't like it.
It looks sloppy and not put together.
But the way that you have it, Chris, it looks very swaggy.

That's right. Long-sleeve shirts under
short-sleeve shirts under long-sleeve shirts.
