Winnipegger's unlucky fall into hole inspires creative Halloween costume
Oct 30, 2026
It's so nice to meet you.
A joyful meeting.
Like sisters.
We could be twins.
All thanks to this unlucky fall.
You might remember stories
about Christine Kielbach
being rescued after falling
through the ground.
It happened this spring, not far from her
Wolseley area home.
It got a lot of attention.
And now I have a shovel for my vehicle for winter.
How she handled it, part of what inspired Vanessa DeSorcy
to turn it into a Halloween costume.
Hehehehehehe!
That big smile on her face while she was in there,
There's a lot going on out there.
the fact that she was cracking jokes with her neighbors
and not panicking at all, and then her...
Her zinger, it's cold in a hole, from one of her interviews.
She is.
At the time, Kielbach thought she'd fallen into a sinkhole.
Turns out, the city said the likely cause,
a pipe not being capped when a catch basin was removed,
and gravel used to fill it, shifted.
Through it all, Kielbach's kept her sense of humour.
From the rescue, to seeing DeSorcy's costume online,
to us bringing them together in person.
I'm absolutely thrilled to meet Vanessa.
I'm so glad to have this opportunity because
it made my day, Vanessa. It was so funny.
I laughed and laughed and it was the best.
DeSorcy's happy to pay tribute to a Winnipegger who made her smile.
I love stories like this.
They make hard days feel lighter and they make everything more fun.
Kielbach's neighbors are having some fun too.
This has gone wrong. This is that situation gone wrong.
Marking what could have been a scary situation
with this playful display.
