AI GeneratedMeteorologist J.D. Rudd reports that Chicago is experiencing an unusually warm October, the warmest since 1971. While temperatures dipped slightly on Friday, the weekend remains mild. Halloween Saturday will see morning rain, but conditions are expected to clear up just in time for evening trick-or-treating, followed by a warm start to next week.
Hey, hi, hello from the Fox Chicago Forecast Center on a Halloween Eve.
Great to have you here on this Friday. I'm meteorologist J.D. Rudd.
For the first time in a while,
temperatures today were on the struggle bus.
We did not make it out of the 50s officially in Chicago.
High temperature today, 58 degrees.
That is the only third time this month where
the high temperatures have been below average.
You have to go back to the 16th and the 17th of this month.
The last time we saw temperatures stalling out in the 50s.
So, said differently, we have been spoiled this October.
So when the bottom does drop out, it is going to be brutal.
It's going to hurt because we're not used to the colder air.
As of today, this goes down as the warmest October we've had.
Since 1971, the average overall temperature is 61.3 degrees.
That's taking all the highs, all the lows, average them together.
It's also the fifth warmest October of all time.
So maybe call this Aug-tober.
So how long can we keep things on the milder side?
Milder being a relative term, of course.
This weekend, we're going to see high temperatures tomorrow around 60.
That's still above average, but most of the day will
be spent in the 50s for Halloween and then 66 on Sunday.
Now, there is rain in the forecast for our Halloween,
but the conditions are looking to improve as we go throughout the day.
Here is Futurecast.
We've been eyeballing this all week long,
and for days on end, I was telling you,
if we got rain on Saturday,
I think it'd be gone by the evening time frame.
Here's the most recent version of Futurecast, which does show spotty
to scattered showers in the morning to midday hours of our Saturday.
But then, as we head toward about 4, 5,
6 o'clock in the evening, showers start to move their way out.
Now, it may not be totally dry.
There will likely be a couple of neighborhoods
that do wind up getting some light showers and sprinkles,
at least briefly, during the trick-or-treat hours.
I'm sorry in advance, but most of us...
Should be going dry for prime trick-or-treat time on Saturday evening.
And then late Saturday night into Sunday,
more rain may try to work its way back into the area.
Here's an hourly breakdown
of our Saturday evening across the Chicagoland area.
Cloudy sky, temperatures in the 50s,
and wind speeds staying under 10 miles per hour.
That is not bad for this time of year.
Lows tonight, upper 40s to low 50s,
a little bit above normal to say the least.
And then highs tomorrow.
Many of us should reach the 60s,
but the bulk of the day will be spent in the 50s,
and the cloud cover, that's going to make it seem like it is cooler.
Then as we hit Monday and Tuesday, temperatures going up.
70 on Election Day Tuesday,
a chance of rain that evening into Wednesday.
Temperatures going back down for the second half of the week,
with highs falling to the 50s by Friday.
