It's Halloween, and some people go all out
when it comes to decorating their homes for
the spooky season.
And that includes a couple in Livermore.
They pick a theme for their house every year,
and this year, they decided to decorate their
house in a Star Wars theme.
Joining us now are the couple, John and Ginger Staden.
John and Ginger, are you there?
Can you see?
Wow.
Yeah.
I see you.
We can see you guys.
I see you.
I'm loving your house.
Thank you for having us in.
Thank you. Thank you for visiting.
Yeah, we're we're still a little bit groggy this morning.
We did. We were pretty late. We were pretty late last night.
I bet. I mean, it's showtime come tomorrow.
Tell us about your theme and how this all came together.
The whole shoot match. Well, I'm kind of a fan of Mandalorian.
And then they came out with the Mandalorian and Grogu movie.
So, we were just sitting around figuring out what we're gonna
do and then Ginger said,
well, I think we need to do Mandalorian, so there you go.
So we've got a couple of huts up on the stage,
I don't know if you can see it.
Yeah, yeah.
Their tails move and the heads move and-
He's gonna be, I've just got him doing some
cursory stuff where he moves his mouth and
makes the ho-ho sound, but I'm gonna have him talking later.
So John and Ginger,
who does the most work in putting this all together, you or him or-
John.
John does it.
Okay.
And lots of help.
Lots of help from our neighbors.
Lots of helpers that make this come alive.
Yeah, I would imagine,
how many man hours does it take to outfit your house like this,
let alone the electricity bill, and what do your neighbors think of it?
Well, the neighbors, I think, yeah,
the neighbors were really on board with it.
They all know that they gotta buy lots of candy.
The whole street kind of gets in,
and everybody's doing over-the-top decorations.
We have people going through like maybe 20 or 30 bags of Costco candy.
So it's kind of an event.
Yeah, and the roller coaster, when was that added?
That's this year. Let's see if I can get you over to it.
I can't run it tonight
or this morning because the safety pins
are with the engineer that designed it.
So that's Grogu, he sits in his pram. Can you see him?
Yes, we can.
Yeah, and then he goes up on the coaster
that goes all the way around and up around
the house.
My goodness.
Yeah, I'll go over to the other side.
So yeah, that's the track in the background.
I'm gonna go to show where he comes down the other side of the house.
Does your electric bill go up during Halloween?
No, cuz everything's pretty much LED.
So this is where it comes up over the roof, right?
Yeah.
And then he comes down, comes down and around,
and then he runs back underneath
Right in this house there, and it comes back to a starting position.
What is tomorrow night gonna be like there?
I mean, do you get a million kids or what?
Well, not a million.
Let me get my wife back here.
Not a million, but we probably get a couple thousand.
My God.
Wow.
It's hard to keep count.
Yeah, it really is hard to keep track.
The only way we can keep count is,
how many pieces of candy did we go through?
So we calculate that all ahead of time.
But it
2,000 to 2,200 kids.
That's amazing.
So bottom line, John and Ginger, is it worth it?
usually
Is it worth it to you?
Yeah.
The community loves it.
The community loves it.
The kids love it.
Yeah.
loves
I love seeing the faces on the kids,
cuz they all wanna ride the roller coaster now.
out
I bet.
Well, it's good to see the joy.
about
I know there's a lot of work before,
and I imagine a lot of work after getting it all cleaned up.
2 p.m.
But what a great thing.
John and Ginger, all the best in Livermore.
You keep it up, and happy Halloween.
And I hope the rain is wherever it may be.
It's not a lot because that is too pretty.
Enjoy.
Thank you for being with us on Mornings on 2.
Thank you.
