Listen to this interview, because Brian Poulsen just talked
with a Brewers legend, Paul Molitor.
Let's listen.
Paul Molitor, Milwaukee Brewers legend.
What is this moment like for you?
Well, you know, it's obviously a very special day for all Brewer fans,
Milwaukee and the
great state of Wisconsin.
As loyal fans as you can be,
they've waited patiently for four and a half decades to have
a chance to host another World Series, and it just means a lot to me.
I was always hoping that someday
Somehow, somewhere, I would see the Brewers as world champions,
and that day finally came.
Robin and Ted both said ahead of you that they felt
a weight lifted off their shoulders.
Do you feel that from this victory?
Yeah, I get where they're coming from.
You know, we kind of carried that burden
that we weren't able to finish the job.
But I know Robin will tell you,
we thought we were going to be back in it in the near term,
and it just never happened.
So, in some ways, not finishing off that series has lingered.
And...
I think more than anything, it's yes for us,
but more so for the great fans of the team.
Really, really appreciate it.
The fans gather here,
start here at the Summerfest gates, and goes
way to the Third Ward, like deep into the Third Ward.
You just can see people, you know,
farther than the eye can see.
It's crazy because if you go, let's go Brewers, let's go Brewers.
Did I mention it's been 44 years since
the Brewers were in the World Series?
I mean, Paul Mulligan was talking about
the burden that they felt, because they thought
they were going back to the World Series
a lot sooner than that, but even if it wasn't
them...
One of these teams, they would be marching in this parade,
and it's been so long, four
decades for Brewers fans to feel this.
That these names have been burned into our souls,
Paul Molitor, Raleigh Fingers, Robin
Yount, because they were our World Series team.
Even though they didn't win, they made it to the World Series.
And so now you think about that, the new names that will join them.
Because now we have a World Series team that not only appeared
in the World Series, but they actually won.
We've talked about this as a newsroom, too.
How often have we used that video from 1982?
And the fans, if you were captured in that celebration,
we have been using that as B-roll.
The inspiration, it's like we've been there before,
we will get there again, but we did.
This was our year, this is our year,
and we're just soaking in all of these moments here.
And I know it's going to be very emotional, we haven't seen tears yet.
But I think there are going to be some tears this afternoon
when we start to hear from the players on what this means
because three of the games of the World Series,
they were on the road, of course.
So they didn't know the pandemonium, the fandomonium,
that was happening here in the city of Milwaukee
and all across southeastern Wisconsin.
And so now they get to feel and see that for themselves.
It was fun.
Tim Van Mooren, when he was on the field at Tropicana Field,
had a computer screen up that was showing our coverage,
and it was the first time some of the Brewers fans were realizing.
Our Brewers players, excuse me,
were realizing what is happening back in Milwaukee
when my voice is gone because of what's happening back in Milwaukee.
You know what's also interesting?
These Brewers players haven't slept since winning the World Series.
Because they also went to support our Green Bay Packers,
and they took the trophy, the World Series trophy,
to Lambeau Field, and it's just...
Unbelievable, the ride that they've had since winning the World Series.
I don't think that they have had an hour's sleep with that.
And, of course, it was Sal Frelick
who jumped and did the Lambeau leap first.
Yes.
And then after that, it was like every single Brewers player
that was there jumping into the stands.
And I think the Brewers smartly have done
a really good thing realizing that this is not a Milwaukee team.
This is a Wisconsin team.
And they really felt that last night at Lambeau,
how much support they get all over Wisconsin.
And as we've been realizing through this run,
all across the country, people have Wisconsin connections.
