This young man is 20 years old.
On Sunday in Mexico, he will almost certainly become
the youngest Formula One World Champion in history.
Last week, it took me 11 attempts
to parallel park. 11. By the end,
the shawarma guy came outside and guided me with his hands
like I was landing a plane. So yeah, different levels.
Here's your favorite part of the story.
Kimi Antonelli had a Formula One license before he had
a normal driving license. He passed his actual
driving test in January 2025, six weeks before his F1 debut.
So how did he get this good this fast?
Start with his dad, Marco Antonelli.
He's a racing car driver who owns his own racing team.
Kimi was racing cars at seven.
At seven, I was watching Powerpuff Girls with my sister.
At 12, Mercedes Formula One signed him.
At 12, I got a bicycle, fell, and almost tore my ACL.
Then, in 2025, Mercedes had to replace Lewis Hamilton.
Seven world titles, the most successful driver ever.
And Toto Wolff, the boss of Mercedes Formula One,
looks around the planet and says,
the teenager, give it to the teenager.
And the teenager delivered.
First win in China, then in Japan,
he became the youngest championship leader ever.
And he's been on top ever since.
Last Sunday in Austin, he started from pole,
won by 13 seconds and took his ninth win of the season.
Toto Wolff called it the best race Kimi has ever driven.
The record he's about to break belongs to Sebastian Vettel,
who was 23 when he won in 2010.
Kimi was four years old at the time.
He was probably watching it on his dad's lap.
Here's the twist.
The only man who could delay this is his own teammate, George Russell.
If Russell doesn't win in Mexico, it's over.
Kimi becomes Italy's first world champion since 1953.
Kimi would end a 73-year wait for Italy.
So, on Sunday, a 20-year-old becomes champion of the world.
And I'll be watching it from my car
because I probably still can't get out of that parallel park.
