I was like, mom, Shannon's mom went shopping
and she had two bags of Abercrombie clothes
on her bed.
And my mom was like, oh my God, do you want something from Abercrombie?
And I was like, yes.
And she was like, okay, okay.
So the next day I get home from school and my mom's like,
go check your room.
I went up there, there was an Abercrombie job application on my bed.
I don't know.
Oh that's a funny mom. We got Bridget McGuire here in the studio.
You are a comedian but I
think to be a good comedian you have
to be a good storyteller and girl you got stories.
I have stories. I have stories.
And I feel like a lot of times you talk about some deep topics
like anxiety or what having OCD as well
not diagnosed until you were older but you kind
Trying to make fun of it, too, and I think that just lightens the mood
It enlightens life, right?
Is that fair to say?
Yeah, I mean, I feel like finding the humor
in it makes it more relatable, or people aren't
as scared about it.
Yeah.
Yeah, and OCD and anxiety does make you do funny things.
Yeah, no doubt.
When it comes to being on stage, that's just,
I mean, that sounds like anxiety alone.
I mean, is that enough to talk about?
Yes, except I don't have...
I don't get that much anxiety on stage.
Really?
No.
I feel like when I'm on stage,
that's when my anxiety goes away or my OCD is in the background
because I have to be present and focusing on making people laugh.
So I don't have, I always say I have like the weird anxieties.
Like most people get worried about like work.
And like, you know, and like, I don't know,
like, you know, future stuff.
What's yours?
Oh, mine are like, you know, did I leave that candle
on and my apartment's burned down right now?
You know, so stuff that doesn't really, that has never happened.
Yeah, yeah.
Where do you find your material?
Like in your daily life, are you walking
around and you go, oh, there it is.
There's something I need to talk about.
Yes, I feel like I, my parents give me a lot of material.
You know, just having boomer parents, it's just like a layup.
It's just, it's easy.
I also work with Gen Z and they're hilarious.
I feel like my mom now because
when they say these terms like low-key, high-key, I'm
like, what's the difference?
We were talking the other day about maxing being
the word of the year for dictionary.com,
maxing, like you're totally maxing,
like you're doing something to the extreme.
Well then they were looking at other words on the show
and one of them was, it said UNC,
like just the word UNC.
And I thought it meant UNC, like University of North Carolina.
Oh, it's UNC.
It's UNC.
And I was like, who says UNC?
I have a 13-year-old, so I thought I
was going to be pretty in the know.
Yeah, I totally, totally bummed out.
I still don't fully get what unk means.
I think it means uncle, right?
I don't know.
Okay, we got a Gen Z here.
But not like a literal uncle.
Well, it's literal uncle, right?
Oh, like bud.
You can talk out loud, it's okay,
but we clearly need some help right here.
Yeah, so like, hey, you're my unk.
Thanks, unk.
You're my unk.
I'm clearly not that cool.
You have this big show coming up.
It is called Ballet Flats for Dinner.
Why Ballet Flats?
What's behind the name?
So I was 29, and I was babysitting for...
Um, my, my sister's friend's son and I had
a pair of Tory Burch ballet flats that were
three years old and were disgusting.
I love them so much, but I, they had holes in them.
I walked all over Chicago in them, did everything in these shoes.
And when I was making, um,
the kid I was babysitting for mac and cheese, I like, he like, I like
looked down, he was gone.
I went and he was by the front door.
Chewing on one of the ballet flats.
So after I put him to bed, I started to get really anxious,
I'm like, what if he swallowed
something horrible?
So my OCD went wild, and so I was like,
how am I gonna figure out if he's gonna be okay?
And I was like, I know what I'll do, I'll lick the shoes.
I'll lick the ballet flat because that way tomorrow morning
when I wake up, if not, we're both screwed.
I was thinking it's like you wear ballet flats to dinner,
but no, it's like literal ballet flats for dinner.
I love this.
Looking forward to the show.
