All right, now to an only on Fox report.
So a 10-year-old boy with a rare medical condition will
be undergoing a third surgery,
giving him a 50-50 chance at eating
and digesting just like everybody else.
So Randy's joining us now.
He's got the story of Caleb Escobar.
You know, Anthony, Caleb is small for his age and tires easily.
His family hopes sharing his journey will help other
families facing complex medical issues feel less alone.
Caleb.
Caleb.
There's a lot of times that he'll just say like,
Mom, I just want to be normal.
I just want to be a normal boy.
We found this issue when he was about 11 months old.
We tried to give him mashed potatoes
as any regular family during Thanksgiving.
Whenever we tried to pass him some mashed potatoes
or something soft like corn,
he'd tilt his head to the side, spit it up.
We found out that he had an issue with his esophagus.
They did.
Put a G tube on him, a feeding tube,
and they also did three balloon dilations to each narrowing
of the esophagus that he had.
There's nobody in the world that has what he has,
especially being born with a stricture is not really common.
Let alone when people have two, he had three.
So all his medical team, I mean, we did try.
So many times with medications,
altering his diet and types of therapies, but it ultimately
led to his esophagus being removed and getting that stomach pulled up.
To replace his esophagus.
This is gonna be his life.
Balloon dilations after balloon dilations.
However, this procedure that we're gonna have
in December 3rd is a 50-50 chance.
So we have to roll the dice.
They don't wanna give us false hope, which is great.
They're telling us straightforward, this could fix his issues.
It's gonna be something where it releases the food faster
because his stomach with
the redesign of it doesn't pass food and doesn't have the mobility to
Chew up and pass the food properly
so it could be where this surgery allows him to pass the food within
a timely matter allowing the intestines to you know absorb
the nutrition and everything that's supposed to happen and then there's
a chance where it will still be the same if it's successful it would
be like what Caleb wants and that's to be like everybody else.
Yes yeah that's yeah that's exactly what he constantly says and he
does have multiple times where he says I just want to be a normal boy.
What if it doesn't work?
What would that mean?
I mean, that means that me and his mom,
my wife, will continue to fight for him.
We'll still continue to see the doctors.
We'll still continue to go through
his doctors to see what avenues we have.
We're not going to give up.
The Escobar family has set up our GoFundMe page.
They're also hoping to hear
from other families navigating rare medical issues.
Yeah, cute kid, man.
Sorry he's going through that stuff.
All right, all the best, Caleb.
