All right, welcome back. This story is perfect for Halloween.
A family in Katy was all dressed up in their costumes as cops
and robbers when some real cops flipped
their lights on and decided to pull them over.
This video on TikTok has almost a million views and over 100,000 likes.
You got to take a look.
When we were dressed as a police and we're coming from our kids trunk
or treat, we actually get stopped by the police.
And then the kids are the prisoners.
Bruh.
Baby,
I'm so tired.
We're kind of high.
Do you believe that?
And that was the family photo that you saw there
of them dressed as cops and robbers.
So I am so excited to introduce you to the family themselves.
Carissa, Jim, Moises, and Kehlani.
This is the Navarrette family.
They're the ones in Katy that got pulled over
in real life after actually
Heading from a Halloween event,
they're just trying to get the food going home.
So thank you all for coming on the show.
We are so excited to get the real details
into what exactly happened here.
Thank you so much for having us.
So that night it happened last Friday. It was at our,
we were coming from my baby's daycare for a Trunk or Treat Fall Festival.
And so on our way back home, I was hungry and my son Moises was hungry.
And my husband was the one driving and we couldn't make up our mind.
Yeah, so, like always, she didn't know what to,
what she wanted for dinner, so I pulled over in the middle
of the intersection to do a U-turn, and last minute, she's like,
no, no, let's just go home, so I bailed out on the U-turn
and decided to go home, and I guess the cop was like, what's going on,
and stopped us right away, so, but instantly, I was like, oh, no,
we're dressed up as cops, so at first, I thought it was really funny,
but then I was like, started panicking, you know, like,
what if we're impersonating the cop or something like that?
And it was pretty funny because the cops showed up
and right away he was like,
what precinct? He was going to ask what precinct we were from.
Yeah, because he honestly thought that we
were part of the crew of being a police
because the uniforms look legit.
And so when he said that, we were like...
And that's when he jumped in right away and he said,
oh, no, no, no, we're coming from our kids' fall festival.
And then what did he say?
Then I put the windows down and he saw the kids dressed as robbers
And he started laughing.
And that's when he jumped in.
He's like, that's some candy.
What did he say?
He was like, I got candy.
And it was like, oh, how much?
And I was like, oh, a lot.
Yeah, so then he was really, really cool about it.
And he was like, oh, don't worry.
I'm just going to run your ID and be a warning.
It was a fun experience with the cop.
Yeah, and when he went back to the car,
that's when I actually started recording
because I wanted to respect the privacy of the police
when he was coming in.
So, one, we were nervous, right?
So, once he walked off and, you know,
to take his driver's license and review his record,
that's when I was like, we laughed so hard.
I'm like, I have to record this of what's happening.
So, it was a quick, short video.
And lots of comments, actually, on TikTok were asking,
well, what happened with the police review?
Or what did he say?
We didn't really record that because, again, we were, one, nervous,
and two, we wanted to respect the privacy of them.
And, I mean, honestly,
it was a moment to remember that we're never going to forget
because, as you mentioned,
it's been over a million views and over 100,000 comments.
So it's been a hit.
Actually, my daughters who are teenagers are like,
Mom, you're getting more views than we do.
And they have TikTok accounts as well.
So, yeah, it's been a fun experience.
You have more kids than just the two in front of us.
That is so incredible.
Yeah, we have one.
Bring them in.
Bring the whole family in.
The other one is in college right now.
She's in college, there you are.
I love that.
That is for a family of six.
Oh my God.
Look at this wonderful family dressed as cops and robbers.
Now, do you, do you remember what police department did pull you over?
Was it a city police officer or a sheriff's deputy?
I think it was a constable, but we're in precinct five.
So I can't remember if it was the constable or sheriff.
And believe it or not, that intersection, people are always speeding.
And when we were coming, he was, like,
cognizant about saying, oh, I'm going to drive slow
because there's typically police on that intersection.
But it was the weaving in and out of making a decision what to go eat
because we were all really hungry.
But nobody could make up their mind.
So we're like, no, let's just go home
and get whatever the food we have at home.
I think the cop was kind of like, what's going on with that car?
You know, weaving in and out.
We got stopped, but it was so funny.
Yeah.
That's why she's like, oh, I'm going to record this.
I'm like, yeah, it's going to be really funny.
So what is Teen Daughter in the back?
What do you think of your parents literally going viral,
dressed up as police officers with two robbers,
a.k.a. the little ones, in the back?
It was so funny.
They posted it when I was in the car,
when they picked me up from my friend's house,
and it got so many views right after they posted it.
It's too good. As soon as I saw the video, I said, oh, my gosh,
I wonder if they would come on Fox 26 just to debrief this whole situation.
And again, what did the officer have to say once he saw that you were
dressed as police officers and you had two robbers in the backseat?
I'm
He was like, you caught him.
I'm like, yeah, I'll get that.
starting
And actually, he started laughing so hard.
Like, he was like, I know he wanted to say more,
but we could tell he was, like, confused.
And, yeah, it was an amazing experience for him and us as well.
to
Yeah, I was like, oh, he's going to show
his body cam to his colleagues at work, I bet.
speak.
Yeah, I was like, we're going to be the talk of the week for sure.
Well, big brother,
are you more inclined to dress as a police officer now
After experiencing that real encounter or.
But I would prefer a robber
because it would just be more funny in the back.
And when I said, bro, a lot of comments went up as bro.
Oh, yeah.
He was saying that like we get stopped all the time.
Hi.
I love that you used bro.
That's when I laughed the hardest in the video.
You said, bro.
Wow.
I just loved it.
Well, what are your plans for Halloween now
that you were let off with a warning?
Good morning.
No more U-turns for undecided food.
What are your plans for Halloween this weekend on Saturday?
So for sure, he has a birthday party to go to during the day,
which is a Halloween themed
party.
And then at night, we're going to go trick
or treating around the neighborhood with the
kids.
So those are our plans.
And we are going to be cops and robbers.
So, yes.
I love it. And just lastly,
this situation seemed to be handled so well by the police officer.
And I know out of respect, you weren't rolling on that part.
But what would you say to your community who encounters
these police officers? And how do you feel after that experience?
I think it's respect in, respect out, right?
I think both ways, respect each other,
and they have work to do, especially during Halloween.
It's very, everybody be very careful walking out at night,
but I think, you know, they have a lot of work,
especially Halloween's on a Saturday.
So, you know, there are going to be a lot of people out celebrating,
so just very respectful both ways.
I think it's good for everybody.
They're doing the work, so.
Oh, yeah, good approach.
Yeah. Well, you guys handled it awesome.
I love that you shared the video. I did write down your TikTok handle.
If you want to go check out that video,
it's at Miss M-I-S underscore Shula, S-H-U-L-A. Did I get that right?
Yep. If you want to go see the video for yourself,
it's still popping off. It's so much fun.
What a wonderful family you all are.
Thank you for sharing your story
and coming on Fox 26 to talk with us
about that encounter that went viral
right out of Katy,
right here in the Houston, Texas area.
So we appreciate it.
Happy Halloween.
Enjoy being cops and robbers again.
And I hope we have no more run-ins
with the real cops.
Oh yeah, no, no, no, for sure.
No, thank you so much for having us.
We really appreciate you.
Thank you.
Happy Halloween.
Happy Halloween.
Halloween.
Bye, friends.
Bye, happy Halloween.
