Could the Yankees trade for this second baseman?
According to Joel Sherman, the Yankees have shown interest
in Michael Massey of the Kansas City Royals.
Would that be a good fit for the Yankees?

This is the place to be if you love the New York Yankees.
Michael Massey, if you guys don't know him,
plays for the Kansas City Royals, second baseman.
this season for Kansas City let's go take a look
at his numbers he hit .272, 13 home runs, 50 runs
batted in 303 on base percentage 731 OPS 428 slug
104 OPS plus you have Massey for a couple of more
seasons as you can see here if you were to trade
for him right now he can play the outfield too he's
also a left-handed bat now if Massey was on the team
this year he would have the highest batting
average on the New York Yankees
not even kidding he would have had the highest average on the
Yankees now left-handed hitter the Yankees lineup kind
of had a lot of those you're losing a guy
like Jazz Trent Grisham to free agency most likely going
to move on from Ryan McMahon do you want to
Add Massey, who is, by the way, a very good second baseman.
Jazz played well this past year over there.
Second base, outs above average.
I believe Jazz had like a 13 outs above average.
FRV was also good.
Defensive run saved, not so great for Jazz.
But Massey, really good defensive runs saved.
Let's go check that out, actually.
Over there on FanGraphs, Massey had five defensive runs saved,
11 outs above average, and eight FRV fielding run value.
Is he a good fit?
Would you want the Yankees to go and trade for him?
I think when it comes down to it,
the Yankees need guys who can put the bat on the ball
and who keep the line moving, right?
They also need guys who don't strike out a lot either
because they have a lot of those.
Now, Massey only struck out 75 times this past year
in 131 games for Kansas City.
He doesn't strike out.
I would like him to walk a bit more.
he doesn't walk all that much but if the yankees could make
a move for a guy like him would you
guys do it and what would you trade now probably won't cost you all
that much i'm actually going
to baseballtradevalues.com here
to see what it could potentially take to go get Massey okay his
value isn't that bad but what would Kansas City want
for a guy like Massey would they want a
pitching prospect so are we looking at like
a Thatcher Hurd for for Massey maybe you'd have to
put in somebody else but if you want to take a look at this right here
so Massey if you guys use
this site baseball trade values it gives you
a very rough idea on what it could possibly take
to go and get somebody
so it shows you their values their potential value and Massey's rated
a six Thatcher Hurd's rated a five
so let's validate the trade seems fair right so if the
Royals want a pitching prospect in Thatcher Hurd
for Massey a guy with multiple years of control
beyond 2027 i believe maybe it's 27 to 28
so he's got two years of of control is it worth it he's a
good player Massey's a pretty solid player really good defender he hits
the baseball doesn't strike
out a lot would not be upset if the yankees could pull off
a deal to get him but you're adding
another left-handed bat and yes you're losing one in Jazz
and you're losing another in Trent
Grisham you're adding a left-handed bat where you want
to kind of throw in a righty instead and
that's where Anthony Volpe comes
in for second base we've seen Volpe play a little bit of second
last season he held the zone over there I honestly
I thought he looked good I've said this before and
I'm going to say it again sending him down
was the best thing to happen to him they send him down
hits the crap out of the ball down there
in Triple-A just knocks the crap out of the ball they bring
him back up and even though
the numbers don't reflect it he just seemed like a different player
and listen if you've been following the channel
for a while you know i'm incredibly incredibly
incredibly tough on Anthony Volpe you could look at past uploads
and i've been incredibly tough on
him but i'm if i read if i see something else
and if i see like oh hey this player looks a little
different i'm also going to call that out and i'm
also going to give credit where credit is due
and with Anthony Volpe I think he deserves some
credit here he just looked like a different ball
player but in a in a good way in a good way
so trading for a guy like Massey he hit .272 last
year didn't strike out a lot at all 75 strikeouts as I said earlier
and he would have led the Yankees
in batting average doesn't get on base much
that's .731 OPS solid I mean of course I would
I'd welcome that for sure it's higher than what
Jazz had last year it's higher than what Jazz
had last year so Massey is that a bad move
and that's not a bad move I just good defender if
you could get him for kind of cheap maybe you try
to get him he's a good baseball player I would
love though Anthony Volpe if that's what you're gonna
do I would just try to roll with Anthony
Anthony Volpe and just see what you have
in him I don't think that's a crazy thing to say I want to
see what you have in Volpe if you're tempted
to trade for a guy like Michael Massey but if you
could get a good deal for him well maybe you make
that move but I want to bring this up and I know
we talked about it I know I talked about it
the other day Jorge Posada I'm just seeing the it's
so weird man it's so weird how some Yankees fans
feel about it like me personally I love Jorge
i love i love his fire i love the fire
the passion that he has when it comes down to it
is he going to be the yankees manager no you can't help
though how somebody feels and i've seen oh
you know the yankees invite jorge
to old-timers day they invite him to this and that you could
get invited to something and still feel
a little weird about it you could feel uncomfortable in a
situation but still have a presence there
that doesn't make any sense oh he's invited they didn't
say he wasn't invited
but things like spring training he mentioned all right well he doesn't
really go to that because of how he feels
a little unwelcome now i know some of you wanted like a
reason why he felt unwelcome if that comes out
that comes out it is what it is he feels how he
feels he's a four-time world series champion he managed some
of the best pitching staffs
over the past 30 years he's very good
so enough of the honestly enough of the Jorge slander I
just think it's a little silly why are we talking about Jorge
in a negative light it doesn't make
sense to me at all it truly truly doesn't
not that he can't do anything wrong I'm not saying
Jorge's perfect nobody is but just
because he feels a certain way he gets called out on it and
it's it's just it seems a little weird
that's all it just seems weird to me but guys listen
thank you so so much for watching I actually have
a giants channel if that's your thing joe talks
Giants go look it up cover the New York Giants over there
so if you want to go check that out
that would be much appreciated but guys listen thank you
so so much for watching I'll see you
next time take care
