Oct 14, 2026
Here are five free agents
that the Yankees should target this offseason.
Let me know your five down in the comments.
Hit that like button and subscribe if you haven't already,
especially if you love the
Yankees.
This is the place to be.
I keep you guys updated throughout the offseason
into spring training and, of course, into
the regular season.
People seem to like it here, so I think you'll like it here, too.
But listen, here are five free agents
that the Yankees should target this offseason,
and we're going to start off with Taruki Sato.
now plays over there in Japan had a fantastic
season once again hit 39 home runs let's check
out his numbers 39 homers 106 runs batted
in .306 batting average a .991 OPS he's a left-handed bat
609 slug strikes out a lot 164 strikeouts strikes out
a ton but the power is there
he's an extra base hit machine really 40 doubles
for Sato 40 doubles 165 hits the guy puts the bat
on the ball too when when he sees a pitch he likes he licks his chops
and he takes care of it
he swings in the zone a lot but also too he chases a lot
but Sato I think personally the
Yankees need to go out and see what it would take
to get him you saw Murakami the year he had you
saw Akimoto the year he had Sato maybe could have
that kind of year too over here in the states
defensively maybe you're losing a little bit there
but plays third base maybe he can play first base
i'm not entirely sure you play the corners he's got
a heck of an arm corner outfield spots heck
of an arm when it comes down to if the Yankees need guys
who could come in here and who could
hit and who could produce and if this guy sees a pitch that he likes
and if he sees a pitch in the
zone he's going to swing at it he's going
to make contact he's a bit aggressive up there at the
plate but I think that's what the Yankees kind
of need there were too many times this postseason
where they weren't aggressive where they just took
too many pitches Sato kind of he doesn't do that
which leads to a lot of strikeouts but also too
when a ball is in the zone he takes care of
business so is he a the best fit
for the Yankees maybe they don't like him defensively maybe they
rather Ryan McMahon but Ryan McMahon number one regressed defensively
in 2026 could not provide
you any kind of offense at all in 2026
so what's the point right if he couldn't give you good
defense and if Sato just gives you maybe
a tier below what McMahon just gave you this past year
but his bat has a very high ceiling like
a Murakami or Akimoto I think it's definitely
worth going out and trying
for I think he's definitely worth going out and attempting to
go and sign now Ryan Garcia started
his own channel he does fantastic work I would love
to have him on here someday maybe I should shoot him a message
but he used this graph from Tristan
over there in X Yankees Focus and Ryan had
a tremendous breakdown on Sato over there in his
channel i'll leave a link down in the um description
if you guys want to check that out because it was
a fantastic breakdown but look at this graph right
as i said sato swings in the zone a lot
but he chases a ton at least they
am chasing now would he have a similar wRC+ as Murakami i
I mean, Murakami 129, Akimoto 113,
Sato, left-handed bat, a lot of power.
Both guys have a lot of power.
If I'm the Yankees,
I think it's definitely worth going out and attempting to sign him.
Maybe a West Coast team wants him,
but I think the Yankees should 1000% go out and target
Sato, especially with how impressive he is offensively.
Now, could that translate to maybe
a .220 batting average over here in the States?
but 35 home runs, yeah, I could.
That's much better than whatever this Yankee lineup
was providing this past season.
I think the world of Sato, I think he's really good.
Just won the Triple Crown.
I think he's worth at least, please,
for the love of everything, make him an offer.
I love his bat.
Now, the next one that the Yankees should target,
the next free agent, Luis Arias.
Now, Arias this season split time
between the Giants and the Phillies.
hit .310, six home runs, .345 on base,
765 OPS, just under his career OPS of 775.
But look at what he did with the Giants.
He hit 324, 801 OPS. He played a good second base this
year too. Goes over, gets traded to Philadelphia.
OPS goes down to 678. But here's the thing.
he still he still hit .278 he struck out seven times
in 46 games he only walks nine times the
guy doesn't he doesn't walk a lot
but he still walks more than he strikes out still and he
improved defensively he had 33 doubles
this season 185 hits seven triples a left-handed
bat at the stadium improved defensively this year yankees like him
but it didn't fit it didn't fit
He wasn't a fit for them at this past deadline
because they still believed in jazz.
But if Sato doesn't work out,
because we know Anthony Volpe is going to either play second,
maybe even third base.
He made one heck of a play over there at third base.
I think Volpe made tremendous strides as a player since being recalled.
He looks a lot more mature.
He looks different.
And if you follow this channel,
you know how tough I am on Anthony Volpe.
He just looks like a different ball player in a good way.
So I would love for him to get an opportunity,
whether that's at second base or even third base.
I don't know.
I don't even care.
I think he has the arm for it.
And a lot of people say,
Oh,
well,
it depends where he's making that throw.
He's not going to make that throw deep at short,
right?
He's going to play a little more in anyway.
We're just veering off here.
Louisa Rice.
The Yankees should win thousand percent target.
And he's the kind of hitter that nobody in the,
in the,
the league has nobody really in the league values
him as much as they should this guy should
be valued more Yankees should go out and get him
now the next one the catcher Ryan Jeffers Jeffers
this season dealt with an injury with the Twins
hit .256, 14 homers for 56 runs batted in and an .814 OPS
that's well over his career average of .753
127 OPS plus over his career average now against
right-handed pitching .819 OPS against left-handed
pitching .802 OPS the Yankees need somebody they need a catcher
who could hit left-handed pitching
and Jeffers does that now here's the thing you
also have Carson Kelly in free agency I chose
Jeffers because I like Jeffers a lot
so I chose him over Carson Kelly both guys are going to get
starting catcher money more so Jeffers
so he might be out of the realm of possibility for the Yankees
because they believe in Austin Wells
and Austin Wells heck of a catcher but i'm going to read
you some of Wells's numbers they're it's kind of crazy Carson Kelly
though against left-handed
pitching believe I put him up here .871 OPS
against left-handed pitching now he might get
starting catcher money but if he doesn't
and if he comes a little cheaper I think he's definitely
worth it for the Yankees to go out
and even sign Carson Kelly so at this spot Jeffers Kelly
either one they might not get either of them
because now Austin Wells played himself back
into the starting role back into hey he's
our everyday catcher some of you might not like that
because he had a dreadful June he only played 12
started 10 games played 12 games had a .61 batting
average he was dreadful .152 OPS he was terrible
but then after that his second half of the season
I mean guys the numbers don't lie .787 OPS
in the second half of the season first half of the season
504 he was so bad in the first half
that his second half improved greatly look at his batting
average .229 in the second half as opposed to .155
his on base percentage 351 in the second half
slug almost 200 points better his second half he
was a different hitter in a good way july .687
OPS much better than his previous two months august .746
then september .830 that's the kind
of catcher the New York Yankees need that's kind
of production they need that catcher you just have
to find somebody who could hit left-handed pitching a catcher
who could hit left-handed
pitching because Austin Wells has a four had
a .436 OPS against left-handed pitching that's that
that's the problem at catcher
but he improved greatly in the second half of the season so we
have to point that out
but I would love it if the Yankees would at least give Jeffers a call
give Kelly a call makes a lot of sense
to me now free agency top free agent on the market
hit. I think the Yankees, in my opinion, are going to be in on him.
And I know he plays for
the Dodgers. I understand that. I do.
But if the Dodgers, they may not, but if they lose this
series against Milwaukee,
maybe they don't think Schuuble is worth that kind of investment. And I
think the Yankees should go all over this and see
if they can reel Scooble in. Brian Cashman loves
him he tried trading for him multiple times in the offseason
when the Tigers wanted Ben Rice and
Schlittler crazy but then at the deadline he tried
going after him Cashman when he wants somebody
he tries his best to go out and get him
and now being that he's going to be a free agent and
listen are they going to spend that kind of money
on a starting pitcher probably not they should
definitely think of it and you might
be thinking Joe we got Cole under contract Rodon under
contract Max Fried you only got Rodon
and Cole under contract for two more seasons after this
one that's it so that money frees up eventually
and it goes away well frees up then you got Cam
Schlittler who then you're gonna have
to you know start paying arbitration to eventually but
that's not i know it's not next season
then you have Max Fried he was already gonna be in when
Cole and Rodon are gone they're gonna be he's gonna
be already in what four years into into
that what was an eight-year deal and Skubal
at that point he would be in what in on on year three
if the Yankees were blessed enough to sign him
the Yankees starting rotation is their strength
go out there and shore up that strength
and then maybe you could trade from your depth like Ryan
Weathers, Will Warren I like both guys Weathers I love I fell
in love with that guy anyway you
could trade from what you have from your your your strength
and go out and get a bopper go out and
get a third baseman or second baseman
or just improve that lineup with your excess pitching
that you have because maybe you signed Skubal I think Skubal
is worth it especially for some
reason if the Dodgers aren't gonna go crazy after him
which there's no indication that that they
won't I'm not saying that that they won't
but when it comes to pitching Cashman loves his pitchers
signed Cole at the end of 19 then signed Rodon
a few years later signed Max Fried a few years later
they went after Yamamoto he loves his pitchers
before they got Fried went met with Corbin Burns
Blake Snell Cashman loves
his pitchers I think it's possible they should definitely go out and
target Tarik Skubal he's worth it
but the last on our list David Bednar and this video has gone
so long David Bednar, New York Yankee free agent, 2.47 ERA
this year 35 saves, 69 and a third innings
pitched 76 strikeouts over one WHIP, Bednar's first half
of the season, let's go check that out, wasn't
good, I mean first few months were not good, first half he ironed it out
but first few months of the
season 3.55 ERA, April May was worse, 5.56
then he straightened it out, June through September he
straightened it out, he was locked down, he was nails
as some would say, his WHIP was so freaking
high, look at his WHIP those final three months
of the season four months of the season Yankees have
to go bring back their guy David Bednar, go get him
but guys listen, thank you so so much for watching
this video went went so freaking long, that's wild I can't
this is the longest one I think I've ever
uploaded, but guys thank you
so much for watching, I'll see you next time, take care
