All right, good morning. Welcome to Good Day LA.
It's 7 o'clock on the dot on this Wednesday, October 28th.
Happy Wednesday. We made it to Wednesday.
Let's get to Maria with a look at the forecast.
Middle of the week and we are looking at some changes in the forecast.
Yes, usually you guys are here, so I'm a little thrown off that at
the top of the 7 a.m. You're not here in front of the big screen.
I know. I don't know why. Who knows?
Do you get distracted?
We're just trying to keep people on our toes.
All right, all right. Keeping me on my toes.
Good morning to you on this Wednesday.
Indeed we've got some clouds outside, a little bit more than
the last couple of mornings actually
and this is all ahead of a storm system that's going
to bring us some rain this weekend I know
I know it's Halloween it's not supposed to rain
but temperatures right now we're going to enjoy
43 up into Palmdale, 51 in Santa Clarita, 57 downtown
LA, 26 in Big Bear, that's cold, that's well below
freezing, 59 in Palm Springs, high temperatures
today will range anywhere from 84 in the low
desert area so still pretty warm especially inland 73
for the high desert the mountains
we've got some partly cloudy to partly sunny skies 61
and as we look at our temperatures near
downtown LA, 75 to that 76 for the valleys
in the Inland Empire, low 70s along the coast and yes you
guessed it we still have those coastal flood warnings
and alerts we've got the high tides
coming in and I'll talk more about
that and the storm we're expecting for the Halloween weekend
in the meantime I'll send it back to you too all
right Maria, thank you. Well neighborhoods along
our coasts are on alert this morning due to those high tides.
Gigi Graciette is live in Long Beach
now with a look there. Good morning, Gigi.
Good morning. We've been getting an up-close look at
the damage done and what folks here on Seaside Walk
and 66th and 67th are doing to shore up
their homes. Many have boarded up their windows.
The boardwalk, the part that hasn't been destroyed,
I can tell you a great part of the boardwalk is now gone.
They've also shored it up with wood there.
You can see some of the houses have been shored up.
And then further down, there is a house that is destroyed,
one of 13 structures that has
been red tagged.
And you can see photographer Armando Hernandez to your left,
you can see the berm here.
They built up the sand,
but you can also see that there is water that has made its way.
Not so much here, you can see a little bit of it here,
but further down, you can see
all that water that just easily came over
the berm with the strength of the waves.
And Long Beach really hasn't recovered yet
from all the damage done from the remnants
of Hurricane Maria and Tropical Storm Rachel.
Its coastline has been plummeted by these waves,
and now we're expecting more, I believe
high tides about 10, 22.
Maria Quaban and Samada Khan have had more on that.
We're gonna be telling you more about that,
but that's expected at 1022.
And now we're also learning that those high tides
are coming back for Thanksgiving.
So it's going to be an extremely long process here.
And Long Beach, of course, not alone.
There is so much damage up and down the coast here.
And another place that has been hit really hard
is Newport Beach,
and that's where Mario Ramirez is this morning,
getting another look, talking to folks.
What are you seeing out there, Mario?
I know you spent a lot of time here in Long Beach.
You have seen this, and really, TV doesn't do it justice,
the damage that's been done here.
Oh, absolutely. I agree, Gigi.
We've been out there seeing some
of the same homes that you're looking at,
and it's hard to believe that they're still looking ahead
to the next couple of months
and those king tides, as you mentioned, around Thanksgiving.
I had someone just walk by the Balboa Pier here and say,
when is the next time that we should be prepared?
So this week, of course, we've been talking about,
and then again in November.
And it's the homes here behind me just down
the peninsula that are of biggest concern.
That's where we've seen some of the flooding
and we're again near the pier.
And you see this massive sand berm.
We're starting to get a sliver of sunlight here.
So it's a beautiful morning here along
this part of the Orange County coastline.
But now we have another round of extremely high tides expected.
And coastal communities like this one are bracing for more flooding.
Now take a look at what we've seen here
in Newport Beach over the past few days.
Streets turned into rivers here.
water surrounding homes and businesses
and crews working to keep the flooding from getting even
worse and what you're seeing here is actually
a result of the high water the rising water levels
on the harbor side the other side of the peninsula the Balboa Fun Zone
and parts of the peninsula
hit especially hard
on Monday water levels reached 8.3 feet nearly two feet higher than
predicted and yesterday flooding continued with crews using pumps
and sandbags to protect these
low-lying areas let's go to Huntington Beach just up
the coast in Sunset Beach water flooded
homes, garages, and streets,
and parts of that area were left vulnerable. There's an important
traffic alert for drivers as well this morning.
The city of Huntington Beach is closing a stretch
of PCH between Warner and Anderson Street,
and we want to let people know about that. Meanwhile,
impacted residents say the water started rising
very quickly around high tide. Take a listen.
We thought we would be okay until
the water breached the seawall over there,
and we just watched it slowly come over
and creep up to the house and flood the inside.
It just rushed within 20 minutes. It was up above my boot.
It came up that fast?
It came up that fast, like that,
and it stayed like that for a good three hours.
So the concern now is what happens when the next high tide arrives.
Officials say water levels are expected to be slightly lower today,
but flooding is still possible in some
of these vulnerable coastal areas.
And coming back out here live,
another look at the water here this morning.
As you heard Gigi mention, and Maria's been talking about it,
high tide coming up at 10:22 this morning.
And it's expected to be over 8 feet.
It's been a foot to 2 feet higher than predicted.
Hey, I want to grab this resident really quickly.
You live here nearby.
How are you feeling about these king tides?
Well, definitely better today.
The last couple of days have been really stressful
for everybody here in the city.
But as everybody's been saying, the city of Newport's been here
and has been putting out sandbags,
putting out the resources that are needed
to make sure everybody's safe and their homes are secure.
So we're very lucky, but as you shared earlier,
it's going to be coming back in November, and we just have to prep.
This is going to go on for a few more months,
and we hope we survive it, right?
Yeah, well, it's good to hear that you're
feeling a little easier this morning.
Oh, yeah, for sure.
I think everybody was really worried, you know,
when it first started a couple weeks ago, when it was pretty bad.
And then they keep on assuming, like,
and preparing that it's going to get worse.
And so as they're prepared, we're going to be better off.
So we're very fortunate.
Thank you.
Appreciate it.
Thanks.
Yeah, she said, if you're walking your dog,
a lot of residents start to wake up, come
and take a look at some of the progress here along the coast for now.
Newport Beach, we'll send it back to you.
People out there seem to be very patient, right,
and just informed as to what's going on.
All right, Mario. Thank you. We appreciate it.
Happening today, the city of Los Angeles will announce
the creation of a $10.5 million fund
to support Boyle Heights residents and small businesses
who've been affected by the Lineage Logistics Warehouse fire.
People in the community are continuing to experience
those health issues linked to the fire,
which burned for eight days and was followed by air pollution
and a persistent rotting odor.
Mayor Karen Bass will hold a news conference
in Boyle Heights at 8:30 this morning
to discuss details of the fund.
When that happens, we'll bring it to you live.
A federal judge has ruled that Bill Osali,
the top federal prosecutor in Southern California,
is in his position unlawfully
and has disqualified him from overseeing the prosecution in two
criminal cases. At issue is how Osali came to his job.
He was initially given the post of
first assistant U.S. attorney under an appointment
that expired after 120 days. At the end of that
term, then Attorney General
Pam Bondi appointed him as
special attorney and named him to
that post permanently. Well,
yesterday, the judge ruled that
that appointment was unlawful
because Osali was never
formally nominated by the
president or confirmed by the
Senate. The disqualification
does not take effect
immediately, giving the Justice
Department time to get a stay
during the appeals process.
Bill Osali put out a brief
statement saying we respectfully
disagree with the court's order
and that the question will
ultimately be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court,
and that he looks forward to serving his current
role until then. Breaking news out of Spain this morning.
The death toll in a crash between two
high-speed trains has increased to 64 and could continue to rise.
It happened in the province of
Toledo. The two trains were traveling in the same direction
when one train crashed into the back of
another which had stopped.
Two cars derailed, sending the train sprawling down an embankment.
On top of the 64 people who were killed,
at least 80 others have been injured. This is the second
deadly train crash in Spain so far this year.
Defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio
Bolsonaro has left his home country
and has arrived in the United States. The move comes
right after his weekend election loss,
and the U.S. State Department confirms he and his family
will receive visas to stay here.
Back home, Bolsonaro was under investigation for money
laundering and had actually been ordered
to hand over his passport. His father, former
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro,
is currently serving a 27-year prison sentence for planning
a coup after his supporters attacked government buildings.
Bolsonaro, one of the more conservative of the two candidates,
da Silva was more liberal.
But what I find fascinating is that that election was so close
also, just like a 2%,
difference. So what we see in our elections here,
other countries are dealing with kind of the same
thing there. Less than a week from our midterm elections,
a number of polls show Democrats are
likely to pick up seats in Congress.
Will it be enough to regain control of the House or the
Senate? Doug Luzader has the latest from Washington.
I guess it depends on which poll
you ask, right? Yeah, well, that's true. Yeah.
You know, so much of the nail biting now centers
around these these Senate races.
It wasn't long ago where the Senate was still considered kind
of a safe bet for Republicans to keep control.
Now it's looking like much more of a toss-up
and that had the president yesterday going to Texas.
In Texas, it was the story of lines for
dueling Senate candidates.
Democrat James Talarico, a big draw for those looking for change.
For 32 years, Republicans have been running this state
and I personally feel they've just
been running it into the ground.
President Trump with a line of his own at a pair of rallies,
something of a Texas two-step as he sought
to boost Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton.
One supporter who waited in line was overcome.
I love my freedoms. I love my country.
And we fought for it for so long.
As he returned to Washington early this morning,
the president sounded upbeat.
Very excited. I think we've made a big impact.
But for the Senate specifically, our new Fox News power rankings show
an improving battlefield for Democrats.
And today, the president heads to Ohio,
one of three states where we're seeing Republican chances falling.
Ohio was a toss-up.
Now, in the race between Senator John Husted and former
Senator Sherrod Brown, Democrats appear to have a slight edge.
But all of these predictions depend on polling in a tough environment.
I'm hearing from pollsters that it is polling hell.
It is incredibly difficult to get Republicans
to respond to a text or a phone call.
Yeah, it's definitely harder to reach Republicans
for pollsters than it is for them to reach Democrats.
But it's difficult for them to reach anyone,
which makes polling extremely onerous.
As we get through each election cycle, it gets harder and harder.
And some of these states have better polling than others.
So this is obviously a state-by-state contest
for control of the Senate and House.
It's obviously district-by-district,
and polling is even less reliable perhaps in those races.
Yeah, and some of these races are very close.
And not just, Doug, here in the U.S.,
but also look what's happening in Israel, right?
More voters have turned out in a generation,
we're being told, and it's very close over there.
Yeah, you know, Israeli politics is very heated and very complicated.
And there, you know, this was widely seen as a referendum
on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
You know, they don't vote directly for prime minister,
as you know, that seats in the Knesset.
And it's a lot of coalition building to figure out
who's ultimately going to be in power there.
And it may take a while before we have an answer.
Yeah, they're completely deadlocked right now.
And it's also it's a consequential election for them there in Israel
because this could really shape their policy moving forward.
You know, what happens there with Iran, what happens with Palestine.
Yeah, and this was the first election since the October 7th attacks,
so there's a lot of additional weight because of that.
And, you know, the Arab parties, there are Arab parties in Israel,
and they did particularly well in this.
And they may be ultimately the kingmakers in figuring out
which party wins control.
That's a good point. All right, Doug, thank you.
Thanks, Doug. Have a great day.
Thank you.
Take a short break. We'll be right back.
And welcome back to you. I'm meteorologist Maria Quaban.
All week we have been talking about the flooding.
And so, yes, more of that king tides through at least Thursday
with the morning high tides could top eight feet again today between 10
and 12 noontime near record highs.
That means, once again, some flooding of those low-lying areas like
the parking lots, the roads, and some of those homes, unfortunately.
And we have had some all-time record high temperatures
in San Pedro all the way back, dating to 1923.
That record was 7.93.
We beat it this week, Monday morning,
also yesterday morning, with a more than 8-foot high tide.
Similar conditions expected today.
As we look at the normal high tides at 6.8 yesterday,
got up to 8.19 today.
similarly around 6.75 and it's been running about a good foot
or so above normal so we will likely
see that eight foot high tide again today
so just be mindful of that if you live in and around those
areas or you're headed to the coast you could
be seeing some of that flooding again and that
includes also some road closures due
to that flooding here's the big picture as we look ahead
to this coming holiday weekend it is Halloween
and we're watching a couple of weather systems
which will be helping to impact our weather here we're going
to tap into this subtropical flow from
the south and southwest so i'm
not expecting any snow down here i think the snow level will stay
well above 9,000 feet we could get a little bit
of sprinkle activity on Friday watch the time stamp
as you watch these two systems kind of converge over
the southwest we will get some rain this
weekend the timing is a little tricky still
at this point the models have a difficult time kind
handling these types of storms
but we're thinking sometimes Saturday into Sunday and it could impact
your trick-or-treating hours we're hoping it'll
hold off until after all of that maybe hold off
till Saturday night into Sunday we'll wait
and see otherwise remember this Saturday night set your
clocks back an hour Sunday morning this is the end
of daylight saving time so this is where we gain
that extra hour of sleep that extra hour of fun Saturday night
so we will take advantage of it
definitely. Hopefully it won't be too rainy where you are.
74 degrees today for Inglewood. It will
be dry. 72 in Bakersfield as you head up north around 72 in Sacramento
85 in Indio out towards
the Coachella Valley. And here's your day planner.
Thousand Oaks. We've got some clouds rolling in. So
we'll look for partly cloudy to partly sunny skies
this afternoon with those temperatures
continuing to cool down to even slightly below
the average today in many areas. Big Bear,
it will get up to the upper 50s,
maybe near 60 at 1 p.m. from the 20s we're seeing out there
this hour and then Anaheim we've got mostly fair skies
but then we got the clouds increasing
partly cloudy to partly sunny getting to around 74
at 1 p.m. today all right i'll show you that 70
forecast in just a few moments
but first let's go to Justin O'Brien up in SkyFox in for Stu
this morning good day good morning Justin yeah good day Maria great
to uh see you again looking
down here not a good day for uh drivers making
their way through Long Beach 405 here very slow
all the way from Signal Hill.
This traffic report is brought to you by My Home Sold.
Just pulling out wider here, I want to show you,
there's actually a seven-vehicle crash out here in Long Beach.
CHP are on the scene.
We've got several vehicles that are damaged,
but some vehicles appear that they'll be able to be driven away.
So hopefully that will be cleaned up pretty soon.
Just be aware, too, that signal alert's still at the 7.10
as you're trying to get on to the 405 South,
and a heads-up, too, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
at PCH closed there between Warner
and Anderson at Sunset Beach between Huntington Beach.
Now, let's look at some other traffic hotspots.
Hi, I'm Adrian with My Home Sold, and we want to buy your house.

New polling just dropped showing the race
for L.A. mayor is getting tighter.
You'll remember Democratic challenger Councilwoman Nithya Raman has
been riding high on a double-digit lead over Mayor Bass for weeks now.
Okay, so where are we this morning? Sandra's here with the results.
Hi there. Yes, an exciting time, right?
Because, you know, in the closing days of any election,
every day something can shift, even hour by hour.
So now we've got ourselves a tie. Both Karen Bass and Nithya Raman
are pulling in support from 40 percent of likely voters.
Nineteen percent of likely voters do remain undecided here.
The UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll
shows Bass closed the gap from the November survey,
which showed Rahman with an 11 percent lead over the incumbent.
Now, political analysts say the difference here
is more conservative Spencer Pratt voters.
Remember them? They were largely undecided.
Well, they're now leaning towards Bass,
putting the race for mayor in a neck and neck dead heat.
the Bass campaign is reacting this morning
to this news saying the momentum in the race is now
belonging to Karen Bass and they believe
the poll shows voters trust her on public safety and other
key issues as for Rahman's campaign they say they're
not surprised the numbers changed after
a month of negative campaigning from Bass
but they say the incumbent has not yet been able to lead in
any poll since August and we should mention
the survey that led to these results was conducted
online in English and Spanish with a sample
of 2197 likely city voters between October 19th
and October 25th. So did the poll directly ask what issues
that the people were mostly
concerned about? Yeah,
a lot of people are concerned about homeless encampments. We see
them everywhere. So that's the top issue concerning voters.
Second, it's kind of tied between public
safety and also issues surrounding quality of life issues.
So that's always something that drives people to the polls,
drives people to vote.
And that'll be key, voter turnout.
So how many people in the last poll were undecided, 33% was it?
And now this time around it's 18%, so yeah,
you are seeing those undecided voters now
leaning one way or the other.
That's right.
I always question the undecided,
maybe you're just doing the poll and you just don't
wanna say.
You see how thick that booklet is and you're delaying the process.
Between candidates, and there's so much out there that's still by now,
you haven't really decided.
Yeah, just a snapshot in time, right?
It could be totally different come election day.
So the results, we'll see, you know, Tuesday.
Of course.
All right, Sandra, thank you.
And hey, if you are a part of that 19% that's still undecided,
well, maybe this will help.
Join us Sunday night and Monday morning to hear Mayor Karen Bass
and challenger Nithya Raman answer tough questions
in one-on-one interviews again that's happening Sunday night at 10 p.m
and Monday at 11 a.m
right here on Fox 11
and streaming on Fox Local we'll
be right back all right
good morning welcome
to Good Day LA, it's 7:30 on this Wednesday, yeah happy Wednesday
to you uh let's get to Maria with
a look at our forecast good morning hey good
morning you too we have uh we still we're still
on track. I'm so sorry to say that we're still going
to look at those showers for this upcoming
holiday weekend. I know it's Halloween
and I know you've got big plans because it's on a Saturday
this year, but unfortunately we are anticipating another storm
to come in. Right now it looks good
outside. By the way, it got me thinking,
the weather department actually needs to mind,
we're talking about the wettest Halloweens of the past.
And so we went all the way back to 1987,
where it was a record day, night of rain, 1.39 inches of rain.
I was not here yet, but I was definitely here for 2003.
And I remember I got dumped on and I went out that night.
I remember I had my costume on and I was drenched.
Over half an inch of rain for downtown.
And then back to 2014 where it did rain a little bit,
a quarter of an inch of rain.
For this system, we are anticipating some showers.
Right now it's tough to put the timing right on the nose.
But sometime between Friday and Sunday, we're going to get some rain.
It feels like fall outside with the clouds
and temperatures continuing to cool to even below average today.
The problems will be, again, along the shores.
So we have got the high tides.
We've got the coastal flood warnings that are still in effect.
And then that shower chance, as I said, as we get to the weekend.
We've had some warm days.
I mean, it got up to 82 Sunday, Monday, yesterday, cooled to 78.
And we actually did get some rain this month so far,
almost 7 tenths of an inch.
We'll likely add another green box here
as we get to this upcoming holiday weekend.
Right now, percentage is 10% chance,
I think, for some sprinkles on Friday,
50% chance now for that rain on Saturday, and then 40% on Sunday.
Today, 75 and dry, with some partly cloudy to partly sunny skies.
Our sunset time coming up at 6.04.
It'll be before 5 p.m. by the time we get to next week.
All right, let's go back up to Justin in SkyFox,
get another update on the drive down below.
And, uh-oh, I see some emergency vehicles here.
Justin, where are you? What's going on?
Yeah, g'day again, Maria.
We're actually in Long Beach still.
Just, we were south of that SIG alert earlier from the 405.
It appears a motorcyclist came off his bike here.
We understand, according to the CHP,
that he was involved in a collision with this gray Honda.
And during the accident, he actually slid across
the freeway across several lanes.
So, very lucky that he wasn't seriously hurt.
We saw him there standing,
being put onto a gurney and taken away to hospital for some treatment.
He's taking away the one lane on the northbound side of the 710 here.
Really slow drive if you're coming out
of Long Beach today, heading towards downtown.
You're looking at about an hour.
But the good news is that SIG alert,
that transition from the 710 to the 405 is all clear now and it's open.
So hopefully things will improve as the morning goes on.
Bob and Jen?
All right, Justin, thank you.
So we are nearing the end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
And coincidentally, every October, I go in for my annual mammogram.
This is something I've been doing now since my mid-30s,
all because of my family history.
So I went to BreastLink in Tarzana.
And this time, you're coming with me because maybe you're
apprehensive about getting your first mammogram yourself,
or maybe you're curious about what the whole process is like.
So here we go.
The first step in getting your mammogram is the most boring
but one of the most important.
filling out your family history form.
What we worry about is any heritable genetic risk
of developing the disease.
You have a history of the disease on your father's side.
He's right. My dad's mother and her father both had breast cancer.
Later in life, both my biological grandparents
on the same side died from pancreatic cancer.
In your case, you're at an elevated risk,
meaning you're above the 20% lifetime risk threshold
of developing the disease.
That means I qualify for extra screenings,
which I'll get to in a second.
Let's start, though, with the mammogram.
Right this way.
All right.
All right.
Hello.
My name is Jen.
I'm Jen.
You're Haley?
Yes.
So we're going to do a mammogram today.
We'll start off with the right breast first.
Yep.
So the mammogram.
A little awkward, sure.
Twist your shoulders this way.
Lay your arm that way.
Make small talk like you're not topless.
Okay.
But painful?
Here we go.
Go ahead and hold your breath. Not at all
My next stop is a bit more involved one of those extra screenings
I mentioned a breast MRI the MRI is a very sophisticated time intensive
and resource intensive
Imaging study it can take up to 40 minutes
to actually complete the exam. It starts with an IV
I've been told that I have good veins you do I see it
We give you contrast through an IV, a contrast agent.
And basically what that contrast agent does
is it travels wherever blood flows.
So it gives you an idea of where blood is flowing in the breast.
Breast cancer needs oxygen.
It needs blood to survive, sustain itself, and to ultimately spread.
So we look for that blood flow as a marker for disease.
I probably should take off some extra ones, right?
Yes, totally.
Jewelry comes off, blankets and headphones go on,
and into the MRI machine we go.
Here we go.
It's loud, lots of clanging and beeping,
but clearly that didn't stop me from falling asleep.
All right, Jennifer, I noticed a little bit of heavy breathing.
Just try your best to relax the breathing.
Let's look at the blood vessels.
Now for the results, which typically come back in a couple of days.
We're going to start by taking a look at the mammogram.
This is our bread-and-butter screening utility.
What's very helpful in having a mammogram,
and thank you for being so consistent with
getting your yearly mammograms, we have a comparison to look for.
So that allows us an ability to look
for changes over time within the breast tissue.
And thankfully, everything has remained stable.
So everything's looking great on the mammogram.
So now that we've covered the mammogram, let's get into the MRI.
Keeping in mind, blood flow is a marker for disease.
So on the scan, if you don't see a bright spot,
that's generally a good thing.
This is a healthy breast. Both breasts are looking healthy and normal.
So that's a very reassuring thing
for me as a breast imaging radiologist,
because I can comfortably hang my hat
on this exam knowing that you are free of disease.
And with artificial intelligence on the horizon,
that kind of early detection could get even earlier.
What we've noticed having applied artificial intelligence
to our imaging studies over the past three years
is that we're detecting breast cancers at a much higher clip.
We're detecting 21% more cancers with artificial intelligence than
what we were doing prior to implementing artificial intelligence.
That's significant.
Significant. It's a huge advancement for us
in our field of radiology, but more importantly,
detecting diseases that will ultimately save more lives.
okay so depending on your family history you
can begin getting supplemental those extra MRI
screenings at age 25 as early as then mammograms at age 30
and a general rule if you have a first
degree relative so like a mother or a sister
who had breast cancer then you start screening 10
years earlier than the age they were when they
were diagnosed i know it's a lot to take in no
this is so helpful and and you showing
the process you know as for someone who's never
gotten a mammogram it really helps
to see what it entails yeah we got a lot of questions about
is it painful and i can tell you in no way are either
of them painful i think the most the worst
part of all of it was i couldn't wear deodorant
at all that day um and that was probably worse for
you than it was for me oh i remember that day
but you felt you like you fell asleep in the
in the actual i did i fell asleep in the MRI
is that okay you can just oh yeah okay but they do
remind you so that i would say like the trickiest part
of it is the breathing right making sure that
you're you're calming your nervous system down enough
to where they can get a good image and so
you're not moving around too much
and of course it's the lungs it's the breasts so so important
my grandmother my mom's mom passed away
from inflammatory breast cancer so my mom and my
aunts have been really good about getting mammogram
and now you know that's right in my family history
so it's important to go and get that season yes
and for men you have to get prostate
yeah yeah prostate screening
and the and the prostate cancer screening is um you've done
blood right but i'm also at elevated risk too
because it's like you said first uh first degree
relative first degree relative so my twin brother had prostate
so yeah we had a doctor here a couple
of weeks ago talking about prostate cancer screenings
and i told him and he's the look
on his face he was like you really you really need
elevated screenings frequently yes um that are by
the way i should mention this covered by insurance
when you qualify to know very helpful yeah yeah
yeah and so many insurances cover your women's wellness exam
and those screenings so you know
you have them with your plan don't blood testing
to genetic testing yeah the regular mammogram is
mammogram is i say regular
but the mammogram is covered at whatever age you're at whatever age
you you need to start depending on your family history
or your actual age and that is in most
cases 45 insurance right
and if you don't have family history with breast cancer is it 45 for
your mammogram i i don't want to speak out yeah i'm guessing
and then i a colonoscopy is what age
now too oh god all i know i thought it was 50
but again depending on your family did it go down i
think that also yeah i don't i don't want to talk out of turn
so yeah i would look that up for sure
We're definitely getting closer to those ages.
That's all I know.
That's all I know.
Either we're getting closer or they're coming down.
Maybe both.
Thank you, Jen.
Of course.
So helpful, spread awareness.
All right, let's jump into some entertainment.
Sponsored by Yarmouth Resort and Casino.
And let me just tell you both,
our viewers had a lot to say regarding this poll.
Oh how do you feel about nepotism?
Here's what you say so far.
38.
Oh, okay.
if talent and work ethic 38
though second place say against it need to earn it but don't worry
bob 11 percent side with you and they say all
for it why not bring them on bring them on i say all for it if
you work you know yeah if he's just handed to you
then true you need to work for it there is a catch
uh dawn in redondo beach says opportunity in life is all about
who you know first it is i mean it
kind of is right i hate to say it
but it is it is and less about you know sometimes less about who
you know and more about who knows you oh yeah jen
from Rosita everyone telling you to network is
telling you to emulate nepotism why deny anyone
of their genuine connections right the world is
filled with capable people
so why not hire a capable person you're related to dip into your
community your own dip into your community i mean people
in any sector in any business is going to
you know use their connections. What about somebody if I ask you
this what about somebody who doesn't have
any kind of connections but has the work ethic
and has the talent to back it up, are you saying
they don't deserve as much
of a chance? No, of course they deserve. I'm sorry, Chris from Santa
Ana, we'll get to you, Chris
but we'll get it next time. Of course they deserve a chance
but how do you get your foot in the door
and you you always say it all the time, it's your network
What is LinkedIn? LinkedIn is like extending
your network. Shouldn't depend on the uterus you were
um yeah you come out, well what keeps you in the door
is your work ethic. Um, can we show Chris's comment
Yeah, we don't want to leave Chris out.
We had Chris up there.
He had a lot to say.
He did.
Chris in Santa Ana, what'd you have to say?
We appreciate you.
All right, never mind.
Chris, come here again.
Chris of the show.
We'll eventually get to you, Chris.
We will.
LA.com slash vote.
We'll get you later, Chris.
Yeah.
Maybe if you knew someone here, Chris, today.
Now, we all know the little drummer boy, right?
And now a new movie puts a dramatic spin on this classic story.
Drummer Boy is set during the American Revolution
and follows two brothers who end up on opposing
sides. My brother, he's a drummer boy sir on the other side
then he's made his choice
and so have you, you will wield the sword against
your brother or die for disobeying an order, no matter
what happens we'll always be brothers here to talk
about it we've got Joel and Luke Smallbone aka
The Grammy-winning duo for King and Country.
Wow, this movie really is a family affair.
Can you guys talk about working together?
What does each of you bring to the table that maybe the other one,
it's not their biggest strength?
Yeah, good question.
Well, hey, great to be with you.
My wife is a California SoCal girl, so we love you guys.
We support you guys.
Oh, thank you.
We are brothers from the same mother.
My brother Ben co-directed it with me as well.
And the film is really kind of meant, it's Hamilton meets Pride
and Prejudice meets Greatest Showman meets The Patriot.
It's just marrying all of these different worlds into one.
It's really about two brothers who end up
on opposite sides of the battlefield.
And what's really cool about sort of our dynamic as three brothers is,
you know, we've all ended up, even before this project,
on different ideological, different spiritual,
different relational sides of life's battlefield.
And in many ways, this film was a hallmark for us,
a precipice moment of us kind of coming back to each other and going,
let's tell this story about two brothers
who are finding their way back to each other, while we
as brothers in many ways are finding our way back to one another.
Oh, I love that.
And Luke, I saw your nine-year-old
son is a future film critic, by the way.
We're talking about Leo.
I saw that he gave a solid review
because it is a family affair in terms of the audience
too.
Even though the rating is PG-13, it is good for all ages, right?
According to Leo.
That's right.
Yeah, according to Leo.
Leo is our third son and he's a character.
And so if you go online,
there's a little bit of a review that he gives of the film.
He calls it the greatest musical that he's ever seen.
Wow.
It's the only one he's ever seen.
It's pretty fun because all of the kids are actually,
I have a very small cameo.
If you look very closely, I'm in there.
I saw it on your social media and your kids too.
Our poll question of the day is all about kids of famous celebrities
and working in the business.
And I love that when you asked your kids if they want to be actors,
they said, no, the days are too long.
Apparently, I got to toughen them up a little bit.
When I saw that, I was like, hey,
you're actually answering this incorrectly.
No, actually, they're answering it correctly.
They are, honest.
Look, one of the things that I love about this film
is it's teaching our kids what it means to actually forgive.
At the end of the day, you are going to be hurt in life.
It's a Christmas musical that is talking about forgiveness.
Forgiveness can be revolutionary in people's lives.
And one of the things that's very, very cool
is we actually have a great gift for people here with the film.
We do.
Amanda, do we have a second to share about this first Christmas gift?
Joel, Luke, I have more than a second.
Tell me.
Oh, okay.
Well, look.
Don't take too much time, Joe.
You know, we are musicians, but I need to let everyone know there
were some great actors as part of this.
We have your very own, who's a SoCal girl as well,
Melora Harden, who plays Jan Levinson in The Office.
We have Yohan Griffin, who's Mr. Fantastic.
We had Ian Glen from Game of Thrones and so on.
But the Christmas gift, the Christmas gift is this.
You know this well, being in L.A.,
that the opening weekend is the most important weekend for box office.
So we got together with the film studio and we said,
what if nationwide we give everyone a BOGO?
Do you know this terminology?
Buy one, get one, baby.
I love it.
Buy one, give one.
Literally, if you go to angel.com forward slash drummer boy
and the promo code is gift,
you grab your own ticket and grab a family member or friends.
And just know this.
It's only for opening weekend.
So, Amanda, if you're going to go.
I think she's going.
Yeah.
Yeah, we're getting percussion in the discussion
for the box office, and we're doing it
That's a good way to say it percussion
in the box office. Yeah, there we go
Thank you both so much Joel and Luke for sharing this story
and your time, can we ask somebody quickly
Yeah, how was your, how was you said you'd like, California?
How was your performance at the Greek theater?
Man we just became friends. Thank you so much
It was our first time ever
first time ever wow my wife's in my first date ever
was actually walking up from basically the
Greek area to uh the Griffith Observatory
and so i got to take her up there again and we just sat
on that bench we see the Hollywood sign
and the observatory in downtown LA and i was like what a moment
it was a magical magical night um yeah i
was sad we didn't have this interview before because you
guys could have come we weren't friends then
but we are now can we have this in your next interview
be in person here on our on our set we would love
that yeah come visit us we would love to do that
in the meantime you can see us in the cinemas that's right
because Drummer Boy opens nationwide
in theaters november 6th don't forget if you buy
your tickets like they said at angel.com
slash drummer boy
and you put that promo code gift it's buy one get one free so thank you
Thank you both so much and the happiest of holidays
and congratulations on the project.
All right, thank you guys for the time, we appreciate it.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Who's the sponsor?
Yeah, from two Australians to another Australian.
Hello, Justin.
Yeah, good day.
Bob and Jen, it's a Halloween act up here.
This traffic is sponsored by Jacoby and Meyers above Long Beach,
making our way back towards
Van Nuys.
Just be aware today that PCH shut down between 9 and 2 p.m.,
Warner Avenue and Anderson.
Now let's have a look at some other traffic hotspots.
I've been hit by a semi truck on the freeway
and I was going 60 miles an hour.
When I knew I had an injury,
I was nervous about dealing with the insurance company.
Without the resources of Jacoby and Myers,
I wouldn't be to the place I am today.
Thank you, Jacoby and Myers.
And welcome back to you.
I'm meteorologist Maria Cubon.
Good day LA weather is brought to you by My Home Sold It
is a pretty nice start to our Wednesday
we've got a few clouds out there if you
are traveling today maybe trying to get ahead of
the holiday this weekend or getting away
from that rain chance for us we are looking at about
62 degrees today New York City we have some showers moving out
into the Pacific Northwest
and Canada 53 in Seattle this afternoon
to a warmer 87 in Phoenix we do have a couple of
weather systems I'm watching.
This is one of the computer models that I have been watching all
week. If you pay attention to these kinds
of computer modeling information, this is the
European model, which is typically really good
at forecasting these storm systems that come out of
the North Pacific.
But this one is a tougher one to really track because it's coming from
the Central Pacific area.
It's going to tap into this more moist, unstable air mass from the
Southwest. By Friday, look at the timestamp,
we're going to get some light, light sprinkles,
or this could just mean some cloud cover that's moving in on Friday,
but light sprinkles at best.
Now, as we watch these two weather systems kind
of converge across the Southwest,
we look at the chance for some showers here,
mostly light through Saturday evening. I know,
just in time for trick-or-treating,
and then that low moves out of here by late Sunday. We should be
looking at clearer weather Monday,
some slightly warmer temperatures as we look for a slight
offshore flow. So that's one computer model.
How much rain we can expect? I'll get to another
one just to kind of show you.
But I do want to remind you about this weekend. There's
a silver lining to all of this because Halloween is on a Saturday.
We do have daylight saving
time ending coincidentally the day after.
So that means we actually do get an extra
hour of fun on Saturday night we set
our clocks back an hour before we go to bed
and then also we like to remind you about the sunset
and sunrise times changing it'll be 6 12
will be the new sunrise
and the new sunset by Sunday evening will be 4 59 so it'll be a lot
earlier also want to remind you to just change
those batteries on the smoke alarms save yourself
the headache of hearing that beeping
and just change those batteries this weekend here's the
other model that I was talking about this is the GFS
and we look at a little less in the way of
that rainfall maybe some sprinkles as I said on Friday
and then perhaps late Sunday into Sunday
we could get about a quarter of an inch of rain maybe
a little bit more out towards the mountains
and the foothills six or seven tenths of an inch
of rain maybe four tenths of an inch of rain here
in Huntington Beach. Speaking of the beach
with these storms nearby that's going to generate a
swell out of the south and the west
so that's going to exacerbate some of the problems here
along the shores i do look at the high tides will
be the highest today into tomorrow so we do have
those coastal flood warnings through tomorrow
but because of these swells that continue to move in
we're going to continue to see some minor flooding along
the coast we'll wait and see if that gets
extended but for now those coastal flood alerts
will continue through tomorrow 73 today along the
coast 72 tomorrow staying dry those sprinkles uh chances of it friday
and then that rain chance
saturday into sunday i know for halloween just have
that umbrella handy okay when you're out
trick or treating 75 for downtown la today cooling
to the 60s on saturday up into the valley locations
the inland empire 76 today mostly to partly sunny skies
and then we'll get down to the 60s on
saturday so we're definitely
on this cooling trend it feels like fall 61 up into the mountains
this afternoon really chilly overnight
and low temperatures and then we'll get down to just the
40s as we get to saturday sunday 73 in the high desert
with some shower chances there as well
that 30 percent on saturday low desert areas 84 degrees cooling
to 75 on sunday with greater chances for
showers there 60 percent all right let's
do some tv shout outs before you walk out the door oh
