Video Summary
AI GeneratedThis news and lifestyle broadcast covers the passing of civil rights icon Dolores Huerta, severe coastal flooding in Southern California, and a variety of human-interest stories. The program also explores culinary entrepreneurship, psychological trends like the \"Wednesday Effect,\" breast cancer screening advancements, Halloween toy trends, and professional development tips.
We begin this hour with breaking news.
Dolores Huerta, labor leader, feminist and civil rights
icon, has passed away at 96 years old.
Her family says she died at home today. She co-founded the
United Farm Workers, helping win contracts,
health benefits and stronger protections for
farm workers. Her rallying cry, Sí Se Puede,
inspired generations to organize and demand
change. Governor Gavin Newsom spoke hours ago,
touching on Huerta's decision to speak out
on Cesar Chavez's sexual assault
and rape she says she was victim to but she says she will
be remembered as an icon more than anything
and what's so difficult is um you know i i can't
imagine what she's gone through in those last few months
with the revelations around Cesar
and how hard that must have been for her in these last few months
and and so i i you know
she's been such a ubiquitous part
of our lives she's you know she she had the kind of energy
it was just jaw-dropping felt like she was never going to pass uh
and so you know it just that you
know we just have to absorb her contributions
her energy her her passions and her contribution to
this world not just to farm workers uh and to causes large
and small and people and organizations
but she was uh she was she's she's a legend she was a legend
and uh we'll miss her absolutely a
legend. Huerta was, again, 96 years old.
A cause of death has not yet been released, and joining us
to talk about her life and legacy is Vanessa Aramayo,
president of the Alliance for a Better
Community. Thank you so much for joining us.
Thank you for having me. Tell us how you know her and
her legacy, what you're thinking about today
as you hear the news of her passing. Absolutely.
So I first met her over 20 years ago when we were doing an event,
a Latino event, in a small city here in L.A. County.
And we were celebrating Latinidad.
It was a strong community.
And I never thought that Dolores Huerta would show up
to our small community event that was elevating Latino history
and Latino heritage and pride.
But sure enough, she came.
And over the next 20 plus years that I've known her,
that has been what has been her M.O.
Dolores Huerta has continued to show up
for our issues around social justice, workers' rights, women's rights.
Her passing is a huge loss for the Latino community,
but also a huge loss for this country.
She definitely shows up and speaks up.
I've seen her at many rallies.
She's always contributing
and fighting for whatever causes move her and supports so many people.
She comes to these events like a rock star, as you know.
But at the same time, she gives individual attention
and she is so present to everybody that wants to talk to her.
I wonder if you had any personal conversations
with her and how she has inspired you personally.
Absolutely. I mean, Dolores Huerta was a trailblazer.
She devoted her life to civil rights
and social justice to better and improve the society for us all.
We all know her as the co-founder of the National Farm
Workers Association that later became United Farm Workers.
And she had an ability to bring people into a movement
and build a broader base.
And that's where my exposure and my inspiration came from.
I remember working on a campaign with her about over 15 years ago
that would increase resources and funding for schools,
health and human services.
And what I knew of her was that it didn't matter what your color,
race, ethnicity, sexuality was.
she fought for people to have agency
and she fought for people to know and to exercise their
right to improve the conditions of their day-to-day lives.
My daughters had the honor
of meeting her a few years ago. They're 11 now.
They have heard her speak. They saw her last year
when she came and spoke at one of our conferences
to uplift the state of Latinos in Los Angeles
County. I saw her in Washington, D.C. I saw her up in Sacramento.
She never stopped. And I think
the biggest part of her legacy was how she led with compassion
and how she had a never-ending
pot of hope. Hope for what our future could look like
and hope for the dignity that our workers
in our community deserve.
You encompass everything so perfectly, Vanessa.
But just quickly, what do
you hope your daughters will take away from Dolores Huerta's legacy
and fight for justice?
She was a true shero.
She was not expected to be in rooms and make the deals and fight and
have a seat at the table the way that she did
at the beginning of her career and even up until she
was 96. She was making calls. She was motivating speakers.
And I would love my children and
children across this country
from our local communities to across the country to
really understand
and see that these fights for social justice don't end. They're always
continuing because we can always make improvements
and we can't be dismayed or disillusioned
by what we see on a more broader messaging
or from a broader perspective. It's really about
finding power with each other being there for one another
and showing up um in small ways and big
you said it so perfectly again Vanessa
Aramayo thank you so much for your time
and for reflecting this morning thank you i'm
gonna go right now to our breaking news SkyFox
over flooding we want to show you in Huntington
Harbor Justin up in SkyFox let's see uh yeah
G'day Sandra, here above Huntington Harbour here,
you can see this is the PCH again, unfortunately submerged by the water
that's coming in from Huntington Harbour, it's actually Sunset Beach,
part of Huntington Beach, which patrols this area,
we've got Huntington Beach Fire Brigade out here just walking
the streets, the main street affected is Bayview Drive,
and the residents there are actually dealing with knee deep water
as they make their way down the street, this is the third day
this has happened for them, so they could really do with it,
a bit of a break. As I pan up there,
you can just see the residents walking through the water
and just how severe it is out here for them.
Many of them have a sandbag there at the front
of their garages, and you've got a guy there kayaking.
Seems like he's doing a little bit
of Instagram, but certainly as you're looking from up here,
it's really hard to tell the
difference between the street
and the actual harbor where the boats are. Ladies?
How do you know he's doing Instagram?
Bob is here too, Justin.
He just wanted to make that known.
Thank you, Justin.
Wow, gosh, look at all those streets flooded.
Well, you know, this area through...
Yeah, and if I could just say...
Go ahead, go ahead, Justin.
Just to let you know, the flooding's still going on here.
This area here, you can see where
the water's actually still running in,
so we're not past high tide yet.
So you can see there's a good indication there
that the water is still leaking in from the harbor.
And this area here, they've tried to sandbag it
bag it up with a bit of sand
but unfortunately the high tide is coming too high today yeah i mean
they all but expected this we had mario there earlier today
in the sunset beach area a place
that does typically flood
but we're looking at a phenomenon in a situation here that's
definitely unusual uh with the type of uh surges
that we're getting here um so uh this area of pch
of course closed uh to traffic
and uh they did what they can with those sandbags and those
bilge pumps, but it was not enough for Mother Nature.
All right. Thanks so much, Justin.
Those high tides continue to batter nearby Long Beach.
Gigi Garcia has the latest from the
peninsula. That's right. And there is so much damage here.
We're at 66th and Seaside Walk
here on the peninsula in Long Beach.
And take a look at some of the 13 red-tagged structures,
that living room, that house just collapsing.
The one next to it is actually off of its foundation.
you can see it in the back the walls have separated
from the back of the house and this
house here has almost completely collapsed
the front end of it again these are just three of
13 homes that have been red tagged meanwhile
the work continues here on the peninsula you are
looking at the workers they have been dredging uh sand from the ocean
and i asked one of the
workers to explain it to me as a layman
and he basically told me every day they lay more and more
pipe and he said basically we're building a beach
and that's what they're doing and off to the right
you may be able to make out the HR Morris that's
a hydraulic cutter suction dredge and that is what
is dredging the ocean as part
of this Alamitos Bay entrance channel dredge project it's a project at
a cost of about $11.4 million.
It's been in the works for years, but it took on an emergency
status after this coastline was just pounded
by the remnants of the hurricane and then we
had tropical storm Rachel and it's just been hit very hard.
So a lot of displaced folks,
a lot of damaged homes,
some of them are going to have to be completely torn down.
thankfully no injuries have been reported
in long beach i'm Gigi Garcia i'll send it back to you
a long beach private chef started
with a home kitchen helping other small businesses shine
every month we are so excited
to introduce you welcome back
a long beach mom is building
community through her home kitchen
and her food has reviewers going the extra mile i just drove
an hour and a half to get some cornbread savory cupcakes obsessed
with anything cornbread tell
me about it though real quick
because i don't even know how i came up with it on the bottom
it's gonna be a honey butter cornbread that i make
with garlic mashed potatoes on top and then
the short rib and then the carrots i cook them
for like two three hours they're candy oh my god
since i started doing reviews this might be in like
my top five favorite things that i've eaten
I have no words.
I'm speechless.
Camila Abdurahim started with home cooking and a plan for pop-ups.
And now her food is bringing people together
for monthly brunches and soul food Sundays.
But it is her savory cupcakes that are blowing up online
with cornbread, garlic mashed potatoes, brisket, and candied carrots.
The chef behind Cute in the Kitchen joins us with a taste this morning.
Camila, welcome.
Hi, welcome.
Thank you for having me.
I'm so excited to be here, you guys.
Oh, my gosh.
I'm so excited to have you here.
listen can you just let people get to know you a little bit
because you have a really I think
powerful story you went through a lot right before during
the pandemic right I did talk to us about
that so right before the pandemic I did lose my daughter's father
and we were together for over
12 years and it was kind of like you know what I did every day it
was family so when I did lose
him I kind of was lost and didn't know what
to do so you know I cooked all the time for my family
there's 13 of us and we always are eating we have had
a lot of siblings yeah and we just go ahead
and cook and have fun so i my brothers
and my sisters were like you need to sell plates didn't
you lose your job i did during the covid i lost
my job first they cut our hours 25 i was an
accountant i was an accountant and um they for JVC Kenwood
and they cut our hours at first to like 30
then 25 and we were still working in office
then they sent us home and I was at 15 hours a week
so you were trying to figure out like what can i
do to survive what can i do to survive i have
three girls my youngest daughter's father died
and so you know it took a while for me to find
my way to figure out what i was going
to do but then i just you know my brothers they pushed me
my sister pushed me and i started selling these plates
and then it kind of came into like a little
event type thing my friends were coming
because we always used to have dinners at our house
and then eventually my brother's like you need
to make money you need to make money they need to
you know you so people just start coming yeah
so you just thought you know what well i can cook
yeah i can cook and it's the trade learn how to cook my mother
and my grandmother i always call
these grandma's hands because my every time i cook i visualize
my grandmother in the kitchen
and me and my mom in there with her and my mom always had me
in the kitchen so was this an
evolution like it came to these cup like
the cupcakes like uh how did you come up with that
idea so i cater anyways so i
do catering services you know holiday dinners things like that but the
cupcake is something because i don't really like sweets can we eat oh
yes so i don't really like sweets
so i came up with something that would savory cupcake
that i would like and i gave it to my family they liked it
and then they were like okay let's do it
But it's a great idea because these are even for,
like, events or parties.
Thanksgiving, Christmas, baby showers.
They're getting ordered Valentine's Day, like, you know, everything.
They go with everything.
And they're cute.
What's in this one?
So this one that you're eating,
normally I do short rib, brisket, or oxtail.
This one's brisket.
So it's going to be a cornbread cupcake
with the mashed potatoes, the cheese.
And then you'll have the brisket and the candy carrot,
the slow-cooked two-hour candy carrot that everybody's talking about.
and topped with a sauce that's kind of mixed with like the meat sauce
and the candy carrots it's
like a whole meal in one this is very good it's like
your sunday dinner in three bites
the top part is so good the flavors all melt together
and um just the right like spiciness
yeah salty yeah all together at what point did you did you did
your stuff become super viral
where everybody was going like
and you were getting these giant lines outside believe it or
not these cupcakes came out like four years ago
and I wasn't really into Instagram so I guess
they didn't go viral so then we brought them back again
and tried it again and they they went viral
I clicked up with these two reviewers along with Carrie
and along with Spooky Foodies so we had
Yilta Jaquez and I mean Yilta Jaquez I'm sorry I always pronounce
his name wrong and Yilta Noah
and then we had Spooky Foodie
and then we had Carrie those three people brought a line out of
my door wow like i i came out to the brunch
and saw the street oh my god like do i have enough
food for this? Yes, did you have enough food for all
these people? No, we had to buy more and then we
still sold out. That's crazy! What does
that feel like? You know, it feels great because you know
I sometimes struggle with believing in myself
and this right here was a chance for me to start to
believe in myself and know that what I can
do, and once you see everybody else believing in you too
because I came out like, you guys are here for me, I
was shocked, like you know, really proud, uh-huh
can I just say he doesn't eat at work? Like the fact
that he doesn't, the fact that he's on a diet
that up, right? He's very structured about what he eats, like very healthy
so are you? I love it for
you. He is tearing, look at that, he's tearing it up, it's
the meat, yeah, cooked for hours, hours
hours. The mashed potato with cheese and brisket, candy carry
It's like Sunday pot roast dinner in
one bite or two or three. The topping
Some people just shove it. So what's next? You're
expanding your menu.
So I have a huge menu, but this is right now what's feeding the family
along with the pop-ups and along with catering.
Since the food reviewers love me, the catering
is blowing up, especially during the holidays
Thanksgiving and Christmas. They'll get the
orders in now. But what kind of ordering?
I saw, I'm a soulful comfort cooking. So that's basically
what I do. Here's the menu that we need to see.
Okay. What's the cutoff date for orders? So the
cutoff date is the week before Thanksgiving.
Okay. So tell us about this Thanksgiving menu.
What's different about this?
Well, I always take soul food to another level. So like my greens are
not regular greens. My greens have like,
so I don't cook with pork at all. I don't use pork,
any pork products anything with that has to do with lard
or pork and so um i take it to another
level so if i do yams i'm probably going
to put some Hennessy in there oh you know some pecans
if i do a roast i'm going to probably make it slow roasted like i
do putting Hennessy in the
greens yes and then the greens i normally put like
um turkey sausage turkey kielbasa
ground turkey and then i put turkey tails
so this like really meaty it's like kind of like
a gumbo green but without seafood deep flavor
deep flavor yummy just like your grandma used to
make so good and so this is really good i'm like he
was tearing that out
look at mine and tell us about the pop-ups
so the pop-ups are my favorite thing to do
um i cultivate dinner and brunch once a month
so every two weeks there'll be a brunch and every
two weeks there'll be a soul food dinner
and what i do is i have my favorite vendors that i go
patronize i'll pull up and get their food too
and then i have vendors that are like most craved by
my crowd and i let them use my platform to build
their platform i love it paying it forward
and i feel like i'm gonna put you in front
of some people that you might not have ever met
or who might not be on your radar
or something like that so when they come they get to meet
Daisy, they get to meet Lady Hymn.
We did something with Humble
Zay. I did his last dinner
in California. Wait, so how can people get
to these dinners? That's true, yeah. How can people get a ticket?
Do we have to be invited?
So you don't need a ticket. You don't have to be
invited. I always post on my story, and I
always post on my page. I'll post
the menu. You can pre-order so you don't
have to wait for the line. You can just come get your food.
And we're actually having one next Sunday.
Okay. It'll be Soulful Sunday.
Soulful Sunday. Okay, Camila, thank you so much
for being here. Thank you. Thank you for this.
This is delicious.
Find her on social media at cute in the kitchen
and you can see it down there on
your screen.
Cute is spelled with a K, Cute in the kitchen for orders upcoming events.
The savory cupcakes require
at least one day's notice 24 hours direct message
her to order those get you a dozen
and also also make sure that you guys hit
me up for the holiday cupcake.
I also bought you guys samples of those.
That one has turkey, right?
Cranberry is the turkey, the cranberry,
the mashed potatoes, the candy carry.
It is yummy, and it was also suggested by Bethany on me and
Kerry's post, and I did it.
Did you bring the oxtail?
I did not.
Anyway, look at him over there trying to- But
that just means you need to come
to Soul Food Sunday and get the oxtail.
I like that oxtail.
Thank you, Camila.
Thank you so much for having me.
I gotta finish mine.
Yes.
You're hungry.
I am hungry.
The Cheesecake Factory is dishing out big business.
Even as Americans cut back on dining out,
The company reported its second straight
billion-dollar quarter yesterday.
Southern Californian company.
Its stock has more than doubled this year.
Analysts credit its huge menu, high-end value,
and a social media trend featuring its Cajun salmon.
If you were curious, you're supposed to add shrimp upgrade
to loaded mash, get an extra Cajun cream sauce.
it comes as a new analysis finds home values within three miles
of cheesecake factories are
about 27 percent higher than in comparable areas random
study they're generally up up i mean i love the
cheesecake like malls areas the original one
is right there in Beverly Hills right isn't that the
original is that the original one there's so many
but i love it from like kids love Camarillo Thousand
Oaks i thought it was from Beverly Hills
no no no that's up there the portion west village that
area I and it was awesome you had Cheesecake Factory
last weekend it was so big you just take stuff
right size and it's like oh good you take them home you eat
on it I either get the meatloaf
which I feel like is a sleeper hit at Cheesecake Factory it is so good
or the orange chicken they
have a healthy menu too they do sometimes I get like
a turkey burger there yep I do the lettuce
wraps all the time so good the thai lettuce wrap
do you remember the restaurant they used to have
Grand Lux yes it was like
the upscale version trust me i know cheesecake i think they have
one in vegas too i still love green
and what's the other is PF Chang's cheesecake factory sister i
don't think so i think that's different i don't think it is oh okay
but cheesecake what is it so good mallard
north italia is a cheesecake factory oh really north is good we love
so i mean we this is why
it's still in business all right if you're already counting down
to friday you might be wishing away
more than just your work week
the so-called wednesday effect looks at how saving all the
fun for the weekend might be stealing your joy
that can mean counting down from monday saving
everything you enjoy for saturday and feeling guilty
when you rest on a weeknight psychologists
tell vice that packing friends hobbies
and chores into one weekend and spending sunday worried about
work could be quietly stealing your happiness
so if you do the math if you only look at days that
you look forward to as saturday
and sunday roughly 71 percent of a life is spent in the waiting room so to
break the cycle make plans with a friend during
the week oh make plans rather with a friend during the
week pick up that new book or do things you've been putting off
so do things during the week
that make you happy that it's just hard to find the time
but you do feel better like i think so
going out during the week just if you do something
that makes you happy you're the only one that goes out
during the week that is not true because you are always
in the streets don't play with me i'm not yes you
are no i'm crashed okay last time you went out during
the week right uh-huh and what happened
i was supposed to go to dinner
and i was like i'm not going you canceled on me you did because i'm
crashing you did cancel me
but you canceled on me before work was even over because you had
double booked oh you actually you didn't cancel
me you flaked double book with my bed and then
you ended up flaking on both of us okay does date night have
to wait until after the game
if one of you lives for sports okay
and the other couldn't care less you could be in what they're
calling a sports gap relationship okay
that gap can mean one partner spends hours watching sports
planning every weekend around their favorite team
a HuffPost report looks at how those
differences can leave couples with less time together
and one person feeling like they always
come second especially if the sports lover follows
different sports year-round compromise can help
but supporting each other's interest has
to go both yeah support each other's interest well at
least you at least you have a family that likes one sport
and you do one you like i like all sports
okay but you're like not going to your best friend's wedding
because there's a soccer match
on right with your no i would i would go
to my friend's wedding yeah exactly that these kind of
people are like being like no uh we have
to stop life we can't do anything i think what they mean
is like if you're in a relationship as an example
and one person just has dedicated their lives to
that's one sport or one team
and the other one's not then that's like it's like a lot of time
like as an example if you are a NFL fan
and you watch like the double header on Sunday okay that's
the entire day yeah but that's fine yeah somebody
who may like that if you're the partner that
doesn't like it and they're just sitting there
drinking beers while they're watching the thing
that's a whole day you can try to cheer
but if you don't like it you can you're like i support
you sitting on the couch there
but that what ends up happening is if you work Monday through Friday
and then on Sunday one person is watching TV
and drinking beers and the other one isn't then
i don't want him on this show anymore
it's like it's you're investing it's
a lot of investment okay
but then after the game's over
then that partner can do what about eight o'clock
at night like the next day they can do their own
thing on Sunday you gotta work on Monday oh
my gosh another day it's fine there's Monday night
football there's Thursday football so all you got a Saturday
but i'm telling you if they can't go
out with you because it's Sunday Monday Thursday
then high school Friday college Saturday they
don't like you that it's true i'm sorry
or on the flip side if you have to watch every single
football game maybe you don't like
the other person enough that's what i'm saying
you were saying the same thing you can try
to learn about your partner's interests
it's like it's i mean
that so the other partner does know everything about
but chooses not to not to spend
support your person and the team
supporting the team more than they're supporting
you well maybe they're going to teach you about
the game and what is that what if you already know oh
and you just don't like it you're feeding
i know welcome back
to gdla plus uh i know
there is what's going
on is october is breast
cancer awareness month and knowing your risk is a big part of that.
So Jen Lammers takes us inside
her screening experience
and shows us how new technology could help doctors find more cancers
earlier. The first step in getting your mammogram is the most boring,
but one of the most important
filling out your family history form.
What we worry about is any heritable genetic risk of
developing the disease.
You have a history of the disease on your father's side. He's right.
My dad's mother and her father both had breast cancer.
Later in life, both my biological grandparents
on the same side died from
pancreatic cancer.
In your case, you're at an elevated risk,
meaning you're above the 20% lifetime risk threshold
of developing the disease.
That means I qualify for extra screenings,
which I'll get to in a second.
Let's start though with the mammogram.
Right this way.
All right.
All right, see you.
Hello.
My name is Jen.
you're Haley. Yes, so we're gonna do a mammogram today.
We'll start off with the
right breast first. Yep.
So the mammogram, a little awkward, sure. Twist your
shoulders this way, lay your arm that way,
make small talk like you're not topless,
okay, but painful? Here we go.
Go ahead and hold your breath. Not at all.
Can you go ahead and have you take a seat? Sure.
My next stop is a bit more involved. One of those
extra screenings I mentioned, a breast MRI.
The MRI is a very sophisticated,
time intensive and resource intensive imaging study.
It can take up to 40 minutes to actually
complete the exam. It starts with an IV.
I'm told that I have good veins?
You do, I see it. We give you contrast through an IV,
a contrast agent. And basically what that contrast agent does,
it travels wherever blood flows.
So it gives you an idea of where blood is flowing in the breast.
Breast cancer needs oxygen.
It needs blood to survive, sustain itself, and to ultimately spread.
So we look for that blood flow as a marker for disease.
I probably should take off some.
Yes, totally.
Jewelry comes off.
Blankets and headphones go on.
And into the MRI machine we go.
Here we go.
It's loud.
Lots of clanging and beeping.
But clearly that didn't stop me from falling asleep.
All right, Jennifer, I noticed a little bit of heavy breathing.
Just try your best to relax the breathing.
Let's look at the blood vessels.
Now for the results, which typically come back in a couple of days.
We're going to start by taking a look at the mammogram.
This is our bread-and-butter screening utility.
What's very helpful in having a mammogram,
and thank you for being
so consistent with getting your yearly mammograms,
we have a comparison to look for.
So that allows us an ability to look
for changes over time within the breast tissue.
thankfully everything has remained stable.
So everything's looking great on the mammogram.
So now that we've covered the mammogram, let's get into the MRI.
Keeping in mind blood flow is a marker for disease.
So on the scan, if you don't see a bright spot,
that's generally a good thing.
This is a healthy breast.
Both breasts are looking healthy and normal. So that's a very
reassuring thing for me as a breast imaging radiologist
because I can comfortably hang
my hat on this exam knowing that you are free of disease.
And with artificial intelligence on the horizon,
that kind of early detection could get even
earlier.
What we've noticed having applied artificial intelligence
to our imaging studies over the
past three years is that we're detecting
breast cancers at a much higher clip.
We're detecting 21% more cancers
with artificial intelligence than what we were doing prior
to implementing artificial intelligence.
That's significant.
Significant.
advancement for us in our field of radiology,
but more importantly, detecting diseases that
will ultimately save more lives.
All right, live shot from our SkyFox here. Where is this, Sandra?
Take a guess. Long Beach. No, Newport Beach.
Yeah, it still looks like the OC, doesn't it?
I think. Look at those red roofs. Why didn't you ask me?
Oh, it is the South Bay. It's your hometown. It's your South Bay.
Yes, we're down to be Torrance right there.
Oh, now you know.
Now that you've been given the answer.
Well, that shot looked different.
I was like the red roofs that looked like Orange County.
When you're ready for a candy break this Halloween,
how about some fun toys?
That's right.
The Toy Association's Rachel Griffin is here with a few
of this year's best spooky toys for every age.
Good morning.
Good morning.
How are you?
You're so festive.
Thank you.
I try to get in the spirit of things because it's play, right?
So you can't go wrong.
Yes, you look great.
I'm going to order these.
Yeah, they're good little accessories.
These are so fun.
They are so cute.
All right, let's talk toys, though.
Yes, absolutely.
So I want to start it off.
So this is what we call Bones in a Box.
So it comes with a book and a toy.
Okay.
And it's really cute because everything is completely Halloween-themed.
Even our little Mr. Bones here,
he is 10.31 inches tall, so October 31st.
So everything is Halloween-themed.
And he's got even cute little hearts in his nose and in his chest.
And if you put his hands together, it'll make a heart as well.
So it's all about love and embracing everything.
But he also glows in the dark in a warm glowing.
So it's not spooky and super scary while he is a skeleton.
And it's a great little book.
So it's a great way for families to engage with each other,
have story time, cuddle time, you know,
can do pranks with him and all these kind of little fun things.
It's great.
So the next one I want to say is this is Miniverse World.
So MGA has done great with these unboxing
and these little spectacular balls.
So it's absolutely fantastic.
So this one is the Halloween version.
So you're gonna get a lots of different surprises inside.
We have vampire blood and we have jelly brains and things like that.
So you're not sure which one you're gonna get inside.
There's all surprises.
And again, you can build out your all little ingredient section here.
I feel like this one needs to turn so the camera can see the details.
But also these are all good toys
for if you're doing the switch witch, right?
Is that kind of the thing like we're going for?
Trunk or treat, things like that.
Yeah, so you can have these little ones that are all instead of candy.
The price points are so perfect for a lot of these items.
So again, it's super, super fun.
Or even booing people, you know.
Oh, yes.
The boo bags.
The boo bags.
Yes.
I love it.
So the next one we have is Magna-Tiles.
So Magna-Tiles is a staple in anybody's toy box.
They're great.
It's so great.
So this is the spooky piece.
So this is the travel set.
So this is a 24-piece set.
You can make pumpkins, you can make a haunted house, anything you want.
And I love it because it's travel size.
So this is a metal tin.
So one, not only do all the pieces are contained in that,
but it's metal so you can do it in
your lap in the car or anything like that. I love a good cleanup.
And even if you're out trick-or-treating,
some kids get overwhelmed. Bring it with you in your
bag because it's so small and portable.
Have them sit on the side of the stoop and play with
it to chill out a little bit before they go
on to the next house trick-or-treating. It is awesome.
Something that's going to make a mess. Step on it.
Yeah, this one may hurt your tippy toes a little bit
if you step on it. But this is the Lego,
and this is fantastic because wreath season is coming.
And who says wreaths have to be just for
the super, super holidays, right?
So Halloween is getting a little love from Lego,
And this is an awesome, awesome set.
It's so cute.
And I love it because we do have it for 12
and older because it is pretty eccentric.
But again, when you're done with it, you can hang it on your door.
It's perfect to welcome those trick-or-treaters
as they come to your house in a very fun and festive way.
Oh, my gosh.
So much detail, too, though, right?
So much detail.
It is something that's fantastic.
Because the Lego wreath
and the next one keeps them busy for a long time.
Yeah, both of these will keep your kids entertained
for hours upon hours, which is super fun.
But they get magical pieces when they're done.
So this is from KiwiCo.
I'm not sure if you guys know it's a subscription box basis
and this is awesome because you can create
your own little haunted house it comes
with everything you need is right inside this little
box completely with the lights the markers the tools
the step-by-step directions on how to build
it is so much fun and just so creative
and at the end again you have these magical creations
that your child did that they can say I did
that it's not I opened a box it was pre-built for me
this was an experience that they got to do all
of them you enjoy it more when you do it and it's a
six plus which is impressive
because it's the details are so intricate yes so they have
different levels similar to Lego on age price points
on how they make their difficulties go right
but what's this one in particular it is six plus
which is great and even six plus sometimes
they do it more for um what's included
so like a five-year-old can probably do it with with
parent supervision and it's modern day modeling
right yes it's great okay so last but definitely
not least so we do have this aged up for say 17 plus just
because it's more of a collector toy
It could be a little bit scary,
but this is the throwback to your favorites from Halloween,
from Chucky, from vampires, from gremlins
Yeah, so you don't really know which one you're gonna
get. It's a complete blind box
So this is for those collectors. And again, because
bag charms and backpack charms are such the huge rage,
it comes with a keychain so you can put it
on your bag. And it is just so much fun
And I think a lot of collectors really like this
and adults because it's the throwback to when they
were kids. So it's really, really fun
So we have one here if one of you want to open it up
and see who you get inside.
Okay, look at the little keychain
It's super cute.
Now you're gonna put that on your bag.
You're gonna put it in your bag.
Okay, so you can do the surprise
We'll see what happens
It's like the Halloween Labubu
Yeah, exactly what I was thinking.
Who is it?
Who is it?
We got gremlins.
That's cute.
It's super fun.
Again, that is one of the fun factors of playing too.
So the unknowing of what you're gonna get inside is just spectacular.
And then again, it's just a cute little plush that you can hug
with or put it on your bag and bring with you on the go.
So cute.
Fun, fun ideas.
Thank you so much.
Absolutely.
And you gave me ideas for the hair.
Perfect.
That's what I'm here for.
All that inspirations of play.
And the skirt.
Look at you.
So the Toy Association is always advocating for the benefits of play.
So check them out online at toyassociation.org.
Thank you so much, Rachel.
My pleasure, ladies.
Thank you.
Welcome
back.
Have you ever faked it until you made it at work?
A new survey finds one in three Americans have stretched
the truth to stay competitive.
Staffing company Addison Group found 36% of workers
and job seekers say they've exaggerated their knowledge,
skills, or experience under pressure to keep up.
Act a fool during this one.
93% say building a successful career has gotten harder over
the last five years due to things like AI and a hiring slowdown
making it harder to leave a job and find something else.
nearly two-thirds of workers say they have taken
on a professional challenge without feeling fully
prepared well they say you know dress for the job you want
not the job you have, yes so that's something like
when i was you know going through the ranks here
this job right he has something to say
i'm always into what he's gonna say i'm always just honest you know
because if i don't know i
just say i don't know okay you think other people
are not honest yeah i'm like if i'm just like dumb
months. I'm like, I'm dumb on that. I don't really know.
You don't ever say you're dumb on that.
Never admits he's wrong either.
So this is like, this is interesting. You said you know some people
like this? Oh yeah. Share. You really want to know?
Yeah. You ever heard of the false hustle?
No. You ever heard of the false hustle?
It's just like, it's like, you know, faking it.
Like you're, like pretending to work.
Like you're looking busy, but you're not.
I'll give you an example. Oh yeah.
So if, so if I'm like, if I'm like busy and got a lot of stuff
to do just walk faster
so just go like
that oh it's over here who does
that watch people who
got ahead just
talking louder
watch more
impressions let's go
yeah what else what
else have you seen at work that's a problem
that's not a problem oh obviously if it were
it works for some people actually it works
for some people i just can't act like that yeah i
can't just like act you're perfect i will tell you like how about
in school or in athletics like
growing up you know if your coach
or your teacher said hey can you do this and you would say yes
right even though you never tried oh girl athletics
do it sometimes when my trainer
turns his back too long i will leave yeah i don't think
when sasha asked me to do the show
i said can you
do the 11 i'm like okay every time we go
work out together stop half the time it's
too hard and bob is pushing through right i'm
not faking that i'm just gonna sit for a little bit
If someone challenged you, wouldn't you say, yeah, I could do it?
We'll be in a class, and I will just be like,
oh, I think I've reached my limit.
Well, that's not faking it.
That's just being lazy.
Isn't it?
Yeah, I'm saying I don't fake it.
All right.
Well, since you're so honest, Bob, okay, how about this?
If you want to get better at reading the room,
start with yourself, okay?
And one expert says the key to asking people something you may
or may not want to hear,
that is the key to figure out how to read the room.
So human behavior expert Pamela Myers says to Business Insider
that honest feedback can help you recognize your own blind spots.
She says, ask three people you trust how you come across.
Ask for specific examples, then listen for patterns and pick one habit
to work on, like interrupting less or being more direct.
Research links more self-aware teams with better performance.
He is salivating.
No, we should analyze Bob.
What are...
Give Sandra three things.
How does she come across?
No, I was going to do Bob.
I do think we should have, like, employee surveys.
I don't know why we don't do that here.
Well, who would we...
About ourselves.
Evaluate each other.
Don't we have those comment boxes?
Don't we have that?
Yeah, but you don't just, like, wet.
Maybe you could give people a honk.
You could evaluate them that way, like something nice.
Right.
Okay.
Say three nice things about us, each of us right now.
Oh, God.
Two.
Two each.
Is this what this show's about?
Broken egos?
Yeah, come on.
See how hard it will be for you.
You have nice.
Bob, do the next read.
I'm just kidding.
Do your job, please.
Just kidding.
Do it.
Read it.
Summer camp.
It's not for kids.
Grownups are getting in on the fun,
trading their daily routines for hikes, crafts, and s'mores.
Refinery29 reports that adult camps
are giving childhood favorites a grown-up twist.
combining campfire hangouts and outdoor adventures with massages
who's massaging these are like
meditation and time to unwind retreats right
a chance to relive those summer memories and for
others it's the camp experience they never had it goes back
to nostalgia with a chance to make
friends and enjoy some playtime without
a packed agenda i like that aren't these like i mean
grown-ups going away to camp it's more like they call it
a retreat right it's like adult
cruises yeah well i mean isn't
that what i mean it's like you know i i'm not doing that no i don't
even want to go to like a wellness retreat i don't want
to do it wouldn't no i don't want to do that
i i would want i don't want to go anywhere to like
be outside with other people like where you
know what i mean like wellness retreat doesn't mean you have
to be outside you can do wellness
inside like go to a beach resort right right
that's a retreat that's vacation well you could
you say go to a beach you go
to a beach resort like you could go and like that's like all
encompassing usually you know you can go to all wellness retreats
but wellness retreat it's like
it's like it's like cucumber water yourself
school it's like cucumber water you don't like
and like sound bath i did a sound bath for an event
the other day was my first one yeah um
did you like it i was right about myself i knew
that that wasn't my thing like i sat there and i
was like i did this i tried i tried i couldn't do it
and then the girl next to me picked up her phone
and i was like oh can we do that you're
not supposed to fall asleep no and it was a it was a headphone
sound bath oh it's because all that stuff
in your brain that's going on it doesn't shut off
when they bring the rain stick over you you know
that like sticks how many sound baths have you
done one for work so same experience yeah
at the rain stick i was like oh my gosh is something
gonna fall out of that i did i did one and only one
and it was in a pool and you laid on it and
you laid on a float that's kind of cool no it wasn't
because i was thinking i was like i don't
want to get wet right now it's too cold outside yeah i
was at a beautiful hotel and i so i was
just like i would rather just look at the sunset
