We appreciate you joining us tonight.
Coming up, we are talking about Rolling Stone's list
of the top 200, excuse me, top 200 rock songs of the 21st century.
We're going to break down
the top 10 and find out whether you like this list or not.
Plus, the growing baby boy backlash,
why some restaurants don't want you to have it your way.
Then later, the breakfast cereal
game changer. And my question is, what the hell took so long?
So those are just some of the
stories we're going to talk about over the next 30 minutes.
And we want you to weigh in on them.
So let's talk about how you can join us live in the Zoom room.
The easiest way to do it is just to scan that QR code.

just grab your phone, scan either one of them.

We'll check it throughout the course of the show.
We'll say hello to everyone in the Zoom room coming up here
in just a little bit. We'll also
say hello to our in-studio guest host.
We're talking about the JohnCast host, Intern John.
He's making his way here when he's done with the 7 o'clock show.
In the meantime, though,
we're going to dive right in and this one may
be right up intern john's alley because we're
talking music tonight and we are talking about Rolling Stone
because they love they absolutely
love rage baiting social media users readers
their followers with these greatest lists and
this new one is no exception we are talking about
the 200 greatest rock songs of the 21st century
so far. The magazine makes the case that rock is thriving,
but it's also mutating,
it's diversifying, and it is evolving.
So even if this was the only topic we talked about for
the next 30 minutes, we could never fit it all in.
So we're going to share the top 10,
and we're going to debate the top five.
So strap in, ladies and gentlemen. Number 10,
Wilco's Impossible Germany.
That's from the year 2007.
Number nine from 2005,
Arctic Monkeys' I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor.
Number eight, Jay-Z's 2003 hit, 99 Problems.
Number seven, The Strokes' 2001 single, Last Night.
And number six from 2020, Phoebe Bridgers' I Know the End.
Coming in at number five, we've got National Anthem from Radiohead.
That came right at the turn of the century in the year 2000.
number four from 2021 Olivia Rodrigo's good
for you just a reminder the top rock songs of the 21st
century Olivia Rodrigo good for you coming
in at number three from my heyday The Killers Mr
Brightside that's the year 2004 i was a junior
in college at that point number two Seven Nation
Army from the White Stripes that came out in 2003
and you have heard it at every sporting event ever
since which means coming in in the top spot
the number one rock song of the 21st century so far
intern john take a listen all
right so that's Maps by the Yeah
Yeah Yeahs which came out in the
year 2003 the article says the song has become
the inspiration for other artists over the years so
intern john is joining us here live congratulations
on a million streams by the way thank you so much
My friend, yeah, it's been a big
couple months for you. So these
Rolling Stone lists, I preface
this by saying they love rage-baiting
people. Yes, I mean, a little bit of Rico is...
Okay, so that top five, how do you feel
about it? Do you like it or not? I mean, as far
as, like, stadium songs, I think that's kind of, like,
what rock is, so I would have thought
White Stripes would be number one. I mean, that's kind of...
Everybody knows
that... It used to be, like, the rock band test. It was on
Rock Band. That was big back in the day. That's a good one.
But now, like, stadium anthems, everybody knows
White Stripes. Yeah, and look, this is 24
first century so from the year 2000
on so if you're thinking some of those bigger rock songs
from back in the day that's why
and you can check out the full list over on Rolling Stone's social
media on their website but Melissa joining us live
in the Zoom room on this Wednesday night
Melissa this top five this top 10 Rolling Stone lists
in general do you like them or not me
personally i haven't heard uh well i probably heard of them
but i don't know what their names
are the titles of the songs but i happen to look through the list
and my question is where is 50
Cent just a little bit because that's considered
a rock slash country song why didn't it make the
the list that's what i want to know all right
so it could be on the list just not necessarily the
top 10 because that was the only i only had time
to kind of take a casual glance at this but you
bring up a great point and that is the inclusion
of some of these other you know when i first saw
99 problems on the top 10 i
was a little bit surprised Amari Stone made an excellent case
for why this could be should be included
on it including the fact that i believe it was produced
by Rick Rubin it was definitely one of the biggest names
in rock production so this this really speaks
to what Rolling Stone said about rock evolving you know
and a lot of people make the case that
rock is dead and then you know you've got Neil Young
who says rock can never die the pinky ring
king is in the zoom room pinky ring king do you like
this list of the 200 greatest rock songs
i don't like the list i'm here at 2p having
this phenomenal goodbye how about you i would like to
put Lynyrd Skynyrd on the number one
or Free Bird as the number one all right but you are going back
prior to the 21st century you got to follow
the rules pinky ring king i love you i don't know
but that's number one baby we're always
and forever number one in pinky ring king's heart
i understand i appreciate it listen allison she's
a musician i know she has strong feelings about
music how do you feel about this list
and is there a song in your head that should have been number
one well first i really don't listen to a lot
of the today rock music it was more of the 90s when
i listened to it and i'm like melissa i know
i've probably heard some of these songs i'm not
familiar with it i was also you know curious about the 99 problems
because i would have never
considered that in the rock genre
but i would like to see like some blink 182 like i like them
where are they on the list they've got
to be somewhere near the top you were off by about
160 182 but yeah there's i mean look they're still going strong
and i think that speaks to
kind of like the 90s revival
and like the punk rock revival that we're seeing right now too
Angie made a good point too
Rock covers a lot of bases
You've got yacht rock
You've got soft rock
You've got what's rock
Yeah you know
There are so many
Different types
I
Look
I don't consider myself
A music expert
By any way
I like what I like
I like a lot of
Different things
I had not heard
This map song
I truly
And even
Marina Morocco
Who doesn't know
Anything
Like you ask her
About a TV show
You ask her about a movie
She doesn't know
You ask her about music
She can talk Celine Dion
until your ears bleed but she was like oh you don't know
this one she pulled it right up and
she was like yeah Billy the yeah yeah yeah it's Maps
the number one greatest rock song of the 21st
century so far do you like it
or not oh i don't have a problem with it you know those are some
pretty good songs on the top 10 you know
but i think uh 99 problems shouldn't even be in the
top 10 because i don't really consider that a rock song
at all would you put it on a top 10 of
all music of the 21st century okay there you go
yes yeah it's definitely evolving i will just say
that you know keep sounding off in the comments well
in defense of 99 problems if i may though
like Beastie Boys were kind of rock sounding to now Run DMC
when they first came out was more
rock sounding collaboration with Run DMC
that was one of the first big ones which is also Rick
Rubin on both of those so that's i think that's kind
of sign of the times yeah no question at all
Next up, the baby boy backlash.
GQ examined this issue recently. They say while baby boys
have historically been prized,
recent findings show a shift in attitudes with parents in mostly
higher income countries. They now value daughters more than sons.
Some say this is a result of
progress. Others say in certain corners of modern parenthood,
having a son has become unfashionable.
You can check out the full story on GQ's website.
But, John, the idea of a boy backlash, do you like –
I mean, obviously, we're both sons of someone.
Yes.
Do you like this or not?
I prefer to have a son because I know how to raise
a son because I don't have sisters and didn't have many female cousins.
So, for me, a boy, like I know, belt to ass is how I was raised.
And with a daughter, I know I'm going to go broke because I can't –
I mean, how do you say that, dude?
It's so fascinating that you say
that because I inherently would have thought the same thing.
I secretly wanted a girl.
I said I wouldn't.
mind and that is the honest to God truth.
But I was, I was rooting for a baby girl and I had,
it has been said to me before,
and I have heard other people say this, that having a daughter
is closer to having no kids than it is to having a son.
So basically having, having males is way
harder basically is what I get.
But I imagine, and I don't know if this is true and I know it's a
case by case and it's a family by family basis.
I imagine it's going to be easier in the beginning.
I mean, boys have a lot of energy when they're young.
They can be a little rough when they're young.
But I imagine that's going to change for me
when she hits those teenage years.
And then it's going to be a hell of a lot harder.
Ease me on the air 24 hours a day,
doing every single show to pay for it.
I coach high school boys.
I've always heard that girls are easier to coach because they listen.
And men don't listen at any age.
We just don't.
In one ear and right out the other.
Allison is a mother to both sons and daughters.
Allison, the idea of this baby boy backlash recently,
do you like this or not?
I think it's kind of crazy.
They need to break it down a little bit more.
I will say shopping is more difficult for baby boys.
When I had sons in the 90s,
I could go to Burlington and find them good dress clothes.
By the time I had my son that was born in 2011,
I could never find clothes. It was so difficult.
I'm like, why did they stop making nice clothes for boys?
But you go to the girls section,
there's aisles and aisles of beautiful pants and dresses and so forth.
So boys, to me, are harder to shop for.
Girls, it's more difficult to deal with their personality.
Once they get about 11 or 12, they turn into someone else.
The moms usually have a hard time dealing with them.
The dads, the dads can wrap them around the finger.
It can work out really good.
But I don't know.
I'm on the fence with this, Chris.
Okay. And I completely understand that.
And I completely understand people having very
conflicted feelings about this. Billy's in the Zoom room.
Billy, you know, one of the things
that gets talked about a lot in these sort
of circles is how attitudes towards masculinity
have changed, attitudes towards how to raise sons has changed,
attitudes towards like the
male loneliness crisis, you know,
these corners of the internet that are like, you know, the toxic
male this and that that it has made it more difficult
to raise a son as a result so that
is one of the elements playing into this baby boy backlash
do you like this or not first of all
shout out to my man Sean I ain't talking to him
but as far as this baby boy I got all boys so I'm
like my guy I'd rather raise boys than girls
because girls is gonna get you can't say no to
him a boy you can spank that butt go over there sit down give him
the man voice and they're gonna
obey but a little girl they're going to give you
that sweet little innocent look daddy please
and you'll be broke all right I'm getting
a glimpse into my future here Melissa Melissa's
in the zoom room Melissa the idea
of this baby boy backlash whether it's what we talked about
whether it's what Allison talked about do you like
this or not the oldest um of brothers and
I raised adopted um boys
and I girls are very difficult they change they go their puberty
stages are different um yeah
no I'd rather raise boys than girls I'm sorry I raised beautiful girls
but I'd rather raise boys than girls girls
are much more difficult than than boys are I'm sorry
yeah like I said keep the comments coming let
us know what you think speaking of things that
have faded in popularity over time
though let's talk about guest rooms in your house if you have
a house you're already a step above
but many homeowners are giving that space new purpose
According to a 2026 TaskRabbit Trend report,
people are increasingly turning their spare rooms
into personal spaces instead of keeping them for overnight guests.
Requests for home gyms up 59%.
Home saunas jumped 35%.
Craft rooms up 33%.
But, John, the biggest growth was podcast studios.
Requests surging 90%.
So no more guest rooms.
Turning it into something that's more for yourself.
Do you like this or not?
I mean, my guest room is a podcast room.
But I think when you're a kid, you think, like,
I'm going to have company over.
I'm going to have dinner parties.
And you're an adult,
and you're like, I don't want anybody at my house ever.
Like, I make my other guest room as, like, uncomfortable as possible.
So it's like if you come in, one day tops,
and you want to get an actual bed.
It's an inhospitable atmosphere.
Yeah.
But I think this is great, though.
You're making your own space, a craft
space, a game room, whatever you want.
It's yours.
You're paying for it.
Might as well get used to it.
Because nobody has company over as much as we thought we would.
I agree with that 100%.
but having lived in studio
and one bedroom apartments for the majority of my adult life
so far, the idea of having a space where like
my family could come visit, my parents could come
visit, my siblings could come visit.
I have always kind of looked forward to that. Fortunately,
we have a guest room and another additional room for a nursery.
And my wife has her own office,
you know, so we mentioned, I know Chris mansion, come on now.
It's a rental. I don't know. Don't
worry uh but that room sits unoccupied yeah i mean
when we had a baby it got some more use
because both of our parents were coming
and staying with us for like longer stretches of
time but we've got like a tv in there
that sits unused we've got like a bedspread that has you
know my cat my cat has her own room basically at this point
because she knows she can go in there
and escape from everyone else the spare bedroom
becomes you throw the clothes out there we get
my full laundry and you we don't put things away there's
a dresser in a closet in there and that's
where i put all of my seasonal clothes
and now that we have swapped into like the fall wardrobe
all of my spring shirts are in there
which people may laugh at because i wear the same thing every
day so it's hard to tell pinky ring king
no more guest rooms do you like it i mean you're always
in these vegas penthouse suites i mean i like the guest room
so that that means you have to get you
know your guests their own suite whenever people come visit don't stay
at the crib we get you
another we get you another suite
and i'll stay i'll stay in the same hotel so uh i have a number
one rule when i stay at my house
in Vegas uh make sure you always have a guest bathroom so
they they don't come into your bathroom
so always have two bathrooms at least but yeah i would if
you have visitors i would definitely get them
a hotel suite there you feel more comfortable
you don't need any more you know i 100% endorse
the idea of a second bathroom because the last
thing you want when you have family members visiting
is everyone having to share the same
bathroom that is just but on the flip side
when you have two bathrooms and there's only two people
in the house then you have to clean two bathrooms
and that can be a major bummer as well i've seen
some apartment complexes now will rent out an apartment for a day
so if you have family coming
in i'm like that's kind of genius like 200 bucks
and the empty units are used my girlfriend's place
you can rent it out for a day
so family can stay in their own space own bathroom own kitchen i'm
like that's kind of brilliant it's a great idea allison
the idea of giving up on the guest room
do you like this or not yeah i have a room it's like
a multi-purpose room and i wanted to get rid
of the bed and courtland was like mom what about
when the grandkids come because they're probably
the only ones who would spend the night here
so it's like the room i'm in now this is like my
podcast space i mean i can show you
but it's messy i have the bed on one side i've got my nail area
where i do nails on this side behind me it's
my desk where i work all day so this is that room
and i also have a um a treadmill it's a walking pad
so that goes on the floor yeah you know when
i'm trying to work i put it on um and work
while i'm walking so yeah i think a multi-purpose room
is a good room allison is absolutely i used to say you you know
when i would stay home on a
Friday night I'm just enjoying my rent for sure Allison
is making the most of her mortgage over
there Melissa the idea of giving up on the guest room do you like it
or not absolutely not do not
give up on it if I had the privilege I used to have
a in-law suite in the basement um but no do
not give it up and if you don't use it for guests
and you don't have guests all the time use it like
Allison does you know it has a multi-purpose for everything
and no don't get rid of it because you
never know what can happen
and I'm like Allison I'm still waiting for grandkids I may probably
never have none but I need space for my grand dogs okay
the grand dogs exactly the fur babies
out there Freddie giving up on the guest space do you like it
or not happy Wednesday intern John
and you can hear me okay we can hear you yeah
so guest rooms let me let me turn this way so
okay I'm not so I'm not I'm using my phone for this meeting
so what I was gonna say is like
guest room it's hard for if I live in an apartment right now
so if I have like two or three rooms
available I would have at least tried
to get to get one of my friends to sleep in
yeah like if I wouldn't have my friend
to come over here like it'd be like oh hey you want to
use my other room you can go ahead
and use it nobody's gonna nobody's using it so I'll let
them have it I would already hit the nail on the head
but for so many people the idea of even having
an extra room is a pipe dream
because we're all living in these shared spaces now all right we're
going to take a quick break
when we come back we are going to talk about the game changer in the
breakfast
cereal
space
and
I
still
wonder
why
it
took
so
long
come
back
to do
you
like
it or
not
on this Wednesday night alongside intern John
if you don't know intern John also in the restaurant
industry yes high social over in Clarendon yes indeed right
so that's what we're going to talk
about next. And so much for having it your own way,
to borrow a phrase from the 1980s. Some
restaurants are saying enough is enough
when it comes to food and menu substitutions. A Thai
restaurant in Phoenix recently reminded customers
that it will not change traditional recipes
just to make their dishes, quote, more familiar.
Some chefs say too many special requests can slow
down the kitchen and completely change
the flavors they work to create. Now, they're not talking
about food allergies or dietary restrictions,
but etiquette experts say there's a difference
between asking someone to leave a tomato off
of a sandwich versus basically creating your own
dish. So John, in a restaurant setting,
when paying for a meal, should you get to make it
a customizable thing or should you pretty much just order off menu?
I think order off the menu,
unless again, dietary or something like that.
But if it's just like my mom makes it this way,
this is not the spot for it. Don't go out to dinner.
Yeah. And it does slow down the kitchen.
everything else too is i think yeah especially
restaurants like they want things done a certain
way so all the reviews are the same
so why would you throw a wrench in that plan and if it's busy
especially that's the worst that's the worst
when it's busy or if you're at the table and
like your friends ordering stuff like please god don't don't ask
for anything special just get the
pizza a lot of people obviously you know dietary restrictions there
are whole menus dedicated to
like the GLP-1 and people want things without
this or they want it without that they're going without
bread they're going without so it can get extremely complicated
and i imagine insanely frustrating
i'm not sorry i'm not a food server anymore it
is one it is one of the most fun experiences i ever
had working in the hospitality and restaurant industry
but it's also the most i i would still
wake up and have like nightmares about it decades
after i stopped pinky rain king asking for it your
way is it too much you never you never ask
to change anything on the menu when i go out say
for example i'm here at 2B i ask the chef i ask
the creator to make me whatever their heart desires
because i don't ask a surgeon i don't i don't tell
a surgeon what to do i'm not going to tell
a chef what to do i'm not going to tell a creator what
to create i'm not going to fix anything on
the menu it's not my job baby i'm here to enjoy
and spend money baby i love that approach and
that attitude they have worked hard to create something
for you to enjoy i want to experience
it the way that you made it i you know i'm
I've joked before, I'm a huge fan of hot sauce, I have
like three bottles under my desk right now. Rarely
when I go out, do I even like ask for anything
extra? Like, I want to enjoy it the way
that they made it. Melissa, oh no, Allison, the idea of asking
for it, this, that, the other customizable... Do you like it
or not? Yeah, I agree with the pinky ring
king on this. It's like the chefs, this is their craft
this is what they do. It's offensive to ask
them to do something else
and again, it would take longer if you got a whole group of chefs back
there, more like boom boom boom, here we go, here's your meal
but we have to stop for Mr. Entitlement
who wants this on this and add
this and make it cute. You're slowing up process just because you're
feeling entitled today. So I do not like it. Cook it
and eat it the way it's made to be eaten. I have
I've been out to eat with people who were like that before,
and I suffer from extreme secondhand embarrassment.
I'd rather walk away.
I just, I end up tipping entirely too much,
almost as like an apology for them.
But what's worse, that person or the group that splits it 20 ways,
and it's like, I didn't have a side Caesar salad.
It's $3, Karen.
I have gone broke paying the entire tab rather than ever coming close
to having to deal with that sort of situation.
No, thank you.
Say goodbye to stale Cheerios.
I'm not sure if that's what Melissa is eating out
of that bowl right now, but if she is,
this is the best news ever.
The makers of the breakfast cereal have teamed up with Ziploc
for the first ever resealable cereal bag.
The new packaging will feature that resealable bag
inside the traditional box, helping preserve its freshness.
This is in response to literally
hundreds of thousands of consumer requests,
comments, and reactions received annually
about cereal resealability, the new collab
is now available exclusively at Walmart on their website
but John do you like this or not and why do you think it took
so long to do this i didn't realize
this is a big thing because i usually eat my cereal right away
so i didn't but are you like
a one box at a time and when you finish
that box yeah yeah i've been doing like the protein cereal
recently which is like that's like nine dollars a box
so i make sure to use it all but i know
100,000 complaints is crazy i want chips to don't break
and dip like that's my big thing
yeah it's like please because i want to reach in the jar myself
and then here's the deal though
and i will say this i have gotten
to the point before where i've like gone to tear open the
inside bag and again you know i don't know my own strength
but like you tear it and it just
entirely down and then it's like split all the way down
and they're all falling out they're all
exactly so like i i do question why it took someone
so long to come up with the idea
like even like you know your processed cheese
that you buy has like a ziploc seal on it so
why couldn't i can't but all right
so apparently it's fruity pebbles not cheerios but if those
fruity pebbles had a resealable bag on the inside would
that make the experience more pleasurable
for you no no because these things have uh preservatives
and additives that help preserve
the shelf life um it wouldn't make it any easier i'm
the type of person that i don't really eat
cereal like that but i kind of got the munchies right now
and um yeah it wouldn't make no
difference to me because you can take something
to cover you know uh close or seal the bag i
I usually take a ponytail holder to close the bag if I break it.
But, yeah, no, it wouldn't make any difference to me
because of all the ingredients that it has in there.
And I'm not a sponsor, and I don't agree with a lot of the ingredients
that are going on in here.
I only eat it once in a while.
So I can't afford, you know, a $9 box of cereal like John does.
It's every once in a while.
I neglected to do my due diligence,
and I should have looked up how much these Cheerios cost on Walmart.com
compared to a regular box of Cheerios.
to see if they're trying to offset the cost of production
and passing it along to you, the consumer.
I hope not. I love that little honeybee,
and I do love my Honey Nut Cheerios.
But here's the deal, though.
I will say they're more of like a snack to me than an actual breakfast,
which is why a box in my house generally does last
a little longer than the average because I'm not having it.
Add more milk. You'll be fine.
Yeah, I agree with that as well.
If it gets stale, exactly. Just soften it up. Leave it in the milk.
Pinky Ring King, adding the Ziploc seal. Do you like this or not?
I mean, for everybody that's not a certified eater, that's great.
you could reuse it many times
but i'm a certified eater i'm always eating more and uh maybe it just
takes me and shorty one time and we're done with the box
so for me i wouldn't even need to reseal
because everything's gone baby big boy season
that's right protein cereal there it is the goal
is swole thank you to everybody who joined us
in the zoom room tonight thank you to everybody
watching on fox local streaming with us here
on Fox Five DC's youtube page thank you intern john
