Fairfax County Fire and Rescue collects coats for kids

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue making sure kids in the county have access to coats and shoes this winter. It's an annual tradition giving back to the community. Photojournalist Nelson Jones was there. This is something we've been doing for approximately 25 plus years. I was one of those kids that didn't receive a new coat until I got to high school. I like red. That's my favorite color. How does that feel? Does it feel good? Yeah. You like pink? Yeah. To me, it means a lot to make sure these kids have a nice coat during the wintertime. This year, we have over 1,500 coats and over 300 pairs of new sneakers. What color shoes? What color shoes do you want? My name is Ajay. Ajay, what are you going to do today? Today I'm going to do my shoe. Perfect. Have fun. This is all sponsor-driven for the most important people in the world, and that's our young ones. This event helps all the elementary schools and early Head Start programs, Fairfax County, their counselors call in, kids get coats, shoes. This is amazing, they do this every year and it's such a great help to our community, to our school, to the family. So, we're grateful.
