With the latest on the midterms,
the blitz continues as political heavy hitters have come
and gone over the past few weeks,
highlighting just how important Georgia is when it comes to
these midterm elections. Thanks for joining us.
I'm Courtney Bryant. And I'm Russ Spencer. Tonight,
former President Barack Obama will headline
a big campaign rally in Morrow. Hundreds have
gathered at the arena at Southlake where the event is underway.
And just days after holding
a rally in Perry over the weekend, President Trump is in Ohio.
Fox's Pete Cudahy is there for
that part of our team coverage.
But we begin in Morrow, where former President Obama will
stump for U.S. Senator John Ossoff
and gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms.
Fox's Deidre Dukes is live there. Deidre.
That's right, Russ. We have hundreds
of people gathered here tonight. Democratic
supporters hearing from the ticket running for statewide offices.
You see behind me right now
State Senator Joss McCormick,
he is the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor.
We've also heard from a host of candidates at the top of the ticket
today waiting to hear around 11 o'clock from U.S. Senator John Ossoff
and then from former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.
And then, of course, at 7:30 tonight,
President Barack Obama will take the stage here in Atlanta, campaigning
for the candidates at the top of the ticket, for Senator Ossoff
and for former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms,
trying to bring this home.
Democrats confident that they can flip several seats here in Georgia.
A lot of momentum here this afternoon.
We talked to some of the supporters who were in line waiting to get in,
some having waited for hours to get in here.
And here's what they told us.
We need to get the Democrats back in office.
Someone who has integrity and who's going to think about the people
and going to do stuff that's going to benefit the people.
Because our democracy is at stake,
and we need to be able to get all, every single last Republican out
of office that we can for this go-round.
And so the crowd is energized, as you can see, out here tonight.
Of course, just within the past couple of days, over the weekend,
we also saw President Trump in town in Perry, Georgia,
rallying Republicans, trying to get Republicans out to vote early.
And the people that I talked to out here today, Democrats,
the majority of them said that they have already voted,
but there still are some who haven't voted.
And, of course, today is an effort to get
those who haven't voted to really get out there,
make their voices heard, try to drive them to the polls.
Because, of course, so many of these statewide races are very close,
very tight races, specifically the gubernatorial race
and some of the other races moving down the ticket.
And so there is really this drive, this push, this momentum, which we
expect to see throughout the week from Republicans and Democrats trying
to drive their base to the polls in hopes of victory on election night.
And that's latest here in Morrow.
Deidre Dukes, Fox 5 News.
Now, Republicans conceding the Democrats have
the advantage in early voting so far.
All about turnout, as you know.
Deidre, thanks.
