A thousand election observers are headed from Washington,
D.C. into all 50 states, courtesy of the Department of Justice.
That has some concerned about possible voter intimidation.
Here in Georgia, the Secretary of State
and leaders across the political spectrum are weighing in.
Fox 5's Kevin Stewart is live at a polling precinct in Marietta.
And we understand Cobb County is one of those locations where
those DOJ poll observers are set to be.
Kevin.
Yeah, that's right, Eric.
Cobb County, Fulton County, DeKalb County,
and Gwinnett County are among the six counties in
our state that will see federal election monitors.
How many of them will be in the state? The DOJ
says it doesn't have a number for me right now,
but we should know by election day.
I was pretty excited. I was really looking forward to it.
Count Deborah Little among the more than 5,000 people
a day casting early votes in Cherokee
County, but do not count her among those worried about
her vote being counted accurately.
I don't have any concerns. I believe in the system.
And checking on this system at this election headquarters is what
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is doing in Cherokee County.
That's where everything is tabulated.
Authorities here insist things are good
and will remain so as Election Day approaches.
It's only had one hiccup recently. It can't tolerate.
He just did not understand why he couldn't have his cell phone
in the voting room and sort of just chucked it across the room.
In fact, she says that's relatively normal.
The secretary of state insists the U.S. Department
of Justice observers coming to Georgia, including focusing on Fulton,
Cobb, DeKalb and Gwinnett County, is normal, too.
They're going to be just dressed like me and you.
They might even have golf shirts on for all we know.
But, you know, they're just there to observe the process.
And just like we're going to have
political party observers, both sides.
And then we'll
also have other independent groups that will be coming in.
Georgia has been at the center of President Donald Trump's claims
that the 2020 election was rigged against him
and has reminded the nation he will respect
the midterm results if he believes they are, quote, fair.
Downtown, a coalition of leaders,
including the chair of the state legislative Black Caucus
and the Labor Council, are trying to ease fears and keep up turnout.
So far, there's been a 28 percent voter turnout
with more than two million voters.
We don't want that to cause any fear for anyone.
please know that we want you to vote now
that 1,000 number the election monitors that are going
to be spread out across the nation the DOJ says
that is the largest number they've ever used
