AI GeneratedChief Meteorologist Emily Walls reports unusually warm weather for late October in Chicago, with temperatures reaching the upper 70s. A cold front will bring scattered showers tomorrow, followed by a cooling trend as high pressure brings lake-effect winds, leading to cooler temperatures and mixed conditions through Halloween and Election Day.
Good Wednesday evening. I'm Chief Meteorologist Emily Walls.
We had a stunning day today.
Temperatures ended up topping out in the upper 70s across most
of the area, and that's putting us about 20 degrees above average
for this time of the year because Chicago's average high temperature
for today's date, October 28th, is 57 degrees.
And today we topped out again,
mid to upper 70s across most of the area.
Here's a look at the satellite and radars. So things are quiet now.
We have clear skies overhead that will change overnight.
We'll see increasing cloud cover.
because of a cold front that is off to our west
and we're starting to see some showers and
thunderstorms firing up right along that frontal boundary
but you'll notice here as it gets a
little bit closer to us tomorrow morning a lot
of that's going to fizzle out so we do have a chance
of seeing some scattered showers maybe a rumble of thunder tomorrow
but the overall coverage of
the rain that's likely to develop should
be fairly minimal I'm looking at about a 40% chance of rain
tomorrow and it's just going to be from mid
to late morning through about mid-afternoon after
that we're really going to begin
to dry things out we have high pressure building back in and
if you think back to the beginning of the week
when we were advertising the seven-day forecast
there was a string of 70s for the end of the week right
on through Halloween but based on the
placement of this high pressure system here
that's why we've had to lower those high temperatures so
notice the clockwise wind flow around that high based
on the placement of that we're going to be
picking up east to east northeasterly winds on Friday
so temperatures are going to be running
cooler because we're getting that flow coming right
in off of Lake Michigan that's why temperatures
have been lowered to the lower 60s for your highs now on Friday
but we will have plenty of sunshine
to get the day started then we're going
to be going back to mostly cloudy conditions couple
stray showers possible during the day on Friday
a better chance exists at night and then that's
going to linger into the first half of the day
on Halloween for tonight 59 degrees we'll have
south-southwesterly winds, 10 to 20 miles per hour.
7-day forecast tomorrow, showers, couple thunderstorms,
nothing severe, 67 degrees for your high.
Friday is going to become mostly cloudy, a high of 61 degrees.
Saturday for Halloween, the first half of the day,
we'll see the chance of showers.
But I do think that we're likely going
to be drying things out in time for the trick-or-treaters.
There may be an isolated shower still lingering around,
but I think most of the area is likely
just going to be partly to mostly cloudy by trick-or-treating time.
Then on Sunday and Monday, we have
another chance for scattered showers.
Best chance of rain in the seven days
actually coming our way on Election Day.
We have a good chance of rain on and off through the day on Tuesday.
High temperatures are going to be in the mid 60s.
