Deadly DeKalb County fire traps victim after loud boom

But our other top story tonight, firefighters are trying to figure out what sparked a deadly house fire in DeKalb County. Thank you for joining us for Fox 5 News at 10. I'm Rob DiRienzo. One person was killed and two others were hurt in that blaze last night on Lake Drive. Fox 5's Tara Jabbour has the latest on the search for answers tonight. We spoke to neighbors who told us they heard a loud boom right before that fire. Now, those same neighbors told us it's heartbreaking to know that someone lost their life in the fire. A huge fire tore apart this home on Lake Drive in DeKalb County. My sister came and got me and said she heard somewhat like an explosion or something. James Hoffa, who lives nearby, says he went outside to see what was going on. A huge pillar of fire coming from over here. And then about five minutes later, the whole fire department showed up. We stayed and watched the fire until we knew it was safe for us to not have to... At some point, it was dubious whether or not, you know, we needed to evacuate. The DeKalb County Fire Rescue says when firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke throughout the entire home. They say two people were injured in the backyard and taken to the hospital. Those two people told firefighters that someone else was in the house and firefighters found that person inside. Unfortunately, it was already too late. That is sad because we thought we honestly thought while it was happening that no one was there, you know, because of how like how rapidly the fire, you know, spread, you know, I can say, you know, it's it's it's terrible knowing that, you know, someone did lose their life. Hoffa says he was worried that the fire would spread because there are so many trees and it's very dry. He's thankful that firefighters were able to get to the home quickly and put out the fire. But he says the family is at the top of his mind. To the family, I'm sorry. It's a terrible loss of life for no particular reason. And the cause of that fire is still under investigation. We'll keep you updated as we learn more. Reporting in Stone Mountain, Tara Jabbour, Fox 5 News.
