James Coffman World News Report today.
Comet visible to the naked eye is on the way.
A visitor from the outermost reaches of the solar system
is about to become a naked eye object.
Introducing Comet Pan-STARRS C/2025 R3.
Michael Yeager and Jill Riemann photographed
the comet magnitude 0.78.
This was from Austria.
The comet's brightness has increased significantly in recent weeks.
The lower the number, i.e. plus 1 or negative 3,
the easier the comet is to see with the naked eye.
The comet's brightness has increased significantly in recent weeks.
One week after the full moon in April,
it will become visible to the naked eye.
This means we should be able
to see Pan-STARRS C/2025 R3 on about the 7th of April.
In just a couple of weeks, folks, with no visual assistance whatsoever.
It's going to be a freak show.
We're also going to be able to see it on all of NASA's equipment,
where it's going to really be impressive.
Discovered by the Pan-STARRS survey in September 2025,
the comet is diving towards its closest approach to the Sun
at exactly 0.5 AU,
or half the distance between Earth and the Moon.
This will be on April 19th,
bringing it well inside the orbit of Venus.
If current trends continue,
the comet could brighten to a magnitude plus 2,
and it would be easily seen by the naked eye
and be able to be photographed in the pre-dawn sky.
Let's not forget, this means the comet will be visible
during the days that the astronauts plan to return to our moon,
which I believe is scheduled for April 14th tentatively.
The comet's brightness will receive
a further boost on April 24th and 25th
when it passes almost directly between Earth and the Sun.
The process is called forward scattering.
Sunlight passes through the comet's dusty atmosphere.
This could mean that the comet could
be amplified a hundredfold or more.
Wow.
Some sight on, well, NASA and NOAA's equipment.
We won't be able to see the April 24th surge from Earth.
The comet will be too close to the sun.
But coronagraphs on board the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory,
SOHO, and STO will have a great view
of what could briefly become a truly magnificent object.
Let the shows begin.
This promises to be a great April, based on the above two events alone.
Thank you.
Please give us a thumbs up.
Please share our video.
And, ladies and gentlemen, don't forget to look to the skies around
April 14th for a comet that's supposed to be visible to the naked eye.
Because remember, anything's possible in Bizarro World.
