An X1.5 class solar flare from sunspot AR4405 erupted on March 30th, causing a strong R3 radio blackout across Southeast Asia and Australia. The event produced a massive, fast-moving coronal mass ejection (CME) likely directed toward Earth, which the presenter suggests could potentially disrupt or cancel the scheduled Artemis moon mission on April 1st.
James Kaufman, World News Report Today.
Growing sunspot AR4405
that is now beta gamma erupted again late on March 30th,
producing an X1.5 class solar flare.
NASA's Solar Dynamic Observatory captured the hours-long explosion.
They're calling it an extremely long event.
Extreme ultraviolet radiation from the flare ionized
the air above Southeast Asia and Australia,
causing a shortwave radio blackout in those locations.
Ham radio operators may have noticed loss
of signal at all frequencies below 30 MHz.
Of greater interest, and we'll take a look at the CME
on LASCO C3, there was a CME hurled from the long-term X-Flare.
The explosion hurled a fast
and massive coronal mass ejection into space,
and it most probably has an Earth-directed component to it.
Confirmation awaits fresh data from SOHO coronographs.
Ladies and gentlemen, this looks like the perfect Artemis killer.
In other words, no moon flight on the first.
How convenient.
All right, heading over to GOES-19 X-ray flux.
It's like it was only in X-ray territory for about an hour.
It's like it was in M-territory, well, I would say,
for at least one, at least three to four hours there.
So it was a fairly long-term eruption.
The one we had the other day was seven hours long in M-territory.
But again, this was an X-1.5 solar flare.
and well that's significant and i said it did hurl a large cme
which is clearly visible on LASCO
C3 which we're about to take a look at no it did come out
with a warning this looks like it peaked
at 320 UTC time ladies and gentlemen that's why we were doing our live
and that's gonna be this
afternoon after three o'clock
so although they say it occurred on the 29th here UTC wise it
occurred on the 30th
and you can see 318 is here the time that they're using i said 320
this is the very peak of the flare uh here we
go march 30th 2026 created an r3 radio blackout
which is a very strong radio blackout
They are confirming it was from region
for sunspot group AR4405
That is beta gamma currently
It's like it wants to become even more complex,
maybe a delta class sunspot soon
Solar flares, an eruption of energy
measured in X-ray flux,
flares this magnitude in and around a solar maximum
are generally not common,
although not necessarily unusual.
Solar flares of this magnitude can be impulsive,
meaning quick to rise and decrease,
although this one lasted for several hours
They have a very large coronal mass ejection
leaving our sun on Lasco C3
This must be just in time to kill
the Artemis launch on April Fool's Day.
They fooled you again, right?
an x 1.5 they haven't assigned the sunspot region
but we know it happened at about 319 utc time
and it came from sunspot region 4405 most complex sunspot
that we currently have we currently have
a 10 percent chance of having an x class event
that ship just sailed i will say we didn't have an m class
event all day we have a 45 percent chance of having an m-class solar flare
and a 99 percent chance of having
a c-class solar flare running
a healthy c baseline i would expect more flaring from this sunspot
than from from the other sunspots
as well throughout the day there's i believe nine
sunspots that are earth facing currently all right taking
a look at our star here goes solar ultra
violet imagery 191 angstroms this is GOES 19 the latest
and greatest here is our event here and you
can see it pop off and i guess we have well i
don't know what's eclipsing this instrument it
could be the earth during this time of year
because they put the new chronograph only 220
miles above Earth.
On the old chronographs, we're at Lagrange point one, a million miles,
or four times as far as the moon, i.e. they never got eclipsed.
This one should be eclipsed every
day, but they say it'll only happen during two periods for the year,
which makes zero sense,
by the way. This, of course, happens to be one of them, the equinoxes.
Please draw that up for me.
This one's on our GOES-19 satellite that's really a satellite
that's put together to do weather forecasting on Earth, on Earth.
But they put the chronograph on this one this time.
We have a chronograph on SOHO and STEREO, and they're much more superior.
Let's hope that we continue to have access to those.
We also have a coronal hole that everyone can see here
that will soon be Earth-facing.
We're probably looking at at least 72-plus hours
for those solar winds hit Earth.
So there is a chance of a one-two combo,
but it looks like the winds will be coming in a little bit later.
They said that this was an extremely fast-moving coronal mass ejection.
And when they state that, they're usually talking about 1,200
kilometers per second to maybe 1,400 kilometers per second.
These winds are probably closer to 700 to 800 kilometers per second,
and it's not a huge coronal hole.
Over to HMI Intensigram, there's 4405 coronal holes right about here.
Some of these sunspots look like they're trying to become more complex,
I wouldn't pass this off as not becoming
a Delta-class sunspot very soon.
It will be facing Earth for at least the next seven to eight days.
It takes about 12 days for a sunspot
to transit the Earth-facing side of the sun.
I want everyone to listen to me
because we're all going to learn something here.
A sunspot near the equator takes about 24.5
to 25 days to go all the way around our star.
You would think it would be a shorter time if it was near one
of the poles, North Pole or South Pole, although it's a longer time.
If it's near the poles, it takes 30 to 35 days, and they say that's
because it's made of plasma rather than solid matter.
They're using an average rotation of about 27.28 days.
again near the equator 24.5 to 25 days i usually
say about 12 days for the full transit i.e earth
facing all right over to our D region absorption
prediction center trying to see how long this
flare really lasts it is a long duration flare watch
that time started at 21 something maybe
week earlier still going hasn't maxed out it's still going
and it only looks like it's four or
five hours i.e in the M territory per hour goes 19
and there is the major part of the flare but it
was hot before that hit for sure
so the majority of the radiation hit australia and all of asia
the philippines etc and this was an extremely long
event uh it looks like it was it's still going
uh i won't give you all the time period
but much longer than i first said um gonna be probably
about eight or nine hours uh we were feeling
the radiation from that event all right LASCO C3 has
released a picture of the coronal mass ejection
and it should be a doozy and it should strike
earth pretty square on based
on what we're seeing here seeing some plasma over on the right side of
here as well so it's definitely a halo event just
not as strong on one side as the other
definitely inbound and probably for the first
which means it's going to be a rocket to the moon
Canceler. April Fools
again. Alright, take a look
at SDO HMI Magnetogram.
This is our friend
here looking mighty
angry. Although several sunspots
here, they could produce
at any moment. So keep an
eye out. This was
taken at
well, just a few hours ago
believe it or not. It was taken at
11:30.
It is 2 a.m.
Central here in the U.S.
11:30 just before midnight so it was taken about two
and a half hours ago very up to date now they
didn't get a good picture of SOHO
for whatever reason unless they have since i've been there
this is our SOHO 284 angstroms event the one
that's usually yellow with really bright sunspot
flares this is our sunspot group
this is the coronal hole i don't know what this is here
it's awful scary looking though
and this hasn't been updated in some time it was updated yesterday
around 6:06 yesterday morning
so this is uh well nearly 24 hours
about 20 hours old i don't know
why they didn't update this really would have liked to see uh
SOHO 284 angstroms that being said
here is earth over here and i guess planets
are just about everywhere we could argue that there's
a lineup maybe more so tomorrow with saturn
and neptune across the pond there uh i don't see any
geomagnetic connections i.e. pink i will move
the moon back there might see some more earthquake
activity and solar activity over the next 48 hours based
on that lineup right there that said
god bless you guys that's going to be an artemis killer
for sure i don't understand why because
we could get a solar flare any of the days
that this thing is headed up towards our moon and
around our moon past our moon by over 25,000 miles
and back home uh we could have a larger
solar flare and well that would put them much
more trouble than if they were to be in earth's
atmosphere or even low earth orbit if they
were to take off on the first but i have a feeling
it's going to be an april fool's joke
on you i.e we're going to have a solar storm or at least a
geomagnetic storm that day
and there won't be any anyone headed to the moon or anywhere around
it with that said god bless please share
and subscribe and make sure to check out my next
video i'm going to drop it's about a comet that's going
to be grazing our sun and be visible to the
naked eye here over the next two weeks it's going
to be some show in the heavens remember
anything's possible in bizarro world
