Hi guys.
This is Warm Mineral Springs
and it is full of pupfish.
This is high alkaline content,
very alkaline water.
We're going to get down here enough to see.
And you can see the fish. It's just
really loaded.
So we're going to try to get in here.
Let me take a look. That's a molly.
that's a gambusie looks like mollies i
was thinking it might be sheep's head
and it might be
but so far what we've got is uh molly and gambusia
so we're going to try it and see what we can do
mollies are cool these are uh florida sailfin mollies
which are not a common fish in a hobby
shop or a pet shop
but they are very cool little fish look at all of them in there
Isn't that remarkable?
Okay, so what do you want to do?
Who wants to get in the water?
I don't know how mucky it is.
Probably mucky.
Well, right here is
a step down.
Put your hand on that stump
and go in.
It should be shallow. I don't know how
deep
the muck is.
Right.
work my way this way?
Well the thing to do is kind of do this piecemeal.
James why don't you get in
over here and then if the two of you kind
of come together you might be able to snag a bunch. Ed
could you get some water in the bucket
or one of you need you each need a net. Give James the other
net. Yeah get a couple inches of water in it.
It looks to me like there really
are some sheep
that in there there's some fat little guys
so it'd be nice if there are the mollies kind of uh
have a pattern like a stripe pattern
or a checkerboard pattern here i'm getting an animal
probably let's bring it up here let me look
at it looks like mollies yeah what we got
is mollies
well that's cool mollies they're good if we can get
a bunch of mollies that'll be worth it yeah
for sure okay mr fish father fish we got plenty
for you rowan's saying my grandmother turned 90
today wow is it
mucky yeah if you
can get under it
that yeah it might
be tricky doing
it there are a
lot of fish
in here
so hmm screams uh
snapping turtle in
here they like it
warm but i don't
know if they like the high minerals do you think
the minerals mess them up yeah probably
the mollies like it
because mollies are a brackish we got
them chased yeah they're scared away
already it's
a bunch over
here you got
them over
there okay got
a lot of gunk
too much to go
through there's a bunch
of them right here yeah you got a few
that should be a good one oh yeah
Kenny just got about 20.
Gamboosie and mollies.
Now the gamboosie,
you really don't want to put in a tank with other fish.
Because they're just super aggressive.
That's a nice little batch, isn't it?
James just got about 20.
Cool.
Oh yeah.
Getting the technique down.
Cool.
Yeah, they spook pretty easy.
You can get under and you do better, I think.
Well, this is a different
net than yesterday.
right that's a weaker handle we've repaired
that a few times with limited success
yeah i think we got a bunch
of how many are in there
is that a hundred easy a little more and
then we'll we'll go over
and do um we have time i think we'll go to the beach where we can get
some shark's teeth
that's not too far away
great white hunter over
there right how'd he do
yeah it does not nearly
as rigid it got broken and
we never fixed it properly
right so these are what's
called vat nets uh
the fish farmers
who have burial vaults
these are made to be the exact width of the burial vault
so you put it down on one end of the vault
scoop to the other end
and you get every single fish that's in there so they're
they're for use they're they're made
for the farmers to be able to use on their
farm they're moving their fish around
this is a hybrid use I've been doing
this with these nets for 20 years
vegetation just to see what I get. Same species.
Same fish, yeah. I don't think there's anything
different, I don't think.
I was looking at them and I had hoped that there were some
some pup fish in here.
I've caught them but it was years and years ago.
Green sailfin, right,
which is a really nice fish. They get big and they get really pretty.
Now these would be adaptable
to salt water because
they're coming in a very
hard alkaline water yeah
that wise to you i don't
know if you want to hero already starting
to do that on the top of the water over here anthony
mud's better right good all right i think we got
enough we got a little time we can head out to
another try to get to another spot
so we're going to sign off here guys i wonder if i should put
Oh, that was pretty good. Look at that. We've got about 25 there.
And that looks like it's mostly mollies.
Oh, that looks good looking.
Hey, James, let me ask you.
Can't tell what that is.
He's got all kinds of speckles on him.
He's cool looking. Look at that guy.
Oh, nice.
Is that black?
He's got like purplish tints to him.
It's a male gambusie, probably.
Now, is that the guys that are aggressive?
Uh-huh.
Did you want us to put the gambusie back?
No, no, you're not going to go through and pick them out.
Well, I meant that one.
No, no, that's a pretty one.
Keep the pretty ones.
All right.
Thank you, guys.
We'll be back a little later.
Well, at least we don't have to pick sand out of our feet this time,
James.
Yeah, really.
James is still wanting to go at it.
Did you get one more right there?
I can see you're looking at him.
