Jerry Lynn. yeah really not awful yeah that's terrible it was a heart condition she she overworked that day and and uh just went that evening very quickly with no real warning yesterday oh my word the woman next door with the birds yeah her husband died oh my god yeah he uh this week He was, like, bronchitis. They're not saying anything about COVID, but he was coughing up blood. Oh, gee whiz. Sounds like, doesn't it? He was dead yesterday. He was pretty morbid, from what I remember her talking about. Yeah, he had cancer that day. He'd gone through all the chemo stuff. But I saw one of her sons yesterday. He said that his dad or stepdad had died. Well, that's terrible. It's all around us, isn't it? Anyway, Dave was trying to reach you. I guess he will. I think he's out of town right now. They're going up to Hershey from Tennessee to bury her up there. And then he's going to come back. But he wanted to talk with you, just touch base. If he doesn't call in or dare, so let's see. I can give you his number. Why don't I just do that? That'll be easier. Large gravel, it is impossible to have an anaerobic layer, so that's what I mean. It depends on what he was trying to do. Obviously, he was not trying to create an anaerobic layer because that would be virtually impossible unless the gravel were a foot deep and he had no current in the water then it might work what else is here on line 23 thank you for everything Father Fish you're very welcome online how am i doing today well it's a little a little muggy today and i've been running around with customers all afternoon. Some of you may remember tommy he may well show up here at some point Tommy Dent is a fellow fellow YouTuber um who is from wherever he's from he's from Holland I think I mean maybe do we do anyway oh he's Dutch yeah so he's from Holland um if Tommy found a book an 1850s or so book uh in Dutch by a man by the name of J.A. Bentzien B-E-N-T-Z-I-E-N um who was a gardener but not just a gardener he was he was the lead gardener for Holland for 25 years uh worked in all kinds of gardens that still exist designed them built them out was worked for the government for a while worked on a number of major estates published widely and among his publications was a book on aquariums maintaining local native fish and local native plants so Tommy told me about this I got interested and asked him to translate some of it so he has sent me uh two chapters one on native plants and the other one is going to be on on how to set up uh an aquarium it's a book it's it's like a 12 chapter book and what I've decided to do is I've decided I'm going to I'm going to videotape these chapters in the best Dutch accent I can manage. All I have to do is keep my tongue on the roof of my mouth, and basically I can get away with it, I think. So that's what I'm going to do. And I probably will do some videos in character. And then when it reaches the point where you've given up on it completely, pull the tubes out and add another inch or even two of sand, and you will have a perfect balanced tank. If it's a little tiny one, you keep it in a 10-gallon tank until it gets bigger, depends on the size of the fire eel You want it to be able to stretch out, theoretically. Now, I've kept big eel-type critters in small tanks, and they do just fine. They really don't need to stretch out but you probably as a fish keeper will need to give them an environment where they can stretch out if they want to it's not going to hurt their feelings to be in a tank that is shorter than their body length uh you just may find them on the floor someday keep a lid on it because they do fly or try to. What do you do for swim bladder, says tiny fish. Not a lot. Not a lot. Not a lot you can do for swim bladder. You can try salt. You can try Epsom salts. You can feed garlic. The problem with swim bladder is there's a little tube that provides air to the bladder that adjusts according to the pressure of the water and that tube can get blocked and it gets blocked most of them excuse me mostly sometimes it gets blocked by bacteria and that's theoretically manageable garlic helps epsom salt sometimes helps if it gets gnarled the way a blood vessel does when it gets all gnarly and twisted then there's really nothing you can do about that you can release air with a hypodermic what that will do is make it impossible for the fish to swim normally but he'll at least be able to swim it'll keep him from floating on the top father fish why my fish scrub a cup. Always stay near the filter and he only comes up when I'm going to feed him. Well, that's his home. He likes the filter. Probably he likes the running water, the current that the filter is creating. It may be more highly oxygenated there. It may be that there's more water flowing over his gills, which makes it a little more comfortable. Something like that there. Chub's Aquatics. I have some sheep's head minnows, yay, showing breeding activity, but can't find a lot of information on them. I've got a couple of videos. I did spawn them last year. You want to put them in a relatively bare tank by themselves, nothing else in with them. You can have whatever mix you want of males and females. the males will establish a territory so it's good to have them in a larger tank i had mine in a 40 breeder a 55 would be good you can do it in a 29 but you don't want more than about two males they'll set up territories and then the female will come in they'll wiggle around and lay eggs and she'll go off they do not eat the eggs they do not eat the babies so once you got them going you're gonna have fry it's a super cool fish uh there is a there are two videos one is on on youtube the other one is on facebook uh the one on facebook has babies the one on youtube shows the breeding so kind of check them out there's not a lot of literature in fact it was interesting i had a biologist come in in the middle of that process and he was shocked at the color on the males he had never seen that this is a guy who's been collecting them in the wild for 40 years and he never saw that color but if you realize that the second you can't see the color looking down. You can only see it looking at them. And when you dip them up, they instantly lose color. So he just never watched them breeding in a tank before. Pretty little fish, really cool fish.
