Welcome to Good Night LA. I'm Christine Devine.
King tides are making a return to the Southern
California coast on Monday,
bringing the potential for coastal flooding. Right now,
crews along south-facing beaches are racing to prepare
and protect the shoreline. We'll go live
to Christy Fajardo in Newport Beach for the update there.
Christy. Yeah, Christine, and preparing them
has been a massive undertaking tonight.
We saw drizzle. We also saw lightning, but of course,
that is not the big concern.
The concern are the king tides, which are expected to come in
on Monday and could reach up to six and a half feet.
Mountains of sand separate homes from what will soon be a raging ocean.
The city of Newport Beach preparing and bracing for the king tides.
Expected to crash into the coast in a matter of days.
The city put some little things in our door,
so they kind of gave us a heads up.
Pedro Hideo, who lives by the wedge,
is grateful to stroll past the massive berms,
heavy equipment, and giant sandbags,
which could also be seen from Skyfox.
Shoring up the shore, that's what they're doing.
There's been nonstop work, so from what I can tell,
they're doing a lot to make sure we don't have
what happened last week or two weeks ago.
There was a, as you guys saw, there was a river going down this street,
so I think they're doing a ton to make sure it doesn't happen.
This is what parts of Newport Beach looked like last month
when back-to-back hurricanes pushed massive waves over sea walls.
That's why with more giant swells on the way,
the city has now declared a state of emergency.
Hi, I'm Mayor Lauren Kleiman.
And the mayor is putting out a warning.
From October 26th through the 28th,
we're expecting exceptionally high tides.
And this is just the first of several King Tide events anticipated
this season, with more coming in November and December.
Mayor Kleiman says the city is reinforcing protective berms,
clearing storm drains and adding sandbags along sea walls.
And is asking homeowners to set up temporary flood barriers to ensure
when the tides come,
they're not just relying on these mountains of sand
and of course the wedge is known to get
high surf and often draws crowds of people
who want to come out and view it but that is a bad
idea according to authorities they're asking people
to stay away from the coastline when those tides
roll in what's more those giant protective berms
are also very impressive but they are asking people
to stay off them live in Newport Beach I'm Christy
Farhader let's send it back to you
All right, Christy, thanks.
Strong thunderstorms swept through Fullerton tonight.
Look at this here.
Left streets and parking structures flooded.
Fullerton High School was forced
to cancel its senior night football game
against rival Sunny Hills due to dangerous thunder and lightning.
Officials say the game is rescheduled
for tomorrow night, weather permitting.
Wild weather right there lashing Taiwan today
as Typhoon Champi brought massive waves
to the coast from the Philippine Sea.
residents are being warned to stay away
from the shoreline as the powerful storm combines with
seasonal winds good night la weather is sponsored
by the law offices of larry h parker well we're
expecting to see our own coastal impacts as we roll into this weekend
and through a big portion
of the following work week i can tell you
as we take a look here at our satellite and
radar we have this system that did draw
in not just some wet weather today but we had a whole
light shows some of that lightning
and thundering happening across a lot of the area you can see
right now rolling uh through our 10 o'clock hour here
la county we're mostly under the dry side
but out to the east of us we do have some
of that precipitation showing up here on our radar
not just some some rain there we do have a pocket
of some wintry weather showing up across some of
our mountains you'll see most of that moisture staying locked
into the east of us making it
through what's left of this evening
but as we roll into those overnight early morning hours
we are expecting to all be on the same page here
and by that we are looking at a set of
drier conditions tomorrow does come with some clouds to start the day
but we will get a nice
dose of that sunshine rolling through our morning
and into our afternoon hours as well now we do not
have any alerts in place for Saturday in terms of the coast
but as we roll into Sunday through
Thursday we are going to see coastal flooding alerts go
into effect we are seeing an advisory
in place for portions of LA County beaches
but then also our coast westward so moving into
Ventura County as well where we could potentially see
the likelihood of minor to moderate coastal
flooding the further south you go so including Orange County
and areas uh south of that we are
potentially seeing some of that significant coastal flooding
which is that warning that is
in place again this is going to be a level higher than
that advisory there so a little bit more
serious in terms of some of that coastal flood potential we
are looking at Sunday through
Thursday for these alerts
but that pocket we'll really be watching for will be Monday through
Wednesday where we could see some
of that higher surf excuse me that higher tide cycle rolling
through the area so our morning high tide could potentially reach up
to eight feet during the
course of that alert being in effect we could see
that flooding not just across some of those
parking lots but also into some of those roads
and yes that those homes could also see the
potential for some of that water making its way
into it there we are also looking at beach erosion
being an issue with that coastal flood alert in place
as we roll over into tomorrow i talked about
things drying out for us sunshine in place well here's
a look at LA getting into that eight o'clock
hour a little bit on the cooler side we're talking upper 50s
but all the fall feel
with plenty of sunshine in place
our temperatures will top off in the mid 70s for LA but the
surrounding area we may see a few
of those upper 70s pop out areas like the Inland Empire but also
into the San Fernando Valley the Santa Clarita Valley
and also the coastline looking to get a
nice dose of those temperatures from the mid
to upper 70s a lot cooler across our mountains where
we are picking up some of that precipitation
right now Big Bear going for the lower 50s and
Palm Springs likely to see temperatures in the 80s roll
in closer here to show you that's pretty
much the bigger picture that we'll see across most
of the area where temperatures should be
right around or maybe a few degrees uh off
from their normal now the pattern through the this
weekend will be dry conditions that'll be the start
of next week as well where we are under
beautiful skies out there pretty much a trail
of sunshine until we arrive at the end of next week
so about a week from today we do have
a lovely low pressure system working its way into the mix
and this potentially could bring in our next cycle of wet weather
and yes that may also lead
into our Halloween holiday
so by next weekend we could be looking at that but of course models
do have the potential to make a little bit of a shift
so we'll be watching that forecast
over the next several days.
Temperatures for this weekend in the mid to upper 70s for the LA
inland Orange County area.
We'll get a little bump as we start into next week, but you'll see
we have a stretch of 70 degree temperatures.
And by Friday, we do have that 40% chance of
precipitation in the forecast.
If you're in the valleys or the Inland Empire, a little warmer
than what we'll see into our city,
but temperatures still in the upper 70s for tomorrow. Maybe a few
of those 80s popping out low 80s
but definitely as we move into the back half of the weekend and
the start of next week you'll see a lot of sunshine there
and then we do start to get some of that
cloud cover building up towards the middle
and end of next week ahead of the potential for that
next rain maker making its way into the forecast
and again if you're going to be out there this
weekend you do want to watch
for those king tides especially from that window of Sunday
through the following week on Thursday.
Back to you.
You got it.

Officers confirmed the girl was dead. Investigators say
they tracked down Cruz at a shopping plaza off Arroyo Parkway
in Pasadena, but when they tried
to question him, he reportedly shot himself.
We see someone getting carried off in a gurney with
like blood or a white tarp all over them.
Cruz was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
I was arguing with her.
What happened was the guy shot the sliding door. That's how he got in.
And when I went up there, she was in the bathroom,
laid down dead already.
I turned around. She was already gone.
Then the mother came out of the room. She was hiding from them.
So the mother was in the house?
Yeah, she went to the room to hide from them.
The mother has not been here. We're told she's staying with family.
Investigators are trying to figure out the motive,
but they have not been able to talk to the suspect.
He remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

First meeting this season.

in the final, it's their seventh straight victory over
the Clips at home, head coach JJ Redick
liking the effort although it wasn't all pretty

with a triple, Brew Crew leading one nothing, very next
hitter, William Contreras, base knock to left,
Yelich comes home, and we've got a 2-zip
Milwaukee advantage, playing Milwaukee baseball,
move to the 7th, now a 2-1 game, Chourio on
the attack, going the other way, off Kevin Kelly,
Cooper Pratt scores, Brewers take a
3-1 advantage, top of the 9th, Ray's trying to rally,
Liam Hicks, ground ball to Bryce
Fereng, turns the 4-6-3 double play in the game,
but wait, Pratt's foot was actually
off the bag at 2nd, call is overturned,
Ray's score run, and the rally continues, but
DeLuca not able to come through
at the end. Misses the Trevor McGill
sinker. Very dirty pitch.
Ending the game. Brewers win it 3-2
taking a 1-0 series lead.
Yeah, you know, you like to get off to a good start
and, you know,
kind of, obviously
all these games are going to be close, but, you know,
it's good to get that first one for sure and, you know,
