We start with this breaking news.
A suspect is shot by Monterey Park Police. Happened around 6
tonight near Eastern Avenue and the 60 freeway.
Told that person was taken to a hospital. Video
from the Citizen app shows the scene.
We've reached out to police and are awaiting additional
information. With that, welcome to the Good Night LA.
I'm Christine Devine. Now to the wild weather
hitting Southern California all day today from very strong winds
and flooding and rain. We got
hit with quite a punch.
We go live to Fox 11's Christy Fajardo in Hollywood with a roundup.
Christy. Yeah, Christine,
the tree here behind me will not fit in a selfie. That is why some
people have actually asked Mike behind the camera to take their photo
because people are doing a
double take when they see this tree.
One person even told us they thought it was a Halloween prop.
It's not. It's real. It came down at about two o'clock
and luckily it did not topple the other
way onto Western Avenue
and it did not topple onto this bus shelter. Instead,
it fell on a parked car with no one inside.
We're told someone was in the
car right next to it, which had a lot less damage,
but that person was not
hurt. It's a bad thing to come out to.
It's a site so unbelievable. Passersby
use it as a photo op a giant tree on top
of two cars in the parking lot of
Smart and Final on Western and Romaine.
A witness tells us off camera there was
No wind, no rain, no sound,
and no warning when the trees suddenly leaned, then toppled.
I just got my car towed, and I realized, like,
my luck isn't that bad, because what is this, you know?
It's crazy. It's shocking.
I believe it's for rain and the trees.
Look at that mess.
In San Clemente, a former mayor pulled out his cell phone.
And there was just this path
that it just carved right through the course.
Stunned by the damage left behind by what
the National Weather Service says may have looked like a tornado,
but was actually straight-line winds.
And the town was definitely battered by powerful gusts
and bouts of rain, resulting in the sound of rushing water
and drivers trying to navigate flooded roads.
In the San Bernardino Mountains, the rain came down so hard,
windshields couldn't work fast enough.
And this was the scene in Calabasas during a burst of heavy rain.
and if you were in the valley overnight you might
have seen it too and the tree is still blocking
the sidewalk we have not seen any city crews
but we were told that the owner of the Mazda called
his insurance company and was told
that they cannot come out to remove the tree for several
more days and there is another concern
because that same type of tree is all around this block
and I want to show you because I went to the roots
and I got this from the tree it does not feel like
wood at all. In fact, it feels like foam and it just crumbles.
And people around here are worried
that other trees could be in a similar state and could also topple.
Live in East Hollywood,
I'm Christy Pujardo. Let's send it back to you.
Good night, LA weather is sponsored by the law
offices of Larry H. Parker. Good evening, everybody.
Meteorologist Markina Brown with you.
It was a wacky day today, wasn't it?
We saw a little bit of everything. Now we are dealing
with calm and just a few isolated showers.
I want to take you to radar and show you what's
going on currently a big difference the bulk
of the precipitation is still to the north of us here
at home we're dealing again with just some isolated showers
the folks in Long Beach have
been seeing some on and off showers really
for the better part of the evening you've got more
happening right now Rancho Palos Verdes
also seeing some rain Huntington Beach rain headed to
your area as well and through your city
and going eastward Irvine in Orange County also
dealing with some isolated showers
so that'll be the story as we go through the night tonight and
into tomorrow for some of you lingering showers will
be the story a quiet Friday all in all is
what i expect but i am also monitoring believe it
or not a weak send and a wind event is in our
forecast let's talk about what we're going
to do for tomorrow temperatures are going to be right
about average for the most part we're looking
at numbers in the low 70s from El Monte to
Whittier, Long Beach we're looking at 72
Torrance looking at 70 but look
at how the warm up sets in as we
get into Saturday we're looking at numbers near 80
degrees some folks will make it up and over
79 as we get into Saturday
for El Monte, LA looking
at temperatures that will top out around
77 degrees so that's that weak
Santa Ana wind event that I'm talking about
it's going to completely change
our weather pattern we're looking at 72 degrees
tomorrow again for LA
and Orange County slight chance of rain
as that system makes its way up and out
but look at what happens as we get into Saturday and Sunday
we're talking about nothing
but sunshine 77 degrees is what we'll see as we get into Saturday
79 on Sunday we're in the low 80s to kick off
the work week maybe increasing the clouds and
cooling down by the end of this forecast period
but still not bad at all as we look at the coastal
forecast we're doing 70 degrees for you tomorrow
but look at the warm-up that happens just in time
for the weekend sunshine is 75 degrees
on Saturday Sunday we're keeping the sun around we're warming
it up even more with temperatures in the upper 70s
and upper 70s will stick around as we get
into the beginning of next work week as well
but by the end of next week things start to cool down
a little bit for the valleys and the IE 72 tomorrow 79
though as we get into Saturday
lots of sunshine as we get into Sunday
and Monday we're looking at temperatures in the low 80s
and then for the mountains it is cold 49 degrees for you tomorrow
but it warms up a little bit
we've got numbers right around 57 degrees as we get
into Sunday kicking off the work week with
temperatures in the low 60s Christine thanks
for that new information tonight about a deadly
shooting in Arcadia that happened earlier today
LA County Sheriff's Department now says the
boyfriend allegedly shot
and killed a young female after forcing himself inside the location
on West Huntington Drive.
The suspect is Paul Anthony Cruz Jr., a 20-year-old man. He was found
in Pasadena later where police say he shot himself.
He's in critical condition tonight
at a hospital. New tonight,
school employee right here is behind bars in Coachella accused of
sexually assaulting a minor.
Riverside County Sheriff's deputies say
26-year-old Brittany Jaramillo of Indio
was arrested today following an investigation
into alleged inappropriate contact
with a student at a Coachella school.
Only on Fox 11, shocking allegations of an illegal dog breeding ground
at a massive homeless encampment in the San Fernando Valley.
Fox 11's Matthew Seedorf in Arleta with the details
conditions inside this encampment hard to describe people
and pets shouldn't be living like this
hidden in plain sight
but plugged in a massive homeless encampment in Arleta that from above
looks like a garbage dump the moment we show up
with the camera people scatter even someone in a
car what stuff goes on down here it literally looks like
the third world like it's crazy animal
advocates say they were called here
this week for claims of illegal puppy sales.
So what do you do with these puppies?
And she's I sell them for $45 to $100
each. Okay, but they get pregnant and pregnant every time. Dogs, cats,
kittens and people all living
in deplorable conditions. Do you feel like
it's a puppy mill? No, they just need a nice home.
You know, you know, one of
them just gave birth like a week ago.
A woman who calls herself Jay takes us
inside at least a dozen people living under the road next to a mound of
trash copper wire furniture
but with a powered washing machine we go to Skid Row this is scarier
because this is underground nobody can hear you
scream down here majority of them were struggling
with drug addiction um and then
of course they're breeding dogs they're running a full-on puppy mill
this is one of the craziest encampments i've ever seen all
this is under a road horrible situation
to live it's like look at this it's all crowded
and this is how we live you know a generator sits
outside Jay's makeshift home where she says she's
lived almost two years it almost feels like a
house yeah everybody has their own tv their own um stereo
so they can hear music and i think
everything everybody has their own generator
they're living perfect down there i mean but
honestly it's just not humane
because the cleanliness you know they said a couple of
dogs got parvo got really badly sick the puppies
that was down there they died animal advocates
say they've tried getting city officials out here to help
but they're still waiting the crisis
is happening in Los Angeles is everywhere.
We go to Arleta, Pacoima, Van Nuys, Venice,
obviously Skid Row, but this is probably one
of the worst I've ever seen. We reached out to
Councilmember Padilla's office this evening with these concerns.
So far tonight, we haven't heard
back. Reporting in Arleta, Matthew Seedorf, Fox 11 News.
Orange County supervisors will hold
closed-door talks tomorrow to resolve a strike by Waste
and Public Works employees. Teamsters
Spokesman says the labor union paused the walkout as an olive branch.
Good faith.
The county accused picketers of blocking landfill access,
although the union denies it and claims labor law violations.
Tomorrow's meeting could prevent the strike from resuming.

decades into construction.

right back. Tonight, Virginia State Senator Louise
Lucas faces federal drug and money laundering
charges. The 82-year-old Democrat is accused

calling the case politically motivated and is vowing to fight back.
In Massachusetts, social media influencer Brayden Peters,

is free on bail and denies the allegations.
Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle Sr.,
is under investigation for alleged child abuse materials.
According to The Sun, his son, Thomas Jr.,
says he found the images in storage boxes at his father's home
in the Philippines and turned them over to authorities.
Thomas Jr. claims he's cutting ties with his father while sister
Samantha defends their dad, accusing Thomas Jr. of revenge.
Markle Sr. is 82 years old and living in Florida.
Developing tonight, ahead of the November 3rd midterm elections,

In Iran, a public art installation in Tehran features
an actor dressed as President Donald Trump
inside a fake prison cell.
The display is called, It is a Crime Not to See This Scene,
organized by Tehran's beautification organization.
The installation drew crowds and criticized what organizers describe
as crimes against the Iranian people.
Here at home, President Trump is calling out NBA star LeBron James over
his actions during the national anthem.
Before the 76ers season opener against the Knicks,
James appeared to warm up and mimic a golf swing as the anthem played.
Trump called James a, quote, total disgrace on social media and
demanded he apologize to military members who died serving the country.
Good evening. I'm Gerard Moncure.

Puka Nakua forced to leave practice early due to a calf issue.
After missing two games this season due to a hip injury,
he'd racked up 417 receiving yards and two touchdowns since his return.
His status as of right now
for Sunday's matchup against the Raiders is unknown.
Sean McVay's squad now in a place that most, including the team itself,
did not expect to be in.
A record of 2-4, holding down last place in the NFC West
and desperate in need of a win.
This week, they've got a chance to stop that ugly two-game skid
with a road trip to Vegas
and a physical matchup against the Silver and Black.
Trying to find a way to make a play, trying to have a team to win.
You know, I think we've got to get
on the track, get on the winning track,
get some wins under our belt.
You know, the last few weeks have been tough,
but the best thing about this game is you've got this week, right?
Every week's the first week, a new week to go out there,
execute, trying to find a way to win a game.
I guess a good team on the road.
So we'll go out there, play some ball, and try to come away with a win.
Thursday night, football Bears and Patriots from Chi-Town.
Team handing out fake mustaches in honor
of the late Mike Ditka this evening.
Great stuff in Chi-Town.
Wild end of the first half in this one.
Bears up 13-7, facing a 3rd-and-17 Caleb Williams to Luther Burden,
who finds his way to the end zone.
Four catches, 130 yards,
and a touchdown all in the first half alone for Burden.
Bears up 20-7.
But still time on the clock for the Pats before the break.
Bears in a prevent defense.
Drake May dumps the ball off to Ramondre Stevenson.
And watch him cut back up the field
and find a lane all the way to the end zone untouched.
Unbelievable bad defense.
Bears fans are left in disbelief
and their lead is cut to 20-14 at the half.
Chicago now holding on to a 27-21 advantage late
into the fourth quarter.
The Bears lining up.
Cairo Santos for the 58-yarder.
And he knocks it down.
His longest kick ever, and that seals this one
for the Bears as they hold off New England at home, 30-24.
On the ice, Ducks in New Jersey taking on the Devils.
Home team up 2-1 in the third and on the attack.
Brett Pesce's shot deflected, but Anthony Mantha there for the rebound
and puts the backhand pass to Villuos for the goal.
Another bad night for the Ducks who lose it 4-1,
suffering a fifth straight defeat.
Kings in New York taking on the Islanders
And they get off to a fast start
Thanks to one man, Artemi Panarin
Early in the first period
He fires the shot right under the crossbar
For the goal
His first of two in the first period
Beating Semyon Varlamov
And the Kings are in business
Islanders would respond
Scoring two unanswered
To eventually force OT
On the back end of overtime
Brent Clark lines up that beauty
Through traffic for the game winner
Kings roll 3-2 in OT.
Their second straight victory and second win of the season as well.
All right, finally, results to our Pechanga
