6.6 & 6.0 Earthquakes That Are Part Of A Swarm June 19th 2026!

James Kaufman, World News Report today. Ladies and gentlemen, we've had a swarm of earthquakes on the Russian peninsula on a plate tectonic boundary where we have five active volcanoes. This is a 6.6, the largest of the swarm. We also had a 6.0 pop off as well today. I will see if I can show you the swarm here. news first you can see how extensive the swarm really is and this is only going to show you earthquakes that are 4.0 or 4.5 or larger outside the u.s the usgs only shows that but what we do have is a 6.6 and a 6.0 right there on the peninsula there right under five active volcanoes. Let's get some more information. All right, when I wandered over here, it said a 6.0, and that was actually an aftershock. Pretty hard to grab that 6.6. You can see all the active volcanoes under it here. There's several of them, and I believe there's, well, let's zoom in and make sure we get a good number. I believe there's five. One, two, three, four, five, and we'll call 6. Let's see if we can grab that 6.6 here and get some additional information. And we have the USGS reporting at 6.6 at 5.5 kilometers. So, not very deep at all. The Europeans coming in at 6.6 as well. Germany coming in at 6.6 at 22 kilometers. I guess the USGS is really at a default depth and has not determined how deep this quake and this swarm is let's see it's on a plate tectonic boundary and there are really a line of volcanoes it's a volcanic ridge uh going down and there's a ton of aftershocks look at this i wouldn't be able to count them if i wanted to zoom in and see if we can get a little bit better to look you can guess them but there's about 12 total and they are offshore quite a bit but they're associated with that volcanic range or ridge that runs all the way through here and that plate tectonic boundary here which is the north american pacific plate boundary here so crazy crazy crazy so a six six and a six oh very strong magnitude get a little bit better close-up view of that really close to the coast i'm surprised it wasn't a tsunami warning associated at least the six six we'll check the buoys in that area just in case uh this is a six two magnitude i don't know which one this was was it upgraded since this occurred or downgraded all right some earthquake details from the usgs 21 reports i didn't see that let's check map 21 reports of people that felt it nearest volcano it says it's 79 miles away it sure doesn't look like it to me 7.5 atomic bombs worth of energy released here uh and obviously it came in at a 6.60 and this is the updated shake map here you can see all the reports came in from these towns here around this bay and they're all medium intensity reports in the blue and green area one a little bit stronger here probably well i would think that you would have seen a tsunami come up into that bay even if it was just a few inches tall or high but we'll check comparing earthquake data from different reporting agencies start with a 6.6 default depth usgs a 6.6 at only 5.5 kilometers the europeans a 6.6 at 22 kilometers germany a 6.6 at 25 kilometers raspberry shake australians come in at 6.8 default depth 10 kilometers wow of course we knew that was the french and a 6.19 plus or minus 0.18 and lastly we have the italians coming in at 6.6 as well at 23 kilometers so it looks like that 25 kilometer number uh is good i can't believe australians came in at 6.8 here wow let's check that buoy map and see if it just went unreported and in fact it did go unreported station 21416 is in event mode currently how funny very little movement here we're talking a couple of centimeters get some detailed information on that here is that event here and we're talking about five to seven centimeters and here's well That red is right here in slow-mo, if you will. So about 5 to 7 centimeters. I'm sure that that harbor did take a little tsunami or a little wave, and that's why you got so many reports. So there you go, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake, a 6.0, about 10 additional aftershocks, maybe more. Look at the smaller ones.
