This is very good news for the Hurricanes
as we've been waiting for this for months
to happen and finally it looks like the night is here,
a big return for the Hurricanes facing
one of the best teams in the Western Conference in the entire league.
This is super exciting,
this is great to hear and the Hurricanes now have a chance to really
show the league why they're the best welcome
to Hurricanes Digest I'm Jeff Testanero I invite you
all to like share comment
and subscribe we're over 25 we're with 2503 as of this recording
let's get to 26 the push to three begins i appreciate all
of you for jumping on board

also reminder we're over on the socials we're over on X

as well you'll be glad you did the Carolina
Hurricanes enter Edmonton one of the not only one
of the best teams in the league but they are also
eight two and one after beating Vancouver six
to three two goals from Delorier two goals from
Ehlers two goals from Stank two goals from those guys led
the way i love saying Delorier two goals
that makes me really really happy Edmonton is seven one
and one with only one regulation loss
heading in tonight's matchup
so this is 100% a battle of the big boys on both conferences
this potentially i'm gonna say it i'm gonna say it potentially could
be a Stanley Cup final preview
maybe maybe maybe maybe we'll see Carolina has
17 points Edmonton has 15 two strong starts
they meet at Rogers Place the test can Carolina carry
its shared scoring into tougher defensive
assignments McDavid enters the game 26 points nine
games Bouchard adds another threat with 18 points
you know they got to limit space um that's what they have
to emphasize um avoiding turnovers and
let Edmonton attack before the Hurricanes get
organized they have to slow the Edmonton Oilers
offense down they can't be caught off guard uh there's
no doubt that the Hurricanes have one of
the best defensive cores in the entire league
so shutting down the usually fast Edmonton offense
led by um what's his name McDavid I forget his name Connor McDavid
and Leon Draisaitl is going
to be the task tonight Oilers went without
a goal through his first eight games three goals in his
last three eight points through 11 games
his recent production gives Carolina another scoring
threat as Jarvis approaches his return um keeping Ehlers involved
and his uh as his confidence
builds builds Ehlers has been though did start
a little slow last year ended up being um absolutely
phenomenal um lightning in a bottle really
if if you will the dude is his forechecking
and back checking are just absolutely
out of sight Jarvis's return could deepen the offense
without requiring changes to every productive
contribution um scoring depth matters as the
main transition um against a team like Edmonton
McDavid's opportunities remain central to tonight's
um challenge for the Carolina Hurricanes you ready
for this i'm excited because jarvis was
activated yesterday following off-season shoulder surgery
um he expressed excitement about getting
back after the work he put into recovery official
preview says he seems set to return um you know
got distinguished activation from final lineup confirmation
but he did you know work out
yesterday on the third line with Martinuk he did take
a lot of reps with power play two
so why would they put him
on power play two I know they recalled Skyler Brendamore
and they sent Nadeau back to Chicago
but I'm just saying I'm just saying I'm just saying I'm not
Couldn't jump the gun until game time when the lineup comes out,
but I'm just going to say that Jarvis is going to come back.
Jarvis scored 32 in each of the last two seasons.
He led Carolina in goals both seasons.
Potential return restores
a proven finisher through timing and conditioning.
Remains things to watch, especially with Stahl, Hall, and Janko out.
It's kind of hurting.
so having Seth back would be a welcome change.
Not that they're not playing well.
They're playing great, but, you know, it happens.
Where was I?
Oh, yeah, Carolina with Jarvis.
Last season, Carolina went 48-17-6 with Jarvis available,
but 5-5-1 without him.
11-game absence sample.
Another lineup change.
An opponent also matters.
You know, the importance of having him when he contributes
as opposed to not having him is tough.
Having him on the ice when he's not contributing.
I know he contributes a lot.
I'm not crapping on Jarvis,
but he had a rough go of it towards
the end of the season in the playoffs.
Picked it up, being paired with Marty Party.
He's going to pick it up.
He's going to be good.
They moved Marty Party over to line one.
They moved him to three in the playoffs with Jordo and Ehlers.
So, you never know what's going to happen when Jarvis returns.
He's going to light up the world.
That was his practice.
Martinuk, Kokaniemi, and Jarvis together.
Martinuk moves back to the wing.
Unger Sorum moves to center.
One return can help several players settle into different roles.
There are practice combinations subject to final game decision.
There's all that involved,
as we knew with Svechnikov's injury last year.
but he wouldn't be taking up some power play too
if Rod wasn't really seriously considering it
uh Kokaniemi's shot volume has increased
dramatically Jarvis could give him another
finishing option and someone
who draws defensive action I'll watch whether the line sustains
possessions and creates chances um you can't really judge it
by goals the chances gotta come
for the goals to go in the net Jarvis does bury
it really well he's used to aho setting him up
but Jarvis does also create a lot of chances
his presence on the ice really draws a lot of
attention so that might help
a guy like Kokaniemi regain even more balance Jarvis practice with the
second power play unit like I've mentioned before he adds
a scoring option to another part of the
lineup you've got to watch some deployment
the workload you know he returns we're not going to
assume of immediate immediate full assignment
um all the minutes he's used to but just getting
him out there is a big difference Martinuk's practice uh moved back
to wing another you know
consequence of the reshuffle his pressure
and puck retrieval could complement Kokaniemi and Jarvis
um the fit you know it's great it's
not a guaranteed outcome it's something that she
needs to be examined but they're
the Carolina Hurricanes they can pretty much play wherever
they're put um Jarvis has been activated he has
been moved to full-time duty whether he plays
tonight or not is another story
um i'm telling you he's gonna play tonight um so when he doesn't
please don't crucify me but when he does i can come on here
and say god i'm the smartest guy in
the world um skyler i believe is there just for insurance
or whatever not sure what anyway they
did um so i'm really excited to see seth jarvis
on the uh ice tonight jarvis averaged 0.4 points
across eight previous edmonton meetings um below
his roughly 0.9 points per game last season
historical context yeah not a forecast
of what he will do um different season different
combinations different circumstances his return could help
the lineup even if he doesn't immediately
score i don't expect him to be the scorer
but if he scores the first goal of the game i will lose
my absolute mind bussy bussy would be in line
if carolina does continue its rotation they did have
a day off between vancouver
and edmonton um there was no confirmed starter bussy made more than 30
saves in the calgary loss it was a tough loss he didn't deserve
the loss but they took the loss
anyway calgary just came out ready to freaking rock kachekov is six
and zero after his win in
vancouver um there should
be a final announcement coming up relatively soon when it does i will
jump in and let you know carolina's current card
shows 22.7 percent power play 89.2 percent penalty
kill Jarvis is a broken power play two gives
that unit another potential option the discipline
matters against Edmonton you need to be disciplined against Edmonton
because we as we all know they're
going to make you pay puck drop
is tonight Rogers Place Edmonton Alberta Canada look on the map if
you're kind of confused as to where
that is but you should it's Edmonton um tonight 9 p.m eastern
time um you can watch on the Hurricanes Hockey Network
or Prime Video uh if you so care um you
know there's also the Hurricanes app to follow i'll
be jumping around on my X over there at
Canes Digest so go ahead do that um which factor
do you think decides it Jarvis is deepening the
scoring Carolina limiting McDavid special team swing
the result the roster changes could also
give something to watch in Chicago
this weekend i said it we're gonna talk about it Chicago Wolves
hockey baby gotta love our system um the Wolves
to host Milwaukee Saturday at Allstate Arena
starts at 8 p.m um you can stream it on AHL TV
on Flow Hockey i usually watch on Flow Hockey i
would love to go out and watch a Wolves game
if somebody in the Wolves office wants to you know
maybe head me out there that'd be great i would love
to watch Chicago Wolves hockey seen them
before i saw them play last season yeah you want
to go watch Chicago Wolves hockey um chicago is
two and four after sweeping out Iowa
um they won sunday's game three to two um Schwenko made 28
saves. Watch how the Wolves
adjust after Brendan Moore's recall
and Nadeau comes home.
Nadeau's availability and deployment
not 100%. I can't imagine
they're not going to play Bradley Nadeau Saturday
against
Milwaukee. They have a home-to-home
at Milwaukee Sunday. They'll be back in Milwaukee
with the Admirals. That should be
really, really interesting. Skyler
Brendan Moore was quoted. We had
confidence in our room even
after our 0-4 start. Two
wins give Chicago momentum
heading into the
Milwaukee matchup, especially with
Bradley Nadeau coming
back into the lineup.
They'll pick up the pace. That'd be great.
So that's Chicago, Milwaukee,
Saturday night, going
to be super duper exciting.
Super duper excited for Seth
Jarvis. I'm telling you, he's going to play tonight.
If he's not,
don't crucify me.
When you're right 99% of the time,
you've got to be wrong that 1%.
But I'm right, because I'm always right.
If anything else comes down, I'll be the first to let you know
as soon as the lineup maybe drops.
It usually drops around puck drop, which is 9 p.m. tonight.
So, yeah, if anything else comes down,
I'll be the first to let you know.
Until then, for Hurricanes Digest, I'm Jeff Testanaro.
Let's go, Canes.
Jarvis, come back, baby.
