James Kaufman, World News Report Today.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have, well,
a bunch of big events today on our hands.
We have the total solar eclipse.
It won't be able to be seen from everywhere,
but it will be able to be seen from New York, the Big Apple.
That'll be at 1:15 local time.
And, well, that's going to be here in just a few minutes central time.
It started in the polar region, and it's moving all the way down
to Morocco, and there'll be a total eclipse in the area throughout
this part, a partial eclipse or mostly eclipse through this part here,
and again, you'll be able to even see this in this area here that's in,
well, very light blue here.
So, it's going to cover Pennsylvania
and a bunch of the other states on the east coast,
but it's not going to be anywhere near a full eclipse.
It's also going to be visible over in Norway,
Sweden, and most of the rest of Western Europe.
Again, most visible just in a few minutes over
the Big Apple, New York City.
and then it's going to work its way down into Morocco
and Algeria a fairly long-term event
started about 10:35 and it'll end late this afternoon
so if you can get out and take a look
please get out and take a look it's not visible from Texas we
also have three meteor showers
happening all at the same time.
So when we go through the trail of a comet
and little grains of dust, usually very small,
they actually disintegrate in the atmosphere
and they look like falling stars.
First have the, well, the Perseid meteor shower
that's peaking tonight.
They're looking for clear skies
and up to 100 meteors or shooting stars, meteorites,
if they make them to the ground, every hour.
We have two other showers that are also active right now,
the Southern Delta Aquarids and the Alpha Capricornids.
So, really, really neat situation
to have three different meteor showers all happening at the same time.
The Perseid meteor shower, something special, it rains down in numerous
different colors based on what each granule or rock is made of.
So you can see the trail of the comet that busted up.
And again, tonight's the peak, peak.
So that was where the main part of the comet was.
And you can see the trail, well,
passes into the inner solar system and then way out.
And it pretty much, well, stays in the same place.
We just circle the sun every year and pass back through the tail.
Now, I did do a report on this before,
but the Perseid meteor shower is very interesting.
it glitters the sky with different color meteors all based
on what they're made of
can i get a blue if it's made out of mostly magnesium
or an orange if it's made out of sodium
a purple if it's made out of calcium yellow if it's made out of iron
and red if it's made out
of oxygen or nitrogen if it's white it's probably
a combination of several elements the best time
going to be tonight to watch this after midnight until about 4 30 a.m
and well if you can get away
from the urban situation
and the urban lighting that's a huge plus about a hundred again an hour
from just this meteor shower not to mention
the two others simultaneously happening all right now
we have our moon coming around
and we're getting a pretty decent lineup here over the next day or
two with the sun and Jupiter.
Jupiter has the biggest mass in our solar system. And we also
have a lineup here with Uranus, Mars, Mercury, and the sun.
We are geoconnected or electromagnetically
connected to Saturn and Neptune in the meantime,
so this should be an interesting couple of
days, 12th and the 13th are really the best times,
maybe through the 14th, for there to
probably be some earthquake activity,
and probably increased volcanic activity as well
here on Earth, so with that said,
we have a lot going on in the stars tonight, the first,
well, ongoing right now during the day, have a solar eclipse.
We have three meteor showers,
the Perseids actually peaking tonight on the 12th,
and we also have, well, a lot of planets lining up in our system.
So keep eyes to the skies,
and it should be an interesting day and evening.
God bless you guys. Enjoy the show.
please share and give us a thumbs up
