It was here in the middle
of the countryside around 50 kilometers from Limoges
that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday morning.
His father described the scene.
They kicked the door in even
though it was open this morning at six o'clock.
That was it. We don't know anything else.
This photo shows the suspect.
He is 34 and from Creuse, a department in central western France.
A known far-left activist,
he was on a police watchlist known as Fichier S, which tracks
individuals who may pose a threat to national security.
Investigators believe they have identified him
in several videos from the 17th of October,
including in this one, where he can be seen dressed in black
and crouching on the edge
of the window, before throwing a burning torch inside
and setting the building alight.
Last April, he appeared at the Limoges courthouse, dressed here in red.
He was appealing his sentence of one year
in prison without parole for setting fire
to vehicles and cell towers.
But according to his best friend,
he's been unfairly targeted for the Limoges Town Hall
attack.
Everyone is looking for a scapegoat.
All of France is wondering what happened
and why or how it could have happened.
It's obvious the blame is going to be pinned
on the first guy who fits the bill.
It is understood the suspect has
so far refused to cooperate with police.
Enquiries are ongoing, with other suspects also being investigated.
