Then check out the full breakdown here on my website:
This video challenges the notion that a gym membership is mandatory for fitness. The speaker emphasizes that there are no universal rules in fitness and that strength, muscle, and endurance can be built through various methods, including calisthenics, as long as the fundamental biological requirements for growth are met.
Now, we've all heard the videos, we've all seen the memes,
we've seen the people telling you to go to the ******* gym.
Go to the ******* gym.
And I am in no way, shape, or form against the gym.
I am not anti-gym. I train in the gym.
I just don't do it every day.
I don't spend hours in the gym.
I don't do only weightlifting exercises.
And no, you do not need to go to the gym.
You don't need it.
There are no rules in fitness.
there are many ways to build your body to build
your physique to build strength to build endurance
to do all of these things
and it is not only done in a one-size-fits-all way so in this video i'm
just going to give you guys some tips and tricks
and tell you about how you can do it and the main
things you should be focusing on if you want
to level up your fitness journey and get into
amazing shape and how you can do it without ever stepping foot
into a gym if that's something that
that you want. Now, fitness comes in many shapes and sizes and forms.
So ultimately, at the end of
the day, what is fitness?
Fitness or exercise or working out training is basically taking some
form of action that is outside of your normal,
you know, actions that you take throughout the day. So
for example, we walk a lot. We walk a lot on our feet.
So walking, probably not considered to be
a good form of exercise or workout for people
because we do it all the time. Our legs are
already conditioned and used to it.
So you need to push your legs beyond that limit, either by
adding weight to the walk, adding speed to the walk,
adding running to it, doing some form of
exercise that goes beyond the norm.
So normally we're already upright. So our core is already
engaged and working. It is what holds your body up.
However, it is not considered to be a core
exercise to just exist. So if we want to work the core,
we want to work the lower back. That's where
we add some weight to our frame.
We do focused exercises to build those muscles. So ultimately,
that is what fitness and exercise is.
Now, let's dispel a few myths. People think that you need
weights or you need some external factor in order to build muscle,
in order to stimulate muscle
growth. This is not true.
The truth actually is that your muscles cannot distinguish between an
external force or an internal force being exerted upon it.
What does that mean? That means whether
you pick up a dumbbell or a barbell or you do a pull-up
or a muscle-up or a chin-up, your muscles
are not going to know the difference between what
is causing them to work and contract and stretch
in order to perform the movement and the exercise.
So no, you do not need weights. However, weights
do help in progressing when you start training.
So once you hit a certain level, sometimes
adding weight is a great way to hit progressive overload.
How do we build muscle and how do you
get stronger? And if you don't need the gym
or you don't need to train a certain way,
what specifically do your muscles need in order to grow?
So it is very, very simple. Your muscles
need three things you need stimulus
so stimulus is what we were talking about earlier where you
are putting your muscles in some form
of discomfort stimulating them there is a contraction of the
muscle there is a stretch of the muscle in order
to perform the movement under mechanical tension
so number one that is what you want you need
stimulus number two you need protein so you
have to get enough protein in your diet you need more protein
in order to build muscle so
One, stimulus, two, protein intake, and three, rest and recovery.
Rest and recovery is basically where your muscles will be growing.
So you're going to damage the muscles.
You're going to build, you know, in the exercise,
you're going to put that muscles under pressure,
under some kind of strain.
They need time to rest and recover.
Typically, 48 to 36 hours is ideal
for your muscles to recover after a solid workout.
So three things to build muscle.
It's that simple. Stimulus, rest and recovery, protein intake.
If you can do those three,
you can build muscle. Taking into consideration
the three things we just talked about,
stimulus, the protein intake, the recovery periods,
the rest, that means that it doesn't
matter how you choose to train, you can still build strength,
endurance, and all these different
things and build your body up how you want
to without having this one size fits all mentality.
So if you don't feel like going to a gym
and lifting a bunch of heavy weight and doing
resistance training with weights,
you can do it at home doing calisthenics.
It will achieve very similar results.
CrossFit, if you want to be a runner,
you can still build your body up in different
ways and still achieve amazing results.
So there are no rules when it comes to fitness.
You just got to find what works for you,
what you enjoy, what will hit that stimulus that
your muscles need in order to grow and build.
So as long as you are getting that stimulus,
it doesn't really matter how.
Now, another thing, and this is where a lot
of people get it wrong, is they mess up with
overload.
What is overload?
Progressive overload is basically increasing
the difficulty of the exercise as you become
stronger.
If you never increase the difficulty,
then you will never continue to grow.
Eventually, you will flatline and plateau.
What does that mean?
that means you have to constantly keep leveling up your workout game.
So let's just make a quick
example. If you're able to do 20 push-ups
and it is difficult for you now, and let's say in a month,
20 push-ups becomes easy.
You know you can easily do 30, 40, 50 push-ups. If you continue to just
do 20, your muscles will have no reason to grow
because now they are not being put under that
strain we were talking about. This is the new norm.
So you have to get out of that comfort zone
and push your muscles out of their comfort zone
in order to create that stimulus we were talking
about. So progressive overload is key.
And whether that just be increasing reps, increasing weight,
increasing the difficulty of the exercise,
it has to happen in order for growth to continue.
And last but not least,
let's talk a little bit about fat loss and fitness. So we mentioned
protein intake muscle stimulus
and the rest in recovery those are the three things you need to
build muscle now what do you need to lose fat
in order to lose body fat you have to be in a calorie
deficit which means you need
to be burning more calories than the calories you consume
this missing portion your body is going to go
to your fat stores for that energy now here's an
interesting fact and this is one most people get wrong
and don't know about you can build muscle
and lose body fat at the same time.
So if someone ever told you that you have to cut first,
you shouldn't be working out
while you're trying to lose body fat,
that is absolute bullshit.
Fat loss and muscle building
are two completely different processes within your body
and they do not rely or interfere with one another.
So you do not need calories per se
or a calorie surplus in order to build muscle.
All you need is ample amount of protein
and you can get enough protein
in order for your body to use it to rebuild muscle
while still being in a calorie deficit
and do both at the same time. It's literally that simple.
So when someone tells you that
you can't do both build muscle and lose fat at the same time,
they don't know what they're
talking about. Don't listen to them.
You can absolutely do it. And one of my clients right
now, Matt, he is actually doing exactly that.
We have him on a calorie deficit, about 500 calories
um that he's eating less per day
so the body fat is slowly dropping and we are hitting the workouts
hard we are building his body up
and he is seeing he we have a body analyzer that he is using
and we can see that the body fat is going down
while the muscle is slowly going up that is what
i'm talking about it is absolutely possible
so anyone who tells you it's not, it's full of ----
And that pretty much wraps up this video.
So if someone told you that you need to go to the gym
or you should be doing CrossFit or you should be doing cardio
or whatever, whatever, don't listen
to that ----. There are no rules in this game.
You can do it the way that it works for you. And that
is exactly what I do with the people that I coach
