Look, if you've got a friend, a mom, an auntie, a sister,
you want to listen to this because if you're a woman
and an entrepreneur who wants to explore new ways to grow business,
this is a room that you'll want to be in.
The Hustle is hosting a summit this weekend
with the Detroit Historical Society.
So joining me now is Senior Program
Manager Tiffany DeZort and Lataria Seen.
Did I say that right? Lataria?
Yeah.
Okay.
We have Lataria and we have Tiffany.
So, Lataria owns So Modest Studio,
and we have a very nice billboard up here,
so you'll be able to see it throughout the interview.
There you go.
We've got a close-up for you, just so you know.
Ladies, how are we this afternoon?
Wonderful.
Thank you for having us.
It's great to have you, have your energy
in here in this room, so we appreciate it.
Lataria, I want to start with you.
So, you said you've been an entrepreneur for about seven years?
Yes, seven years.
How did you get started?
I've always had this love and passion for design
but there was a moment where I realized just how
shifting how transformational fashion can
be and I really just wanted to be able to empower women
to make things that fit their body fit their style
and truly tailor it to every aspect of
their identity and so initially we started out as a ready to wear brand
and that grew into our
studio space and and to date we've had over 1100 students we've
been featured in over 160 different
publications and international magazines including
like CNN Arabia we've um been able to see like one
of the things i think is so incredible is like
in every space of design in Detroit you see my
students like Michigan Fashion Week oh Detroit
um month of design same thing i'm going like oh
she was my student oh she was you gotta
be very proud very proud it's like uh just to be able to
touch people and empower them to truly fulfill their vision right
so we get some students that
are like i want to go into design um and then some
are just literally hobbyists looking for
interesting interesting thing to do to be able
to focus on themselves to be able to say
i'm gonna turn off my phone ignore the kids for a couple hours
and just like fully be enthralled
in that and it's it's something it's
so incredibly powerful to be able to fit yourself your identity
your style I remember
when um it was like a full circle moment for me I was in undergrad like
sophomore year and we were on break
and so um there was this gym that was having like this
little free trial right and we and we went
and we were like oh we're gonna do the free membership
and so we do a tour and everything
and at the end they do like this body measurements right and so
he takes the first measurement
and i noticed that like the energy was shifting right but i didn't
understand why he takes the first measurement he
was like oh yeah and i'm like okay cool
right he goes to the waist and there was like a sternness
and the way he said it and i was like
okay this is weird and then he takes
my hip measurement i don't remember what my hips were
but let's say 54 right he goes 54
and i was like oh this is the part where i'm supposed to break
down supposed to be so aware of myself my body
and my numbers that i'm like i'll sign anything
i'll make this huge financial commitment based on emotion like
and and so we we have this space to
really decompress all of the pressures in the industry
that teaches you you're not good enough
you're not pretty enough and it's like let's
completely transform the way that we look at
fashion it's not about you're not worthy until you have
my products it's truly manifesting what's
inside and bringing it out.
Let people know where they can find you real quick.
So we have to, look.
Let's see where she's a hustle honoree.
You'll see why.
Your story is very powerful.
Thank you.
And I appreciate that.
And I hope a lot of women are able to watch
this and feel something and they can come
see you.
Yeah.
It's this weekend.
Tiffany, it's this weekend?
Oh, yes.
So Hustle Hers, yes.
Yes.
So Hustle Hers is a resource summit.
It's part of a special project
at the Detroit Historical Museum called The Hustle where
we honor entrepreneurs of color
throughout the city. And Lataria
is actually one of our honorees. And as you can
see from her story, this is why she's
one of the 35 folks we're honoring.
But this weekend's summit,
Hustle Hers, is really for women
entrepreneurs, non-binary
entrepreneurs in the city to come out,
get resources. There'll be folks like
Michigan Women Forward there,
Motor City Match. We'll have a
Zen Zone. Come get massages.
Get coaching. The whole nine. And it's
free. So please come.
Lataria will actually be one of our coaches.
Just a free coaching.
There you go.
They're giving me the rap here.
So, ladies, I do appreciate it.
We got to continue this conversation somehow.
But I know we are on one of those strict times.
So, you heard it there.
We're going to have this on our website as well, Fox2Detroit.com.
And come out this Thursday or this Saturday from 9 to 3.
9 to 3.
There you go.
Chris, if you want, I'll come to it.
We'll be right back.
