San Jose community garden faces possible eviction

A longtime community garden is launching an emergency fundraising campaign as it faces what they're calling a sudden eviction. Plant and Soul California is a native plant garden that provides education programs to San Jose residents. Now, the garden has been located on Race Street for 27 years. Well, now they're trying to raise nearly $3 million to fund their relocation or for a counteroffer after a recent real estate sale prompted their landlord to order an eviction. Now, if they can't come up with the money, they say they could be evicted as early as Tuesday. We're unique in the fact that we're on privately owned land and we want to be a community land trust and and steward this land as a nonprofit in perpetuity so that it can stay the heart of this neighborhood urban in San Jose and to show people what's possible when we care for the pollinators and we care for the plants and we care for each other. We did reach out to the property's landlord for comment and are still waiting to hear back.
