Abbott hosts Texas vs Florida tailgate

Tonight, Governor Greg Abbott hosted a special tailgate at the governor's mansion ahead of tomorrow's big game. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is in town to join him as the Longhorns get ready to take on the Gators. The two governors are celebrating UT's upcoming football matchup along with university leaders and athletic directors. The event brings out-of-state guests and local leaders together for a traditional tailgate before kickoff at DKR. It's one of several celebrations happening around Austin this weekend as fans arrive for another SEC showdown. I, too, want to thank, listen, everybody who put on this incredible event, the creative people who work for the University of Texas, creating the swamp right over here for people from Florida. No, you have your own zone over here in the governor's mansion. On this side over here, you'll find food and beverages that you're very used to over in the swamp. And there may be a gator or two over there to greet you when you get there. when you think about Texas and Florida, these are the two premier public universities in the entire country. And once again, we gather here on the steps of the Governor's Mansion in Texas for a tailgate, continuing our tradition of hosting events like this before a game where we gather not just among Longhorns, but also among fans and supporters of our opponent, people from Florida, people from Texas who support Florida, but we come in celebration of one big party celebrating the great way our universities run each other. Texas and Florida are leading America in educating the students of the future, and no two universities do it better than Texas and Florida. But tonight, I really am proud to be joined with the governor I've had the opportunity to work with for eight years now. Done a tremendous job, not just for his state, but also for the United States of America. And he does a fabulous job of repping his teams, whether it be Florida, Miami, Florida State. But tomorrow, candidly, it doesn't matter because we all know what's going to happen. Don't we? Texas Longhorns are going to bring home a victory tomorrow. And I'm willing to put my food where my mouth is because I have made a bet with Governor DeSantis. I want to show you three items here, I bet, all from Texas. One is the best ice cream in the entire world, Blue Bell ice cream. In addition to that, we've got Texas-made Garrison Brothers bourbon. Keep that away from Kevin Eltife. And, of course, our own Dr. Pepper. So I'm asking Vanna White here to take all that right back into the kitchen where it's going to stay because Texas is going to win tomorrow, and I will not have to pay up that bet. Thank you all. Hook 'em horns. That game starts early tomorrow, 11 a.m. from DKR.
