2026 Week 8: Cedar Park vs Vandegrift

It's week eight of Fox 7 Friday football finally this season. Starting to feel like fall with cool and windy conditions for some key matchups across the area like Dripping Springs hosting Bowie, Georgetown with a big home game against district frontrunner Weiss, and Hendrickson hosting a state-ranked opponent. But we start things off with Fox 7 Austin's Cliff Thornton, who joins us live from Monroe Stadium at Vandegrift High School as the Vipers are hosting longtime rival Cedar Park. What do you have for us, Cliff? Yeah, John, these two have still played each other over the last decade or so, despite the fact that Cedar Park had been a 5A school and Vandergrift, rather, was a 6A school. But now that they're both 6A again, they're both district mates again, and not only that, these two could very well be playing for a district championship tonight. Vandergrift and Cedar Park, the only two remaining unbeaten in District 26 6A play. T-Wolves are 7-0 overall. Vandergrift lost a couple of games in non-district play. First drive of the game ends for Vandergrift with a Preston James III 15-yard touchdown run. The Vipers are up 7-0. Later in the first quarter, Cedar Park answers. That wind is behind them, and David Cooper, the quarterback, takes advantage. 26 yards to Braden Johns. That would tie the score at 7. Second quarter, T-Wolves driving again. This is the fourth and long in the red zone. Cooper getting it done with his legs, as he did last week in a big comeback over Hutto. He ran a lot in the second half then, running here to get the first down. That would lead to Jack Girardo's second field goal of the half. Cedar Park led this one 13-10 at halftime. And check your final. Cedar Park back in 6A and back on top of their district, their new district, 23-10. T-Wolves get a big win here at Monroe Stadium over rival Vandergrift. Vandergrift, it is Vandergrift's third loss of the season.
