A young boy in critical condition tonight after
Queen Creek police say he was run over by his
family's SUV in the driveway.
It happened earlier this morning in a neighborhood near Ocotillo and
Signal Butte Roads. Megan Spector has the latest from Queen Creek.
Police say what started as a
normal morning for a Queen Creek family quickly turned
into a tragedy after their four-year-old
boy was hit by a car.
This is an absolutely tragic situation, an accident that occurred
where it's going to have a lot of impact on the family,
obviously, and the community.
Just before 8 this morning,
first responders were called to the home on Escalante Road.
Police say the family was getting ready to leave in their SUV
when their 4-year-old boy was hit.
Officers arrived very rapidly,
provided CPR along with the fire department.
The child was rushed to the hospital
and then airlifted to another hospital, still in critical condition.
Police are not sharing details about
who was behind the wheel or how the boy was hit,
but the chief confirmed it's being investigated as a tragic accident.
We've already ruled out any form
of criminal impairment or anything else.
Investigators continued to work for hours before
the family's SUV was towed away.
Neighbors we spoke with off camera say they're praying for the family,
while the police chief is thanking those who rushed to help.
Thank you for the community members that jumped into action,
for my brave officers that got here and did what they could do.
The fire department and the EMS personnel, hospital personnel
that were all involved in this, trying to give this young man
the care that's necessary.
Our hearts are with the family.
This remains an ongoing investigation.
As we learn more, we'll keep you updated.
