Do you realize there are people in this room
that have never been lost?
Do you understand that?
That have never been in their car
and said, where are we?
Ever.
Because they're like, we're right here.
How do we get home?
I type home.
Oh, yeah, you may know him from Last Comic Standing
or from his ugly and angry Netflix special.
Yes, comedian Chris Porter is here ahead of his shows
tonight and tomorrow at the Milwaukee Improv.
seeing you on stage and talking
to you here it's two different people you are so calm in person
but boy you get it out on stage oh yeah i would lose
my mind if i was like that all the time
if i was just that's me in the car yeah i'm sure
that's me in traffic yeah but yeah no if if i sat
here and was just like what is going on i think uh it'd
be more of a wrestling vibe right yeah
and you have a vibe up
on stage too there's some self-deprecating humor involved yeah and
In your stand-up, there's also some jabs at society.
So I guess, which one's easier?
What do you say?
They're both pretty easy targets,
especially when I'm looking in the mirror.
Okay.
Yeah, I try to just turn it towards me.
You seem to make a lot less headlines
when you aren't making fun of others.
I don't know if you've been keeping track of news stories.
Yeah, you've got to watch what you say.
So, no, I find it's better just to – everyone has a much better time
When you're the butt of the joke, that's for sure.
All right, and you get this gig in Milwaukee,
and it turns out to be right when the Brewers are at their hottest
and most important.
So what happened last night?
I was the biggest Brewers fan in the city because I was like,
please don't mess with my Friday shows.
Yeah, no, it was a lot of fun to watch, and I called it.
I ran an ad where I was like, odds are you sweep on Thursday.
So you can come out on Friday.
And so you're welcome.
Okay, you want to make a call right now?
So we'll say Chris Porter said it's going to happen.
This is what's going to happen.
Oh, yeah.
I don't even know who you're going to play, but I got Brewers in five.
There you go.
We'll take that for sure.
Go to his show just for that.
I mean, are you kidding me?
I'm also a sports handicapper.
I don't know if you guys know this.
You're taking bets right now.
Bookie as well?
Yeah, well, the feds might be watching.
But it's fun to talk to a comedian
because you everybody has a different way with humor.
I think sometimes when we make fun of ourselves,
like you said earlier, that's an easy one.
And you're doing it right now. Do you do you make bad mistakes?
I mean, horrible decisions yet as an adult, as much as you did maybe
when you were in college or shortly after first becoming a comedian.
I mean, I hope not. But if you ask my mom,
I think her answer might be different.
yeah uh but yeah I you know I've hoped to learn from my mistakes uh
but yeah the ones that the
ones that I make in in my adult life you're definitely going
to hear about yeah yeah I love
that those are those are the best ones yeah I watched
your first special and then your latest
special and I cannot imagine having to come up
with that much material to be able to do that
in front of a big crowd for that long how long does it take
to come up with that type of show
I mean, to put up a full hour is about 18 months to two years.
Wow.
Yeah, so it's one of those things where
as soon as you get done recording a special,
you have like, it's almost like winning the Super Bowl kind of,
where you're like, oh, well, that was great.
We did it.
Now we have to start all over and do it again.
And that's the next day you're like, I'm not funny anymore.
This is never going to work.
But highly recommended.
Go on YouTube.
You'll see some of Chris's specials.
So good.
Really impressive.
Thank you.
Yeah, the new one's called Middle Rage,
and I took middle age and put an R in front of it.
And so it's a lot of stories about just kind of realizing that I'm old.
Yeah.
The new tour, the tour you're on, obviously at Milwaukee Improv,
too, that is the Relentless tour.
Yes.
So how relentless are you?
Well, funny enough, I was like, oh,
I'm calling this because I'm relentless.
I'm never going to stop.
And then I got the schedule.
I'm like, oh, no, the schedule's relentless.
and I'm never going to have a weekend off
and I'm never going to meet anyone
and so it kind of
took on its own thing but yeah
initially I'm relentless
I'm coming out and I'm not
going to stop until the hour
is done. And again you on stage
I'd like a blood pressure cuff
on you to watch what happens
because I'm imagining that
you get Riley worked up
and then you go off stage and you're like
oh okay there we go
Oh, yeah, no, it's a definite thing where I just shut down
and I just melt into the couch.
Yeah.
I have to, I'm envisioning that now.
So you're getting up there to blood pressures.
And then how do you bring yourself down after a show?
You probably have fans that want to meet you.
Yeah, that's the weird.
Do they buy you drinks?
You're in Milwaukee.
Yeah, tequila definitely helps.
Okay.
That's for sure.
But, yeah, it is a weird section where you've
been staring at all these people
And now now you have to shake hands with them.
But, you know, it's not I'm not going
to complain about eight minutes where people tell me how great I am.
That is true, too.
So obviously you did last night's show.
You have four more coming up here.
Tickets still available for that one.
Yeah.
Most four, I should say.
Milwaukee improv something dot com.
There you go.
Are we at that place in life where we can just say Milwaukee Improv
to the phone and then we can get the information?
Like where?
Well, we don't need to know all the specifics.
You don't need the dots. It's elderly parents who do it.
Milwaukee Improv. Chris Porter.
And you see it for the driving, too. The same thing.
Just please, when you do speak Milwaukee Improv into the phone,
make sure you go to the Milwaukee Improv site.
If you're spending $200 to see Chris Porter,
you're on the wrong website. There you go.
Well, congratulations, and what a great career you've put together,
and I just am impressed with how much material you've come up with
and how relatable and good it is.
Well, I appreciate you guys having me.
This has been a lot of fun.
Our pleasure.
Thanks, Chris.
Appreciate your time, and I really like those kicks, too.
I saw them on the screen.
Those fours are looking good.
If you know, you know.
Athletes need to stay loose, and so do fans.
Seven innings stretches, well, we got them for you at home, maybe.
We're going to teach you a few new moves coming up next.
