Back here at home, parents in Pilot Point are asking
for more answers after the school district put its superintendent
and police chief on leave but did not specify why.
Pilot Point is in northern Denton County.
The district has announced the people filling in but has still
not explained what led to the staff suspensions.
As far as David Centendri went to Pilot Point to try and find out,
David, what did you learn?
Okay, see, the school district has continued to update
its messaging on its Facebook page throughout the day.
Three different updates, but it's really only leading
to more questions for people in the community.
Your reaction to these Facebook posts,
the messages from the school board?
Well, I think, personally, they're a little shocking and concerning.
A series of Pilot Point ISD social media posts Thursday reveal
its superintendent and police chief are suspended.
The school district, however, will not answer why.
It did nothing but raise questions and concerns.
Mary Willard lives in Pilot Point.
She has several children who used to attend the district.
We contacted her after seeing her comment
on the district's Facebook page.
We have a right to know.
I think that in the community we didn't even know what's going on,
so for them to release a statement without any context
or any information further than what they stated
was very concerning and just left us all with questions.
And I really don't think any of the questions still have been answered.
The school board's first announcement says police chief Eric Dortch
and superintendent Dr. Shannon Fuller were placed
on leave out of an abundance of caution after a complaint.
The board hired an attorney to conduct
an independent third-party investigation.
Five hours later, a second statement says
the superintendent first placed the police chief on leave.
Tuesday, then the police chief made a complaint,
and the district placed the superintendent on leave.
Later, a third statement adds,
the investigation does not involve
allegations involving the safety of children.
Still, the district is not saying what the complaint is.
Do we think this is something major
or is this just really poor messaging?
I think it could be a mixture of both.
Community members might appreciate
the district posting announcements online.
But you're not being transparent if you're not giving us any context.
I reached out to every single school
board member earlier today via email,
but at this point in time have not heard back.
Casey, Heather.
wait and see what happens.
David Centendri, thanks so much.
