Good evening and welcome to these six o'clock news.
I'm Natasha Verma and we begin with
breaking news. An elementary school shooting in Bend, Oregon.
Let's get right to Fox High's
Teresa Prillo in the newsroom with the latest.
Teresa. Yeah, Natasha, this is a breaking story,
but reports out of Bend,
Oregon say at least two people are injured and the suspected school
shooter is dead. Now, here is a look
at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon,
about four hours outside of Portland.
The shooting took place around the school. It's
unclear if it took place inside of the school
or on the school property. Those are details that we
don't have at this time. However,
it is believed that children are among the injured. As a matter
of fact, officials on scene a short time ago said,
quote, we don't have a number at this point.
We know children are among the victims.
Now, the first reports of a shooting emerged at 1259
Pacific time. Officers were on scene within two to three minutes
and the shooter was shot and
killed a short time later unclear if he was killed by police
or if he was shot by a bystander. There
are also reports from police that there were shots fired
into a car on the outside of the school.
It is unclear what occurred prior to that,
if potentially those children that are victims
were shot prior to that shooting that was involved with the car.
Again, those are the
details that we're waiting to hear.
We also don't know if this particular elementary school had any
sort of security and if that security was armed.
Now, back here to our newsroom, we are at the very
beginning of this developing situation.
Still a lot that we don't know at this time, but we are
looking to get all of those details.
They will likely become available in short order. We'll
stay on it as well. Natasha, I
also want to mention to you from the Associated Press, they are saying
that they are in the process right now of going room to room
and evacuating each of the people
who are in the school. They're saying this is never
the kind of thing that we want to see
happened in Bend. The communications manager
for the Bend Police Department saying it is
just devastating. That's the latest
from our newsroom right now. We'll continue to stay on
top of this. Back to you. And at an elementary school, it is so sad.
All right, Teresa, thank you.
