Le Sculture di David a Firenze tra Storia e Simbolo

March 31, 2023
David—the biblical hero, the young King of Judah and Israel who defeated the giant Goliath—is an iconic figure representing good battling evil. Over the centuries, he has fascinated many artists, becoming the subject of numerous sculptures, particularly during the Renaissance and beyond. *The Sculptures of David in Florence: History and Symbolism* is a video production created by some of Florence’s most prominent cultural institutions to showcase and explore the various depictions of David found throughout the Tuscan capital. The project was conceived during the pandemic lockdown as a way to maintain and foster dialogue between museums and cultural organizations, establishing a productive collaboration among key local institutions. *The Sculptures of David in Florence: History and Symbolism* originated from an idea by Cecilie Hollberg, Director of the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze, and Paola d’Agostino, Director of the Bargello Museums. It was developed in collaboration with Claudio Rocca, Director of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, and involved the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Florence as well as the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore.
