AI GeneratedThe New York Yankees are reportedly interested in second baseman Xavier Edwards from the Miami Marlins to improve their on-base percentage and lineup depth. The discussion explores potential trade packages involving Anthony Volpe and Elmer Rodriguez, as well as other targets like Teruki Saito and Sam Antonaki to bolster the roster.
Well, here we go.
We got some little trade news for the Yankees.
First of the offseason.
Let me know what you guys think down in the comments.

It's free.
If you love the Yankees, this is the place to be.
Anyway, according to Joel Sherman,
the Yankees really like second baseman Xavier Edwards.
Now, Xavier Edwards last year for Miami hit 280,
six home runs, 730 OPS,
108 OPS plus. Still has years of control, as you can see here.
It's free agent year, 2030.
Here's what I love about Xavier. Doesn't strike out much.
He had like 82, 83 strikeouts last year
in like 140 games, 518 at-bats.
Look at that on-base percentage, 360. Joe Girardi mentioned
it in an interview with Joel Sherman and John Heyman.
If Jazz got on base, 35% of the time,
If his on-base percentage was .350,
that would help elevate this Yankee lineup so much.
Xavier Edwards, that's him.
He gets on base 36% of the time.
That's basically his career average.
I think he's a perfect fit for this Yankee lineup.
Switch hitter, I think he's a perfect fit.
.280, he puts the ball in play.
Does he have a lot of power?
No, but his job is to get on base, put the bat in the ball.
The Yankees need more pesky players like that.
That's what you need.
And he has the ability to steal bases.
He got 21 of them last year.
I think this is perfect for the Yankees.
Perfect.
If you want to look at Xavier's other numbers,
let's look at his overview.
2025, Xavier hit 283.
70 games in 24, he hit 328.
But my point is, this wasn't just some breakout year he had last year.
He had a very similar year in 2023.
His OPS, 695.
but guys his batting average strikeouts
and his on base percentage is great that's what the yankees
need now what would miami trade what would they want
in a trade rather for xavier edwards well
I've seen some mock trades
and one includes Anthony Volpe to Miami now Volpe has one less
year of control than Xavier as we can see here
Volpe after when he came back from injury had a
poor poor season was having a poor year they send him down hits
the heck out of the ball they bring
him back up and in my opinion he looked like he was a different player
and improved one which
makes me excited for him for this season
if the Yankees rolled into 2027 with Anthony Volpe as
their second baseman I wouldn't
be too upset about it he won me over Anthony Volpe he did
but would the Marlins want him in a trade
for Xavier Edwards now you obviously it can't just
be Anthony Volpe it's got to be somebody else
so in this trade they also had Elmer Rodriguez
going back to Miami now Rodriguez this season
in the major leagues made six starts it was a little
rough 1.58 WHIP 5.4 ERA in the minor leagues
and 21 starts at a 2.45 ERA almost just strike out
per inning a 1.31 WHIP still only 23 years old he's
a pitcher he's a starting pitcher he's got
a lot of value still he's got a lot
of value i think miami would at least think about it if you
offered Elmer Rodriguez and Anthony Volpe
because elmer's in that deal then you bring in a replacement
immediately for Xavier Edwards i honestly think
Miami does it, I think they do, maybe I'm over
valuing Elmer here, but I think Miami does it now
as I said, I think Xavier fits here, he makes a ton
of sense, but the Yankees can't stop there, obviously go out
and get a third baseman, go out
to get a third baseman who could get
on base, Teruki Saito, go get him, I made a video talking
about top five free agent targets
who the Yankees should target, he was on there, he's a guy who
constantly swings at pitches in the zone
and and he's, I know his chase rate is high and he strikes
out a lot, like I get it, but I like
his ceiling, I think he's another guy that would be a welcomed
addition to this Yankee lineup, I think he would
do well here, I really do, go get him for third base
if you can, then imagine adding him
then adding Xavier Edwards, I would love, I would love that
that would be, that would look like
a a different lineup, yes Teruki does strike out, no doubt but
he's got a load of power, back-to-back years
with basically over, I mean almost 1.000 OPS and
back-to-back seasons, I know it's Japan
but you saw the success Murakami had, Okamoto, you you you saw
that, I think he could have the same success
or similar, he's a left-handed bat, he swing his swing
is just looks so easy for him, I like him, I if you if you could add him
and Xavier Edwards that would
be a huge huge huge huge offseason for the Yankees huge huge
for this lineup it changes things it
really does it changes things now i i wonder
this we're talking about trades i think this is
important to talk about i like Xavier Edwards
a lot what about Luis Garcia i'm seeing some trade
talk around him that the Yankees could use him
in a trade for something that they need i liked
Garcia i did i like him i'd rather the Yankees keep him
to be honest with you the Yankee fan
base is like split on the guy i think he's
a good ball player i wonder what the Yankees would use
why the Yankees or or what the Yankees would go out
and get in a trade that would include Garcia
wonder if it's a reliever maybe a second baseman
Joel Sherman mentioned that if the Yankees do not
use Garcia in a trade that they will ask him
to work on his old defensive second base skills in
the offseason so he could provide some starts
for the Yankees against tough righties during the
season maybe uh you of course you want
that as an option i like Garcia a lot i i hope it works out
here. I really do.
Sam Antonaki, people talk about him because he's kind of blocked by
my draw. Let's go check out Sam's numbers. Sam
this season, though, hit .277, eight home runs,
another high on base guy, .370 on base percentage,
766 OPS, lots of major league control,
meaning it's only a rookie this past season.
Young, 23 years old. I wonder what it would
take to get him. Elmer Rodriguez, once again you would have
to put him in there in that deal. Sam
plays second base, left field, he's
a left-handed bat. I mean imagine if the Yankees could get him
I like that a lot. Oh, he's one of my targets, baby, he's one
of my targets. I like this a lot, I love
it. You just don't think of that, you don't think
that the White Sox are going to trade a guy
like Sam, so that doesn't go through your head
because he's only 23 years old, he's a good
baseball player, but if he's being blocked, I mean he had 480
at bats this year, it's a lot of that
bats he contributed. Him and Xavier Edwards have
like similar numbers, but guys listen, let me know
what you think down in the comments, thank you guys
so so much for watching, I'll see you next time
take care
