Russia has concentrated four armies on a relatively narrow front line of just 50 kilometers to advance on the city of Dobropillia in the Donetsk region. Right now, the largest battle of the Russian-Ukrainian war is unfolding in Donbas, military analyst Clément Molin wrote about this on his blog on the social media site X.

According to him, the scale of the fighting for Dobropillia has recently escalated significantly. Russian troops are sending hundreds of troops into the assault every day, and these hundreds are being killed day after day. Infantry attacks are accompanied by a large number of drones and guided bombs.

"The scale of the battle for Dobropillia had rarely been seen before," Molen notes. The expert says Russia is seeking to use this route to further advance toward Kramatorsk, one of the key cities in Donbass that remains under Ukrainian control.

According to Molen's estimates, in recent weeks Russian units have been able to advance south of Dobropillia and gain a foothold there, north and west of the Ukrainian defensive line.

At the same time, in the northern sector, the Russian army was unable to make significant progress, despite numerous attempts to penetrate Ukrainian positions.

Molen claims that Ukrainian forces carried out counterattacks there and were able to clear some areas that Russian troops had previously penetrated.

According to the analyst, while the situation in the Druzhkovka area has stabilized, it is the Dobropillya area that has become the main front line, where the Russians are exerting the greatest efforts. In another post , Molen also analyzes the strategic situation on the front, which is gradually turning against the aggressor.

He noted that Russia has held the strategic offensive initiative since October 2023 and has been steadily advancing ever since, despite suffering enormous losses. However, this trend has now begun to reverse, the analyst writes.

"This doesn't mean they've been stopped: they continue to advance at a slower pace, especially in Donbas, but this advance is offset by territory lost to Ukraine," Molen writes, citing statistics on Russian territorial gains and losses over the past three years.

He emphasizes that Russia "is no longer advancing as it used to." As reported, the Defense Forces regained control near Kalynove, near Kupyansk , advancing in the "gray zone" closer to the Oskol River. At the same time, analysts are reporting a Russian offensive near Vasylivka and Shevchenko, located south of Dobropillia. There, the enemy is attempting to advance toward a key defensive center of the Ukrainian forces.
